I was introduced to JBL's when I was about 17 they blew me away. a neighbor had this killer system with JBL's. Sansui amp and separate FM tuner with a Pioneer turntable. next to my Sony compact stereo with 8 track his system blew mine out of the water. i never heard such bass and crisp highs. I just had to buy vintage to try to get near to that memory.
Thanks for the excellent comment, glad you enjoyed. This is so outdated, an update is badly needed. I now have the Marantz 2015 powering the primary setup (removed the black Technics receiver). Already a fan of vintage over modern equipment, the change is of course, astounding. I did leave the EQ out of the setup for a month or so but have to admit I've unapologetically brought it back it. Once you go EQ, you never go back! Thanks for checkin' this out, update comin' soon! - Lj
Thanks brother, appreciate the comment! This is really outdated, most things have changed dramatically. I was planning to shoot an update as soon as a few new pieces are in place over the next couple of months. Glad you enjoyed, have a great weekend, thanks for checkin' it out! - Lj
They're awesome as a novelty for the most part and of course far more involved than playing a record which is far more involved than playing a cassette which is far more involved than playing a cd which is far more involved than using an iPod. Welcome to the VC where we enjoy and take pride in making things as difficult as possible for ourselves in our pursuit of the best sound available. - Lj
Thanks Ade! The space is great but of course, always subject to interruptions! Reminds me of a few of your videos ;-) 8-tracks in the basement (3rd setup). That setup is usually tied to home owner projects so I try like hell to stay away from it! Haha. Thanks for watching, still dying to see the picture disc museum you call a kitchen! - Best, Lj
@TheEndtroducing Thanks. I really dig the tours too. After watching quite a few, it was time to turn the camera around on myself. Thanks for watching and the kind words! - Lj
Very cool look at your musical home rooms. There is a lot of inspiration to do a few things over room wise in the VC. I have been doing an addition over that is a cellar room which was never used for anything but storage before. I now have a nice shelve in and I am modeling it after Rob {EoLoVoX} room. It is a lot of work but so much fun doing it. A hideaway music appreciation room. Very nice Lj. You have all the toys and comforts that every collector would love to have~ Rob/Analog2DigitalLand
Awesome room tour Lj. I share your love of vintage equipment. Although I don't have Pioneer turntables, pretty much all the other components I own are. I would love to find a reel to reel and here you are with 3!!! Very nicely organized listening spaces in both rooms. great Job!!!
I've been on the lookout for a reel to reel for ages. Now I know why I can't find any! You and punktexas have them all. Nice music rooms. I love the old school stereo equipment. I have a 70s Technics set up with a 1210, I love it.
Oh, that in rotation holder (retro orange) is incredibly groovy and, also, a great use of space. We will be on the lookout for one of those. Awesome idea. Jim and The Mrs.
Great to see what your set up looked like back then. I have a couple Reel to Reel Decks that both need repair. I've been really itching to get going with the hobby but there's just so much I can focus on at once. I have repair jobs i need done backed up. I'm hoping to be able to allocate the funds after the holidays to get one working properly. I found an unplayed copy of Journey Escape at the last record show believe it or not. That was a fast 9 mins, always entertaining man even years ago. --- Del
doctordel Thanks Del! The setup has changed dramatically since this was filmed, a revised tour is about as behind as your reel to reel repairs! The two Akai's that are in the video I'll probably soon sell as I haven't used them much at all since this was filmed. The Teac is still my favorite and one that I'll keep. I've added a Sony deck since making this but that one needs some tweaking to get it right (don't we all?) Totally feel the same way having watched a few of your older posts where you used much less electricity due to fewer gadgets! Aren't the current setups more fun or what?! Your room looks amazing now, a huge inspiration for sure and the kind of man cave legends are made of! Thanks for takin' the time to catch this, have an awesome weekend! - Lj
Nice setup! I always love seeing these kinds of videos. Funny, I just made a similar video about the Technics SH-8055 EQ that I bought recently on ebay. I did the same thing as you, comparing the sound with the EQ on vs off. You are right, the difference is night and day. The EQ makes a massive difference with cassettes and 8 track in particular.
