Thank you so much for this video. My husband and I are tent campers. We like really quiet campgrounds and after a little research we decided to stay here in the beginning of May 2019. It is so helpful to have a video like yours to give us a better understanding of what we are going to experience while there.
They just change some of the numbers on the map here recently at Loft mountain but the best sites are on the A loop 56 to 62. The absolute best site is A20 and A19 for tents. But save those for me. Hike Doyle’s Falls to Jones run loop trail. The best overlook in the area will be Black Rock Summit.
Thank you for recommending Loft Mountain! We stayed there 2 weeks ago and it was the best experience of my life. I couldn't believe how many stars there were at night and it was so quiet. I woke up in the morning to see the sunrise and it was just me and the deer. I felt like the only one on the mountain. Such a great place to go!
Around Easter time 1975, camping solo from N.J. to Cherokee, N.C. / Gatlinburg area. Stopped approx. half way home from Cherokee and stopped at " Loft Mtn. Very beautiful vista so I decided to sleep outside my tent in my sleeping bag.. An adult black bear checked out my picnic campsite table within a few minutes of turning off my propane lamp . Bear ate my Rx.s for any diarrhea problem. Found the cracked plastic vial and he ate the whole amount of tabs. Bear canine teeth punctured my large unopened Dinty Moore Stew and drank its broth. Walked near me hidden in my sleeping bag and picked up my large ice chest with its front paws and walked away upright carrying my food chest away from me. Heard it thrown down and the safety latch popped open ; bear ate its contents. I slinked out of my bag and retreated back into my tent. The bear never came back to investigate my junk food in sealed plastic bags within my tent. I fell asleep with a Bowie knife in my hand sitting up. My plan was to stab the bear in the throat. God was with me ; but a scary but " cool " experience.
I live very close to the Skyline Drive and Loft Mountain is my favorite, my wife's favorite and was my parents favorite, Lewis Mountain would be second behind that.
You have a great channel! I’ve subscribed! I really appreciate your videos and especially the ones reviewing parks like Shenandoah. I go there a lot. I first went in 1980 with my parents. I’ve recently been camping there with my gang. I love it there. The good thing with no hook-ups/boon docking is you seem to get a better crowd to camp with and less trouble with rude people. I mean it happens but less frequently imo.
LilyoftheValeyrising Wow you are correct in what you’re saying it is a different type of camper they’re not in your business but they’re very pleasant to talk to. Thank you for the subscribe many more videos on the way. Please let me know what videos you would like to see more of and I’ll make it happen see you in the Shenandoah.
Are the the bears dangerous? after watching your video I plan to camp and hike there soon with my kids ; but am concerned about the big black bears I saw on the video because. Do the bears attack humans?
Oh my goodness William 180...that is so sweet! I would cherish that kindness! 💕Thank you! I should have another video up in a week or so too... As always, looking forward to your next video!
Do you think i would be okay to just show up and hope for a tent camping spot? Or should I reserve one ahead of time? I’m trying to go in about two weeks! Thanks for this video too :)
@@William180 sorry i know its a stupid question but askin due to me trying to do it solo and wanting to prepared lol i thank you for your reply and glad you could get back to me!!!!
You lost me at measure 37 when you stuck the camera on your face. Can we see where you are going please? The landscape whatever it is it is more helpful than.......watching you drive. yikes, I fast forwarded to see if the scenery improves.......we are still watching you drive.

Goin' Coastal Jeep Club Thank you very much my RUclips brother....
Hey, great video, super helpful ❤️ do you usually reserve your spot? What are the chances of getting in per FF? :)
Silvana Riz no I normally do not call ahead and reserve.....the better sites are first come first serve.
Which shenandoah campground would you recommend for a beginner lol? I have a lot of experience camping but I want to bring inexperienced people.
Are the the bears dangerous? after watching your video I plan to camp and hike there soon with my kids ; but am concerned about the big black bears I saw on the video because. Do the bears attack humans?

This is what I would call real camping, not that "sleeping near the ocean" type stuff
