These places are open to all and have been in plain sight on maps for generations now. “Gatekeeping” is a politically volatile misnomer about not posting locations online. Public lands don’t have the infrastructure to handle mass numbers of people, and every post online about these places is an advertisement that drive mass numbers of people to a place. You appear to think it’s virtuous to broadcast locations like this, but gatekeeping is a colonist’s word intended to help leverage shame against those who understand the dynamics in these non-infrastructured places. Those who aren’t gatekeeping are driving mass closures and the development of infrastructure in these places, which fundamentally ruins their character and leads people in who haven’t bothered to develop the skills to find the place on their own. The time invested in the skills to explore and find places on one’s own fundamentally lends to developing true appreciation, skills, and ethics about traveling in these spaces with care, whereas copying what you saw online does not. So, I see you think it’s awesome to not gatekeep a place like this, but what would be more awesome would be for you to acknowledge the fact that your falsely virtuous perspective is founded in a colonial mindset and the fact that online advertisements about places like this are fueling the most rapid closures and development of the West in our entire history. Only colonists advertise off-grid locations online with other colonists 🫵. Rooted and acculturated people don’t need social media advertisements telling them where to go and to help them shop locations by what they’ve already seen online. Thanks to people like you 🫵, all of these places are being urbanized as novel parks and turned into museums. The West is fleeting. 👊
@@Nate-mh5eu Don't worry, these places are all getting shut down by the Feds thanks to the transplants who couldn't go enjoy places without broadcasting them online. Won't be much left to gatekeep or to broadcast online soon. Jokes on the posers, the burden is on the locals. Looks like you also found the colonist ... LOL.
Awesome to see all these detailed. if you're on these Reno trails any time outside winter, ensure your cooling system is up to snuff, as these areas get hot.
All these routes are even better at night, definitely if you enjoy the spooky side of life. As a Reno native i really appreciate this video and you showing off our beautiful home. Kinda giving away some local secrets though. I'm jk, hope to run into you on the trails sometime.
Hey Mike! I wanted to pop in real quick and say THANK YOU for posting these great videos of the local area! Partly thanks to your channel, we felt confident in making an acreage purchase when the opportunity came up. Our new backyard made a 5-second cameo in one of your videos even! We look forward to wheeling the local area, and would be happy to synch up one of these days for a trail ride! Keep up the great channel, and we'll cya where the pavement ends!
Thank you for posting this video, came out great and super helpful. Just picked up a 2004 WJ that I’m hoping I can take to most if not all of these trails.
Hunter lake definitely is a beast. Took my Ram Rebel up there and it can be a challenge in a full size truck on parts of the trail that get really narrow. Got plenty of pinstriping from the vegetation about halfway up.
Thanks for doing this. I’m new to this and learning still. I went up Virginia Peak for the first time and it was very fun! Some trail damage, but worth it.
Great video! Another couple of good ones are: -Damonte ranch foothills to i80, or to Virginia City Highlands if you go south instead near the dry lake bed -county road 49 is a nice short one to the top of steamboat hills (great views) -Goni rd to Virginia City
Just FYI, was at Cabela's couple weeks ago and where the Hunter Lake trail comes into Boomtown at Garson Road, a new development is going in and I didn't take the time to see what the access is like now. Guess you can't stop progress. And there is still a little bit of a pond at the top of Hunter Lake that usually has quite a few small fish that are a lot of fun to catch, and a very old, abandoned campground right next to it.
How about Kings Canyon/Waterfall in Carson trail? Then cross highway 50 and continue up a road to a tower. Not sure what the dirt road is called. My four-wheel-drive club is called the Hills Angels and we adopted the Hunter Lake Trail and we are heading up there to remove an old truck once we got permission from Forrest service on September 15, 2024. We are going to meet at the Raleys at Kahl Ranch off of McCarran at 9 AM Sunday morning, September 15 if you’re interested ?
Thanks for the heads up! I have a commitment on the 15, unfortunately. Thanks for getting that truck out! Is it the really old one? Or something newer?
@@AllTerrainFamily CLM said that the old ones antiques stay. It is a newer vehicle that we have to drag out on its rims unless we get some tires and put on it and then get it to a trailer.
Thanks for the fantastic intro to trails in the area. Are there any you would recommend I avoid in my mildly lifted Duramax crew cab on 35" tires? I'm eager to get out there but don't want to end up someplace I'll regret with my big vehicle.
Yes, as long as you go 1,000 ft from residential, and it's courtesy to get off the well-traveled roads. What I’ve always done is to master the tools at hand. You have a drone. Learn to fly it with skill and precision. Then when you get an FPV you’ll be that much closer to mastering it and ready to hit the ground running, for lack of a better analogy…
I'm really glad to see someone that isn't gatekeeping rad trails like this.

Great information, thank you. I just got an AT4X AEV so I'm going to hit them all. I have limited experience so I will heed your warnings.
This is a great video, super informative and awesome shots! I have a stock 4Runner Limited and want to try some of the easier trails. Thanks for this!

Lots of good trails out of Fallon too!
Great video. Like showing the maps plus it would be helpful if you could also add GPS Coordinates.
Thanks!

I don’t know the specifics of that development but i wouldn’t expect the road to be closed because of it. The other end starts in a neighborhood.

What about kings canyon? Should make a video about harder trails
Not a bad idea…
I will say Toll Rd can be choppy in the winter and have snow. Did it a month ago
It’s choppy in the extreme.
we trail our SXS and Quad, is there a staging area for these trails we can park and unload? sorry were heading there and were from Alberta Canada
Yes.