@djtrishm I'm not sure if machines and/or reels are actively still being produced or not. These are vintage models and eBay, yard sales, CraigsList, etc. can be man's best friend for finding reels. Thanks for checking it out and commenting. - Lj
Can't remember Lucas. This video is really super old and the rooms have changed dramatically since filming this. I sold the Carver deck to a collector in Canada almost a year ago. He was building a complete Carver system and was tickled pink to add a mint one complete with box, instruction manual and remote and I was happy to pass it along. These days I'm using Nakamichi RX-202 and the SAE C102 and I love em' even more than the Carver to be honest. Time for an update, thanks for watching! - Lj
Whoa this one's old! Time to shoot an update, massive changes in here since this was filmed! Love that record case, kills me when someone sits on it! "Get off, get the eff off! It's not a seat!!" Thanks Scott, cd showed up today, can't wait to spin it! - Lj
Totally agree with you on your rant that wasn't a rant. I literally just bought Ace Frehley's solo album because you played it on your 8 track video and I liked how it sounded. So, the free promotion already worked at least once. Awesome tour, and damn that Teac reel-to-reel sounds nice.
Hey there Morgan! My parents considered naming me that at one point! Small world. Very cool to hear you grabbed Ace's solo album, to this day, one of my all time favorites and gets played regularly! Thanks for checkin' this and the 8-track video out, appreciate the support and great to hear from ya! Reel to reel machines have a sound all they're own and so long as the source material is good (the one played here was recorded from my vinyl copy), they sound great in playback! Have a great one, thanks again for hangin' out! - Lj
@punktexas Love the room tours, yours make me drool. Can't think of the model no. of the speakers off hand but they get the job done. If ours are the same, they're 3-ways which is probably they're only real saving grace. The EQ for this modern system is really what brings out they're true colors. If you could hear it, it really sounds like mud without it! What are you driving your with? This system has had those speakers attached to it for longer than I can remember! Thanks for watching! - Lj
@beninski707 Tanks so much for the kind words, glad you dug the vids. I can remember waaaaaay back when stumbling on your kitchen table series and lovin' em. "Here's another guy that digs the vintage stuff, I'm normal!" Lol, of course this was all pre-VC. Thanks for checking out the vid, a R2R is bound to turn up soon! - Lj
AWESOME! I have Waiting for so long time to see your Music room and now i see that You uploaded Ia Musicroom your one hour ago?! Haha:) cant wait for more !
@AndersInStockholm Thanks for watching Anders! The same EQ on the vintage system does very little to improve the sound. The modern system, as you heard, gets a really big boost from it. I guess it's true, they don't build them like they used to :-( Sounds terrible without it. Your welcome anytime to swing by if your in US! - Lj
@mikkotoivola Thanks Mikko! Vintage, in my opinion, is worth every problem it can throw at ya. The sound it can reproduce is simply unmatched by anything modern I've ever encountered. Listen to me preaching to the choir, you already know this! Thanks for watching and the kind words! - Lj
All is safely tucked out of harms way. Doesn't mean there hasn't been a few close calls! Lots of updates and upgrades since this was filmed, time for an update. Thanks for checkin' this out! - Lj
Great video.. great set up/rooms.. I have the same Pioneer(PL-200) TT you have in your main room.. My main TT is out of order at the moment so I've been using the Pioneer for the last month.. It was actually my fathers which I've had for years, really nice sounding TT..Thanks for sharing..
Nice, more than one music room... really nice and I love the "in rotation bin". I have a storage ottoman that I put casters on to wheel myself around the music room and to store my records in rotation.
