Bulgaria did a lot in the first Balkan war and managed to defeat the Ottomans and gain a lot of territory so if the ottomans and Romanians didn't get involved they could have won
I just realized that Bulgaria and Germany have a lot in common. To give an example, people think that they could have won the second war that they started.
Aside from the politics, I personally love Bulgaria as a country, it has beautiful culture, food, people, nature and history, you shouldn't be sad to be from such a country
Bruh, Bulgaria and Serbia signed an official treaty for splitting Macedonia. They said that if it was possible an autonomous Macedonian state would be created, if not they'd split Vardar Macedonia in two - the contested southeastern part and the uncontested northwestern part. The latter would go to Serbia and the former would be given to Bulgaria. However, the treaty with Greece didn't discuss at all anything about the partition of Macedonia or any other territory. This here is one of the biggest diplomatic mistakes for Bulgaria. I forgot to add that Serbia Agreed to that partition of Macedonia in case they got a big part of Albania. The Austro-Hungarian demand for an independent Albania gave Serbia room for expansion only in Macedonia. Great video, tho.
Yea thus is the classic mindset of ''nationalists'' are bad so now i need to go full out the other side leading to supporting literaral porpaganda. You can see the same with VMRO, a Bulgarian organization being branded as simply Macedonian as if almost all of its leaders have not said they are bulgarians.
Cool, that means Bulgarai MUST have a copy of the signed documents, right? I mean - it would be pretty stupid if they didn't make a copy of the signed documents, right?
For the Italian topic, I think the most realistic scenario is Austria-Hungary giving territorial concession (under German pressure), for Italy to remain neutral, with promises of French land+colonies when they win the war. Italy was very opposed to joining the war and if they were offered land for simply remaining neutral I think in any scenario they’d have gone for that
Actually if Ferdinand was not so obsessed with Istanbul and had allowed for more army to be sent to macedonia insted of at the ottoman capital than Bulgaria could of captured a lot more of macedonia
Even tho i am not a Bulgarian i can understand why you are disliking your own country, i kinda feel the same for mine. Keep up the good work, love from Turkey. 🇹🇷💜🇧🇬
@@rewriting-historyboth! coins are always cool, and the multiple endings in my opinion is always a solid factor in alternate history as there are many instances where a desired result could come about through multiple different ways which creates different results. EX: Republicans winning the Spanish Civil War can occur with heavily increased Soviet or French intervention, each one would have a different result but the change of Republicans winning is still achieved, or if the Army of Africa is stuck in Morocco would have vast changes to Morocco and a Republican Spain in the late 1930s.
If I'm not mistaken, there was an agreement between Serbia and Bulgaria that Vardar Macedonia would be divided between the two countries. The Treaty of Friendship signed in 1912 stipulated in the first two points that the two countries would provide military support to each other in the event that a third country (including the Great Powers) attacked. After Austria pressured Serbia and Greece to withdraw from Albania, and Bulgaria did not provide support, Serbia refused to withdraw the army from the liberated territories, demanding that the Russian emperor determine the division by arbitration. Bulgaria refused it and attacked its former allies. In the video, it was mentioned that Austria might support Serbia, but that is not a possible scenario at all. Since the change of dynasties in 1903, Serbia and Austria have had bad relations, and I think that a more likely scenario would be that Austria would allow Serbia to weaken in order to bring it under control more easily, especially because of the importance of the Moravian Corridor, which would connect Vienna with Thessaloniki and Istanbul by rail . All the best from Serbia!

Make an alternate history video where Bulgaria sends troops on the Danube in September 1944 to avert a Soviet takeover and achieve a Finish-style neutrality postwar.
There was no reason it could not happen. Bulgaria like Finland is too far sideways on the road between the USSR and Nazi Germany for us to matter in the grand scheme of things. Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Romania could not be saved as they stand exactly on the way of the Red Army and were bound to be occupied. For us however it was a whole different story. The Soviets came in here with 250K troops, while we crossed into Yugoslavia one month later with an army of half a million. No way would the Soviets wanna deal with a country that wasn‘t a direct threat and would not simply move on to Belgrade. I recommend reading Bulgaria: Stalin‘s military trophy to understand more of the negotiations to exit the war with the Western allies and how infested we were with traitors and foreign agents at the very top.
Again, depends on who you ask, history has been altered on both sides. Getting accurate information was hard and I still have some people to disagree with me.

6:14 however in reality the Bulgarians had much less artillery and weren't as well equipped. Greece on its own was winning and reached Dedeagac and Kresna. Serbia and Greece were winning on their own historically, before Romania and the Ottomans joined
@@rewriting-history I think the most interesting scenario, which was also very well possible, was Austria intervening against Bulgaria, causing Russia to attack them, resulting in the Great War. I'm almost certain that in this case, Italy would join the Entente. The British would blockade Greece and quickly force it to submission (which could lead to an interesting Greek parallel of the "stab in the back" myth, against the monarchists, republicans and communists, similar to that of the Third Reich). For the same reasons as in our world, the Entente would most likely win, and Bulgaria would gain most of Macedonia, Albania would gain Kosovo, the Ottomans might gain the Aegean islands, the rest of Europe would be similar to our reality. I'd love to see a WW2 for this, as this time, Germany wouldn't have Italy on its side, but instead a string of Balkan and perhaps Austro-Hungarian rump states, possibly with the addition of whatever happens in Russia, with the Bolsheviks not coming to power. It would make for a really interesting scenario
In Greece was winning all the way up to the battle of Kresna in which Bulgarians almost encircled the whole Greek army. Meanwhile Serbia's main army was stopped at Kalimanci and didn't advance for the end of the war. This all happened just 1 week before the armistice so if not for Romania and Ottomans, Bulgaria would still have won. The whole reason why Bulgaria was losing so bad was because just 3 days after the start of the war, the commander in chief of the army ordered all actions on the front to be halted in order to not escalate the situation further. Combine this with bad military planning and their under impressioning of Serbia and Greece' army capabilities you can see why they lost. But in reality in this scenario 2v1, they w ould have With very, very hard efforts won
My apologies, but werent there treaties between Serbia and Bulgaria about the Macedonian lands before the 1st balkan war kicked in? How come there only be a "verbal agreement" that "if Bulgaria gets to Skopje first, it's theirs"?
