This was incredibly well animated - what it needs to be for what this arc will be. The one thing I love about this arc: the quick turnaround for Subaru's death - his reset point is mere minutes before his encounter with the archbishop in the town square.
He died like five times I think.

Leave it to Re:Zero to wrap up an hour and a half of mostly comedy with a truly unsettling ending.
At the last few minutes of the episode, and I saw the kid being held by that witch, I thought why is Subaru or anyone not helping him?! But then it popped in my mind that she has them all under her spell. And when the witch dropped the kid, everyone died😬At first I thought she would jump down and slay them all including Subaru, but the plot of her giving a church messiah speech and holding the kid like he’s Simba as a cub, that really shook me😮💨

poor Subaru he almost made through the whole ep without a terrible death only for it to happen at the end oof so close poor boi now the torture train begins again.
The peak series is here and what opening S3episode That ending was very well executed, you just knew the mic drop moment was coming it was going a bit too smoothly and boy did they deliver it the mic drop. They do a good job of making these slice-of-life-like moments, it almost makes you forget that this anime can get really dark. It can catch you off guard. I was wondering why Subaru was behaving that way suddenly when he knows how dangerous they can be. Amazing. Episode brilliantly done.
Our boy Subaru he rested a lot for one year and now is depressed time again 💀
I hope he made that year count. Because what comes it really going to kill him.

What makes it one of the worst deaths is that she made him enjoy it. Subaru applauded and cheered as Lusbel fell to his death, and it made him sick to his stomach.
I like how everyone's relationship dynamics evolved, especially Sub and Betty's. They are a nice duo.

Not only all of the all of the candidates are here but at least 3 archbishops are here. Gluttony who took Rem's memory and Crusch then Regulus and Wrath with her scary mesmerized ability and seemingly share the death of one person to others. This season looking the most crazy so far. Also really looking forward to see Reinhard, Wilhelm and the dad. Situation in more depth
Yeah… theatrical malice….. malice as in anger or wrath. The name of this episode was very accurate. This felt like 4 episodes in one and i quite enjoyed, the beginning part was fun and nice especially to see characters. For the second part getting into the city and just getting the lore/background and then meeting Lilliana (my favorite new character so far) and having the tease of the sin archbishop of greed. Next you got the ryokan and all the stuff we saw, seeing more old characters it was just fun, pure fun and then the stuff with garf followed the chat between willhelm and Subaru. Lastly we got the intro to LOTS of family drama and then we see the most interesting character this episode in Priscilla, just seeing more of her personality and the actions she does. Nice chat between Julius and Subaru about the Van Astrea family and we get a moment of respite until the Archbishop of wrath…. I did not expect for that to be her authority, my guess is it’s to get everyone on the same page of mind and it then connects them all, then using your voodoo doll idea, that’s how it works. This was a fantastic episode and holy crap that was an intense ending.
It's so good to be back, and it's even better to see that one of my favourite review channels of the series is back at it again as well.
Yeah the first episode being 90 minutes was a huge red flag right away. The final chapter this episode adapts is one of my all time favourites in the novels and I am glad they did it more than justice. That after treating us to over an hour of slice of life and character, as well as world building to get back into the grove and people nice and comfortable.

i can definately see why he felt so sick at the end, imagine just watching that hearing yourself cheering it on but not being able to do anything to stop it. and not only do we have the wrath psycho but greed is here as well and even potentially gluttony, im expecting quite the blood bath
Don't forget, Greed's crazy ass is in town as well, so I can't wait to see the chaos he causes
I’m just happy my boy didn’t lose a lot of progress this time. He had too many wholesome moments this episode to be erased😭