Thanks. Lots of changes since this video was made, it really is time for an update. The in-rotation bin is an animal, making sure I get to things is always a challenge. An ottoman on casters is a great idea, well done! Thanks for checkin' this out! - Lj
U2 could do no wrong for many years, couldn't agree more. I will say that they lost me at Achtung Baby, but still, some decent singles after that point. Thanks for checkin' this out! - Lj
@Zappa21786 Thanks brother! Love the EQ on a modern system, just completely brings it to life. I attached it to the vintage system and it did nothing for it. Call it a crutch, but man does it make a modern system sing! Looking forward to an updated tour vid, your collection's growing great! Talk soon. - Lj
@bspeaks68 Ah, the 1010 is a grail for many and a gorgeous amp! Room three has the largest of the three amp's which is a Nikko NR-1219. I showed it a couple of videos back after a bit of restoration. Just can't match the raw power and soundstage of vintage equipment! The necessity of an EQ to bring out a modern system is proof of that! An owner of a 1010, I'm preaching to the choir! Thanks for watching and commenting! - Lj
It was never too bad, they're built like tanks, but they were definitely causing some unnecessary vibration. Room setup changed significantly since this was shot, time for an update! Thanks for watching. - Lj
I love those little 2 by 2's and 4 by 4's shelves. I saw a really cool shelve at Ikea that was shaped in a W and you just put so many records in each or books. I have that same Sony CD player which I love and also a Teac 10 band EQ. I think we have a few components from Tweeter/Tech Hi-Fi and maybe a little bit of Lechmere thrown thrown in for good measure?I think we share a lot of the same sort of Massachusetts collector upbringing in so many ways. Our age may be the only difference. Rob
@stephievon Ah the man the man. Eff him and his music hatin' ass. Thanks for watching again Stephanie and for being one of the two to catch it last night as well! Always appreciate your support! As an aside, it was nice to see your eldest kickin' it with Uncle D today! I see good looks run in the fam! Best always and much love, - Lj
Nice setup, Lj! It's especially great to see more of the room in which you make your videos. Cool reel-to-reel decks! I've never owned one, but I have romanticized them to the point of lust whenever I see one. You've got 3, so there was some serious drooling happening over here! I'd be remiss if I didn't add that I worry about those cassettes so near your speakers. Most speakers have fairly strong magnetic fields that can, in time, mess with (or even erase) the sound on magnetic tape.
Some cool equipment in your lstening rooms. Thanks for the tour !! Some great Queensryche in the background and ends with Life Is What You Make It !! Groovy video bro !!
@vinylmusicgirl 2 for 1 responses! I have a huge soft spot for Norah. She may be the only artist I like in order of release. She had me locked in with her first lp, holding on with her second, but my interest has waned a little in her last couple. Thanks for watching.....go take a drink from your fav of the fab four ;-) - Lj
@loonacy4 Thanks Steve, glad you liked it. Room 3 is the basement. Room 3 exists for weekend projects. Weekend projects exist to kill me. Room 3 exists as the only sanity for said projects. Henceforth, I do my best to stay out of room 3 unless I'm retrieving tapes or cd's for rooms 1 or 2 ;-) - Lj
And this one has changed dramatically. Always changing and experimenting with new things, glad to hear your own setup is underway. Have fun with it! - Lj
@EoLoVoX I love the detailer in you Rob, it's what the 'community' is all about. I never thought of speaker magnets wreaking eventual havoc on cassettes. Your spot on that its a probability. I'd love to find a rack for that room sometime this summer. There's a few hundred more cassettes in the basement area/room in a quick made shelf. Not as fancy as what you accomplished this week! Careful, the R2R bug is great fun but equally as consuming as it's vinyl counterpart! Thanks for watching! - Lj
@stevieju Thanks Stevie. It's an ongoing and evolving vicious circle. Always re-organizing, changing things out, etc. Thanks for watching, been digging your vids latey you've been showing some killer stuff! - Lj
@Paneeks1960 Rob's (EoLoVoX) project was just awesome. Love to see what you come up with. After seeing the new shelves go in and the room get painted, I know (as if I already didn't) that you have the enthusiasm, talent and vision to pull it all together in a way that would make any collector drool! Now, just need to find the time, time, time, time.......lol. Thanks for watching Rob! - Lj/WarmTodayColdTomorrowRinseRepeat
@BrotherTuck1973 Thanks Tuck, glad you dug it. Herb's pretty cool stuff. With a decades long career, he's all over the map in terms of style. Depending on what you like (60's jazz, 70's jazz, etc) your options are wide open! - Lj
Awesome music room(s) Lj! I'm still in the process of trying to finish mine up. Hopefully very soon it will be complete! Hope all is well brother, peace! -Marcus
I use the Ortofon 2M Red on my main Turntable and the Shure M97xE on a second table. Both are excellent and to the best of my knowledge, nothing would prevent you from using the Shure on the Project. I know a few people that do and are happy with it.
