  • Stolen Forklift Accident Lands Near Railroad Tracks. There are times when my big powerful rotators just can't do the job. Not physically, of course, but because of SPACE! The big 4 axle monsters obviously can't fit into every driveway or alleyway, or in this case a no-access road leading to the back of a warehouse. The owners of this shop had a break in overnight and in the process they somehow backed up the forklift out the back dock.
    This is where I come in the following morning, and after scouting all possible options, decided to bring in Joe with our 16ton 2axle medium duty wrecker. This versatile truck was just small enough to cross the tracks quickly and safely with the use of wood. Once backed up, both lines were used to lift and catch the forklift then rear tow it around the block.
    From here, they wanted it inside of the dock. At first thought, a flatbed would be a great choice. But with the unit not running, you would not be able to push it off. Since I had Hulk, my 50ton rotator, already on scene it was a no brainer. I made one quick adjustment by removing the snatch blocks, to allow me to boom up and inside the dock with the forklift and get it in the exact spot they wanted.
    It's different from the normal heavy duty recoveries I post weekly, but hoping you guys still enjoy this cool little battle.

    As for the job....tight backing in for sure!! Finesse was the name of the game and executed beautifully. It is nice seeing other trucks doing their thing. And Hulk had to come in after all too. all in a days work...another geat job done safely and without further damage...hopefully those front wheels arent flat spotted too badly.

    Hey Josh. I was a certified forklift op. Even if the battery was dead the forks should have been able to be lowered without the motor running. Gravity would have taken it down by using the lever.

    • @PepesTowingService
      @PepesTowingService  11 месяцев назад +1

      And that’s the purpose of the chain. We DID NOT want the forks going down. Imagine they did, then when we go to tow it out, they would drag, correct?

    • @michaelrocker9000
      @michaelrocker9000 11 месяцев назад

      It may not have but you wouldn't have have to figure out how to get it back on the loading dock with the low clearance. Plus, you didn't need to drop the forks all the way down.

    You know you're not supposed to be on the tracks or in the rail corridor. It's usually a crime, even.
    But! There are ways to get in legally!
    Every level crossing should have a railroad phone number you can call, usually this is for emergencies like someone stuck on the crossing or a crossing malfunction, but it gets you in touch with the railroad's train control or some form of office. They might be able to put protection down to totally prevent any chance of a train coming along, send out a rail protection officer, a railroad policeman, or maybe even some trackworkers to help.

    Decades of strickly enforced OHSA health and safety regs and driving a forklift at the plant I worked at under such regs had me screaming in my head lower the forks, LOL. I understand why you couldn't but the old rule of only enough height when driving to clear the ground is ingrained in me😃. You know the railroads have been able to steal millons of acres of land in the country for their rails and right of ways to run and we do need the railroads but the least they could do for havign been grants all that land is keep their right of ways clean. That business is going to need a better back gate or the thieves will just try it a again.