Earlier in the episode when they run into Regulus Corneus, the archbishop of Greed, I thought “Oh no! Here we go!” False jump scare. When the archbishop of wrath showed up, I just knew we were going to see something awful. So excited to have Re:zero back.
that ending was eerie, creepy, and gory. peak fiction is back on the menu. part 2 airing in winter makes me very happy considering some of the line up that's been announced already like red ranger and 100 girlfriends.
Cue the "hold up, wait a minute, something ain't right meme" So far love seeing all the people that are back!
Two things I knew while reading the LN at this point.
1. Whatever Sirius did was part of her Authority.
2. Subaru's savepoint is 10 minutes before his death.
An hour and a half of PEAK RE ZERO GREATNESS!
Now, I was fine with a comfy episode up until the end. Archbishop of Wrath just casually decides to pop up and Chin and Subaru were like this ain't good and they collectively thought it was a joke but then as the scene progressed and Subaru was like I have things to do and places to be can you tell us what you want... It was all jolly good fun times until she pulled out a kid and everyone started cheering... That was when it clicked that everything is not as it seems. I didn't even need to see the red brainwashing eyes... It was already game over but I didn't expect a collective head splatter when she dropped the kid.
Bloody hell... Literally...
That was probably the least painful yet the most disgusting deat Subaru had to experience.
It's never simple with Re Zero. You got a family dynamic with the Reinhardts. It just was so broken to see the grandfather, father and grandson/son in such a state that at any moment, the shitty ass father can decide to kick him out of his domain and him to be left without a title.
Priscilla is the most evil character in this and I just remembered that... I didn't think about it much before but now I realised just how shitty she truly is.
Graf feeling fown because Reinhardt blocked his attack. Little does he know, he's probably never reaching his level since Reinhardt is built like a sun.
He took it too hard on himself and it was weird seeing Elsa in his mind trying to say it was only luck he beat her.
I wonder how he's doing right now that he has seemingly found his mother. Quite the turn of events...
Great to have Re Zero back... It's been almost 4 years but I'm happy to have it back. And what's more it's probably gonna be around 38 episodes with 8 episodes now and 8 episodes in February.
Very well done for the scheduling considering that this arc is gonna be action heavy as some readers say.
The art has imo improved from S2 and we don't have to worry about some virus disrupting the flow and making it hard for the animators to animate.

I could have written an essay on this episode since it was so long but that wouldn't be any fun to read and a pain to write so I had to shorten it somehow.
BEST COMEBACK FOR A SERIES
They covered a full volume in this episode. These next two arcs are insane. Enjoy.
Ladies and Gents, the King has returned.
And Returns With a Vengeance, with one of the most disturbing Returns By Death since "the rabbits". Sirius' introduction is not quite there in terms of sheer trauma-inducing, but Boy does she make our collective skins crawl something fierce.
And she is just THE BEGINNING of what we are to behold in this season.
Especially if the rumours are true and we get Arc 6, split-cour or not. If WhiteFox is cookin' a double delivery...
I'm ok, I'm keeping my hype in check. I'll consider myself satisfied as a Re:Zero Fan even if we only get to see this Arc 5. An arc packed TO THE GILLS with sheer epicness, emotional moments, noble characters and hateful villains.
I've already read this arc two times in the novel and I'm currently almost finished with Arc 8, and even if I know there is more, much more epicness and emotion waiting for us down the line, I say "Thank You" to WhiteFox for their stellar deliver of Volume 16 of the Light Novel.
Garf and Mimi's interactions and their sudden encounter with an unexpected person. Julius and Subaru resuming their interactions. Reinhard being both an absurd character (literally popping out in a blink) and a troubled grandson of Wilhelm. The Astreas' really complicated family matters. Anastasia and Crusch. Priscilla Barielle being the outrageous princess she is (voiced again by the legendary Yukari Tamura, who really captures her presence and whim). Al being... Al (Rip Keiji Fujiwara, Tomokazu Seki will fill in your great shoes, for he is also a great VA). Liliana and Kiritaka... they are exactly like I imagined them.
And the Archbishop of Sin, Authority of Wrath, Sirius Romanee-Conti.
This was the preview of what's coming. I couldn't be happier...
But for one eternal grievance I have with the translation:
Consistency!! Siriusly. In Season 1, in the mangas, in the wiki, in the Light Novel, Julius' last name was Juukulius. Now they change it to Euclius (this might be the correct form, considering the phonetical interpretation of the katakana read, but come on!). Sword Saint to Master Swordsman. Lugnica to Lugunica. Ahram Village to Earlham Village to Aaram Village. And so on and so forth.
The damn wiki with it's names and terms are changed at the drop of a hat every time there is new material available. I fervently hope that new translators of the series, official or otherwise, learn to check the old material before taking over from others to maintain consistency (yes, even Witch Cult Translations, a fan group, contributes to this problem). To say nothing of Yen Press and how they butchered Patrasche's name.
Granted, myself being an official manga translator by trade, this is more of a professional grievance, and Re:Zero is one serious Witchfiend (most accurate translation of the term "Ma-juu") of a worldbuilding work, with ever expanding in-world content, names, terminologies, etc. Not to mention, how pretty much every statement carries so much information in every utterance.
So I can't give the translators that much of hard time when struggling with the material and everyone changing/correcting something.
But please: try to maintain consistency. We can wait until the entire series is over and a reprint, rerun happens to properly sit down and correct the names and terms.
This is the last time I mention this. I know that Re:Zero is an ever spawning spiral of complexity, and translating this series to Spanish, English, or any other language is not easy and makes Your Brain Tremble something fierce, Yes (best possible translation of Petelgeuse's inflection).
From now on, I'll seat down and enjoy. Both the series, and Brandon's review. 'Cause both rock. Siriusly.
I was expecting the checkpoint to be the first time Subaru met Liliana.
It's good to be back, also can't believe its been so long since rezero season 2 aired. The relationship between Wilhelm, Reinhard and Weinkel was interesting and just like you can't believe Tsuda is playing him (although he has played worse characters). Can't wait for the next episode and how Subaru is going to deal with this. I also wonder which sin Mr white hair earlier represented since he more or less looks like a certain powerful guy from the previous arc.