I didn't now you have that many reel to reels. I have those same Yamaha speakers?? I don't remember the model # off hand. Room tours are one of my favorite videos in the VC. Very nice set up.
@DocStrangelyStrange Glad you liked it. Thanks for the tip on the Dual, seems consensus that I should give it a go in the main room. What cart/stylus did you pair with or would you recommend for it? I'll talk to John (PT) and see if I can't convince him to ship a R2R overseas ;-) They're fun but as addicting as vinyl! Lol. Thanks for watching, be well. - Lj
Wow, this video is so dated. The room has changed 110% since this was filmed. I really need to do an update. The reel to reels are fun and all three (plus one new one) are still with me as is the Dual. Thanks for watching, I'll have a new one up by the end of the year. - Lj
@mrhoffame One model away.....what a cool 'who'd a known' moment! Of course, good taste runs in the VC ;-) I'll keep ya in mind re the reel to reel decks, I'd much rather see them stay in the family! Lol. Thanks for watching, you set the bar with room tours! - Lj
NICE! When you get ready to seel that reel to reel you better contact me first! lol. I dint' know you had that sx650. I have the sx 750 lol. I really like that receiver. Great vid. I LOVE music room tour vids!
Wow! Really nice equipment you got there, LJ! Those Akai R2Rs are absolutely beautiful. And Iike the receiver and speakers very much also. \m/ Somehow I didn't think you're a vintage guy. But that was a pleasant surprise! All my gear is vintage Yamaha from the late 70s. ;) Mikko from Finland
Lol, all semantics at the end of the day but some people just have to be right all the time! This video is so damn dated, I need to film an update. The entire system with the Technics receiver and Yamaha speakers is gone and has been replaced by floor standing 3-way JBL loudspeakers and a vintage Marantz receiver. Night and day difference but you know that! The 2nd setup with the Pioneer and Teac R2R is pretty much the same though. Thanks for watching! - Lj
smfcpthowdy Very cool, good taste amongst good people. The room's have changed near 100% since this was filmed a few years back but I do still have the Pioneer receiver in the shop setup. Update in the works, thanks for tunin' in! - Lj
LJ, even if Im a bit late seeing this, it's still so KILLER. Absolutely! Ive gotta a connection to get 2 more turntables and a Sony R2R. Just a slight $ issue. Lol. Again, thanx for sharing. I'm playing alot of vid catchup. Be well dude!
@C815richard Thanks! If you can tell the difference even with YT's terribly compressed audio then you know it sounded extra bad without it! Thanks for watching! - Lj
Thanks! Now I see where you're going with it. The answer then is no, I've never got into anything that intense as far as editing goes but hey, sounds like fun. Haha. Thanks again for watching and I'll check ot that vid when I get a sec. - All the best, Lj
Just got my first turntable for my 16th birthday! I'm using some old computer speakers right now and i want to use my dads receiver that he used for the tv. Idk if its too powerful though. Anyway hopefully my collection will be as badass as yours.
Hey Joey. Congrats on getting started in the awesome world of vinyl. Can't tell you how happy it makes me to hear that as you know digital has sadly become the norm. Take your time and you'll not only enjoy but soon learn more than you ever thought possible and have a collection to contend with. Thanks for checkin' this out and remonding me I need to make an updated version to account for all the changes since this was filmed! - Lj
get yourself some tube driven pre-amps for the turnrables. You'll be glad you did. Those turntable dust covers polish up nicely with Meguiar's ultimate compound! cheers!
