If you've just stumbled on this site then you have accidentally landed on RUclips's finest piece of music. I recently had a holiday in Turkey where a satellite TV station played for 24 hrs classical music on a station called MEZZO. When this particular piece came on it just blew me away. I had never heard it before. They played it every day at different times. Simply wonderful or should I say wunderbar. Mind it doesn't really get going till 0:36.
    Bless you Ludwig.

Bernstein adds so much zing and personality to any great classical piece no matter how good it is to begin with. He just becomes the music.....and look how cute he is with that little beard! You Rock Lenny!!

Excelente!!! Toda la obra de Beethoven me conmueve y Leonard Bernstein fue uno de los directores que, ademas de talento, ponía "piel" en cada presentación. Gracias por compartirla!

I thought the same that it was a trifle slow when listening to 6/6 but after hearing it again and again over the past few weeks I realised that Bernstein ingeniously did it on purpose as a dramatic brilliant interpretation of Beethoven. I can not believe how great this work is. Thank you for posting and thank you Leonard Bernstein for sharing your genius with us.

From piannissimo to a crecendo, finnishing in the three knocks at the door from Destiny. He is a Master using the French horns, not used before him in orchestrations of the time. Not only learned from Mozart, he surpassed him in his own merit. On top of that, deaf!, poor, not hansdsome and alone. He had everything going for him!!!

Bernstein is proof of the concept that with a sufficinetly well-know piece and a competent orchestra, teh roleof conductor is essentially supufluous. So... he might as well dance!

Well. I think the huge majority (if not all) conductors do like what they do. That is how they start to fallow this path.

very grand, dramatic performance...my only wish, is the tempo could be just a touch faster at the beginning of the final movement, as in george szell's recording of the 5th

@al1936ful I don't know. He seemed like a nice enough sort of guy though. To my mind, the US did not go too bad under him. He did have 9/11 and didn't start a world war. I would say that is a real achievement by itself.