Ah welcome back Re;Zero. I was waiting for “that” moment to come because if you really think about it, this is Re;Zero. Instead I got distracted by all the potential plot threads that were shown or said since stories like this can turn any casual mention or appearance into a super mega important thing later on. Pretty sure source readers were basically Easter egg hunting and calling out points of foreshadowing. Well as they say, “ah shit…here we go again”.

I was relieved to see they were brainwashed. I was sitting there thinking ain't no way Subaru would act so casual after hearing she's an archbishop. It made me worried they wrote him out of character just so they could show the shock on his face change when she started to kill.
What a gathering of characters enjoying some relaxation. I do like that Subaru kinda knew something was up before getting brainwashed.
Not the worst death Subaru suffered.
It was quick, to the point, efficient.
Compare that to the rabbit death, where his arms legs stomach where chewed on, rabbits went up his ass to eat him from the inside out all while not finishing him off immediately.
The worst thing for this death is in fact the checkpoint is like just a while ago from the death, just the time enough for Subaru to grab some snacks for the four girls.
At this point Subaru got very limited time to solve this issue. Like who the F is he going to call for help?
How is he going to avoid the hypnosis or whatever that authority that killed him?
Considering how close the check point it, there's a very good chance we will see more than one death next episode.
He only got that much time to react, and obviously we aren't hearing Sirius's full speech again in the future loops.

I got a little bit confused when everyone died after that boy made contact with the ground but after that I noticed that they had red eyes and that's where I realized what actually happened

Just finished the episode. Only managed to finish up to 57 minutes. And just finished the rest now. Everything seems great. With some drama and later that ending. Oh my life that I have. Then when that song just played during the credits. Yeah. We are going into a wave of chaos with this season. Aren’t we? Man I am so dang worried now. The dialogue before she dropped the boy was did you connect with everyone. They said yes so maybe that is related.
The Sirius scene perfectly reminds you of how absolutely deluted sin archbishops are

The end of the series could seriously be Suburu's ptsd being so bad that he tries committing suicide but can't. He just keeps coming back to the moment before. He has literally watched everyone in this world he cares about die multiple times.

well well about Lusbel's drop, in Light novel and specifically Polish translation they changed the shared damage to, everyone following in the footsteps of Lusbel and climbing high places to jump off and I prefer this option way more

So far this is my favorite season at least in terms of ep 1, animation looks great. Loved all the interactions, Beatrice is cute, my favorite character.
You don't realize it but Sirius claps right after she appears and says her name. There's an echo and Subaru reacts because she used her authority. It is really subtle and the rest Sirius's act is a literal magic show. It diverts your attention away from the clap. Excellent Directing.

Literally watched the entire thing just fucking *WAITING* for the Turn to happen & when it finally was happening I was so confused.
I was like; WTF is happening? Why is everyone okay with this? At the very least, why the Hell is Subaru okay with this?

What I couldn’t help but notice though was that the Archbishop of Wrath had similar features to Emilia; Silver Hair, you could see her Pointy Ears under the bandages & she had a Purple Eye(s?). The Mysterious Male Stranger we bumped into it earlier had Silver Hair as-well. I’m sure it’s not a coincidence.
Seriously though, you’d think Subaru would be used to dying by now. I guess he has had a year off though. So I guess we shouldn’t be too hard on his poor stomach.

Don't get me wrong I love other isekai series like Mushoku Tensei, Tensura, Overlord, etc. I've even read all their light novels... But with this single episode Re:Zero reminded everyone that did you think those other stories were peak? Hell na there's only one king of Isekai and that's Re:Zero 😅

The more proper translation is Little Girl User. The word loli also doesn't exist in that world.
Lolimancer is an old translation that is still kept around because some fans like it.

LN uses 2 versions. Muppet mage or Lolimancer. I guess we needed a third one that makes him look like a predator..

I went into this episode without paying attention to the run time. I got irritated that the show wasn't going anywhere. I wasn't overly impressed overall and still find Subaru to be a disappointing protagonist.