Gotta start somewhere and I assure you, this didn't happen overnight and is actually quite outdated. A new one is in the works, thanks for checkin' this out! - Lj
Yes very nice indeed ..I really need to spend some time organising my stuff...when I see you in the videos,I never really know how far that wall of vinyl stretches...oh..have we ever seen you without a cap?...nice..Stevie
@fatbackfunk Although there's some nicer options available these days, Pioneer made some nice TT's back in the day. I'm a fan but thinking of heading the Rega or MusicHall way in the near future. Thanks for checking the vid out, glad you dug it! - Lj
@MrMeandaddy60 Thanks! The 3rd room is in the basement workshop. I'll film it at some point but for the meantime I'm trying to stay out of it as it breeds honey-do projects! Lol. Thanks again, - best. Lj
@RATTROK1970 Thanks. The 3rd room is in the basement/workshop. To be filmed soon. I try to avoid that room as it's weekend project related and if I go down there I must face the list! - Lj
Great music rooms. I didn't know that Carver ever made cassette decks. I'm crazy for vintage cassette machines myself, especially Nakamichi. The Dual 1218 is a great table, just don't try a Grado cartridge on it because it will hum like a bast. Thanks for sharing!
@DlSASTERPIECE Hey stranger! Thanks bro. always changing things up and re-organizing. Wish I could learn to just leave shit alone! Love to see your room when you get it all straightened out. For now I just dig the tapestry/posters swinging behind you. Hope all's well with school/work brother! - Lj
@TheZeekgeek1 Glad you liked it Zach, a little nod to you with the Deodato on the shelf ;-) Censorship sucks, seriously, we're here, pushing album sales, free of cost. Wtf?! Oh well, glad you swung by and thanks for checking it out! - Lj
@Chris4127basket Thanks Chris glad you liked it! The R2R's are fun but everybit as addicting as vinyl! Now if I could just get a 2nd job I could buy more! Help me! Lol! - Lj
Lj, wicked rooms! You must live in an older house in the north like us, you got the window wrap like we do. LOL! Electric heat? or hot water rads in that room with the storage? We have hot water rads and I cannot put my expedits as close as you have yours or the vinyl warps. :( Love the vintage gear, I am such a junkie for it! Might I suggest you check the cart on that Dual TT. They came standard with Shure V15 Type III's a lot of the time. That would be worth moving to your primary turntable.
It would be kind of complicated for me to explain. But type in the Title Analog Audio Editing with ReVox video in the search box once you see it you going to want try it yourself. If you do try this you need 3 things. A razor blade, an editing block, and adhesive tape. The guys channel is Meowbay. Good luck
I was introduced to JBL's when I was about 17 they blew me away. a neighbor had this killer system with JBL's. Sansui amp and separate FM tuner with a Pioneer turntable. next to my Sony compact stereo with 8 track his system blew mine out of the water. i never heard such bass and crisp highs. wooooow! those reel-to-reel twins are awesome! thanks so much for sharing your sweet music space
Great set-ups ! Love the open reel decks and that Dual turntable.I used to have A "1212" and now regret getting rid of it .
Thanks brother, appreciate the comment! This is really outdated, most things have changed dramatically. I was planning to shoot an update as soon as a few new pieces are in place over the next couple of months. Glad you enjoyed, have a great weekend, thanks for checkin' it out! - Lj

Thanks for the video. What a great music room you have and a great taste, I must say. Kudos for playing the Queensryche!
Roniel81 Thanks Ronie! Well beyond time for an update, so many things have changed but Queensryched is still alive and welcome anytime! - Lj
I've been on the lookout for a reel to reel for ages. Now I know why I can't find any! You and punktexas have them all. Nice music rooms. I love the old school stereo equipment. I have a 70s Technics set up with a 1210, I love it.

Paul Rudd owns a jazz trio and with a quick trip to Pier 1 you can to. Thanks for checkin' this out, badly needed update comin' soon! - Lj
pt 2. thanks for the tour, loved it. My wife commented that your home is so clean. :) cheers
Thanks so much, glad you liked it and of course, couldn't agree more. Needles belong in grooves, music the way it was meant to be heard. - Lj
@djtrishm I'm not sure if machines and/or reels are actively still being produced or not. These are vintage models and eBay, yard sales, CraigsList, etc. can be man's best friend for finding reels. Thanks for checking it out and commenting. - Lj

Fantastic!!! Beats my living room/music room!!! I feel so emasculated!
Nice! Philadelphia Flyers orange record case. Gotta love the 70's!
Whoa this one's old! Time to shoot an update, massive changes in here since this was filmed! Love that record case, kills me when someone sits on it! "Get off, get the eff off! It's not a seat!!" Thanks Scott, cd showed up today, can't wait to spin it! - Lj
You are welcome. Hope you enjoy it. It'll give you a bit of history on the band, being a collection of new material and old songs.

Thanks. Lots of changes since this video was made, it really is time for an update. The in-rotation bin is an animal, making sure I get to things is always a challenge. An ottoman on casters is a great idea, well done! Thanks for checkin' this out! - Lj
Right on brudda! Love the Reel to Reels! Killer set up bro. Love the music room tours \,,/
Talk soon. - Lj
Thanks for watching and couldn't agree more. Empire is essential heavy metal listening!
- Lj
Couldn't agree more and think an EQ is essential for sound balancing. Thanks for watching!
R2R, really cool and nice setup! Don't see many of these R2R aroung here anymore! Great tour
Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Don't sweat the jewel cases, I never listened to a jewel case that made me dance ;-) - Lj
Some cool equipment in your lstening rooms. Thanks for the tour !! Some great Queensryche in the background and ends with Life Is What You Make It !! Groovy video bro !!
Awesome. Listening to Queensryche in the background. Nice ! Empire is a killer album.
@greeno22 My pleasure, thanks for watching/commenting! R2R is a fun hobby but can be every bit as consuming as vinyl.....caution! - Lj
Fantastic machines. Wow, this is seriously outdated, time for an update! Thanks for watching! - Lj
Cool music room tour video LJ!!! And, yessssss, very cool Queensryche music in the back ;-) Awesome!!
- Lj
Excellent tour, LJ. I have been meaning to make a tour video as well...maybe sometime soon. I have that Pier 1 jazz trio too. Thanks for sharing!!!
- Lj
@skateordiemyass Just a matter of finding the right song. Thanks for watching, glad you liked it!
- Lj
@Lazerrus Long live magnetic tape! The tours are just awesome. Love seeing them and been meaning to face the mirror since you shot yours! \,,/
@kingsdrummer Cool. Thanks for watching Gil, happy to have you swing by! Now just need By-tor and the beers! Take care bro! - Lj
Somehow I didn't think you're a vintage guy. But that was a pleasant surprise!
All my gear is vintage Yamaha from the late 70s. ;)
Mikko from Finland
great video! thanks for sharing with us!
- Lj
Holy Smokes, we have the same set up almost.
I run with the Pioneer SX 650 receiver and the Pioneer PL-200 Turntable.
smfcpthowdy Very cool, good taste amongst good people.
Exactly what the caption on the screen says when I accidentally called them Teac's.
Those turntable dust covers polish up nicely with Meguiar's ultimate compound! cheers!
@joe376records Great eye, great album! Thanks for watching! - Lj
- Lj
Love the SX-650...I have a SX-1010 the big daddy of the era Mine is a black face
@RockingLUPA Thanks Ingrid, glad you like it! Can you hear me calling? Empire!
- Lj
@CollectorOfMusic Thanks Kevin. Was just playing The Sex Pistols lp you sent me.....nice timing! Great to hear from you, hope all's well! - Lj
Fantastic song, yes? Thanks! - Lj
You have good taste in EQ's my friend! Thanks for watching!
That would be worth moving to your primary turntable.
cool.I didnt know reel to reels were still made!
It would be kind of complicated for me to explain. But type in the Title Analog Audio Editing with ReVox video in the search box once you see it you going to want try it yourself. If you do try this you need 3 things. A razor blade, an editing block, and adhesive tape. The guys channel is Meowbay. Good luck