Bulgaria would get most of north Macedonia if Serbia got Albania except north Epirus who would go to greece thus not making claims on Bulgarian aegean lands
I personally think on the italy joining the final scenario war thing that Italy woukd probably join the central powers not because of Albania but because they can get former Italian lands in France like Savoy and Corsica.
16:46 But with those borders are we sure that the italians would turn fascist? They got all the territories that they wanted so they wouldn't have never seen ww1 as a mutilated victory
But if the way the reactions happens is that russia declared war on austria before austria declared war on russia it means that the triple aliance pact with italy would take effect since irl argument of italy was that it was austria that started the war and the allience only called for multual defense In that case italy would also have to join the central powers
the only fully European country I’ve been to is Bulgaria and it was amazing. As an Iranian, I have a suggestion: what if Nader shah (from afsharid iran) won the battle of Baghdad against the ottomans and didn’t lose his sanity at the end of his reign.
there was a threaty bethween bulgaria and serbia about the separation of macedonia, where there was a undisputed zone which would be given to bulgaria and a disputed zone which would be given to one of the two countries under the arbitration of the russian tsar. With greece there was only a defencive pact and no treaty for dividing up territories and with monenegro there was only a verbal arrangement.
I love watching some of your map streams but it kinda bugs me the that russia doesn’t have russian Armenian after the russo turkish war of 1877 Pls fix it 🙏
9:55 It's unlikely becuse the Serbian dynasty in 1913 was Karađorđević and they were pro Entente unlike Obrenović that ruled in 1885 during Serbo-Bulgarian war. The Obrenović were pro Austrian.
The war wasn't started because of a verbal agreement, quite the opposite. The war was started because Serbia and Bulgaria made a written agreement to split Macedonia in 2. With the Bulgarians getting the Southern bit, all the way to Ohrid. And the Serbs getting Skopje and other bits. The Serbs walked back on the agreement, which is what provoked Ferdinand.
The verbal agreemnt was only for Thessaloniki. We had a signed treaty by our diplomat Ivan Geshov and a serbian minister (a diplomatic miracle) that provided us all the Macedonian land where Bulgarians predominantly lived (90% of it). Read the book "The Balkan Alliance/Balkanskiat saiuz"
Ok, and what about a video on the scenario where it never happens. The Great Powers don’t force Albania into the deal(meaning Greece and Serbia both get more land from them and are thus less forceful about Macedonia), and the Bulgarians do better and take the cities first with their allies more tied down.
Maybe Bulgaria remains out of WW1, but still they would get invaded by Germany in WW2. When communism comes the lands can be partitioned and we would still get the historical borders, but maybe slightly larger
Great in terms of what? Taking 100 years to build a highway or being the least corrupt in Europe? Don't get me wrong, Bulgaria is not bad and it's decent, but I want to live in the top 10 countries in the world, as I'm young and able to move there.
I feel the anti-nationalist sympathies, man. I'm British, my home nation spent so many decades squatting on the homes of many Africans and Indians and now we somehow have the sheer hypocritical gall to take a hostile stance towards foreigners ourselves without being apologetic for our historic subjugation of foreigners. We did worse to these people than they could ever do to us, the last thing us Brits should act like is a victim. Point is, I am never gonna judge you for anti-Bulgaria slander. I've slandered my nation too. We live in a free era where that shouldn't be a crime.
A bit of misinformation regarding the video mate. When it comes to the agreement between Bulgaria and Serbia, the first negotiations to take place, there actually was a solution to the territorial dispute about who gets what after the war. Bulgaria was promised a big chunk of Macedonia, although it didn't get any, but even in that scenario, the deal was to involve the Russians, letting them resolve the tensions. After the war, however, Serbia did not cooperate, leading to the eventual declaration of war on Bulgaria's part. But what about Greece? There wasn't any formal agreement with the Greeks and Bulgarians, whoever occupies the land, keeps the land - simple as that. Now, when it comes to the beginning of the second Balkan War, the alliance between Greece and Serbia was not as "public" as you made it out to be. It was a secret pact - an anti-Bulgarian pact, because the countries knew what a threat Bulgaria was and that they have stolen their rightful lands. So, when the Bulgarians tried to get the land that was initially promised to them from Serbia, Greece joined the war against Bulgaria - later followed by the Ottoman Empire and Romania, grabbing the opportunity and get some land out of Bulgaria.
Did you say you dislike Bulgaria? Why? You dont like your home? Do you know what? We are Great nation!!! We had promised territories on the San Stefano peace document. Greece a d Serbia betrayed us. WE ARE GREAT NATION, WE HAVE GREAT HISTORY!!!
The agreement between Bulgaria and Serbia about the splitting of Macedonia absolutely was an official treaty. The one with Greece was verbal. This is not a nationalistic statement or whatever you want to call it - it's just history. What sources did you use on that topic?
Would have ben great and best outcome. Balkans need a strong European power there. Vonstantinople should have ben in bulgarians hands..Turkey right now stil had the most power in the region and they do not have any balkans best intrest at heart
At the beginning of the second Balkan war, Serbia was losing to Bulgaria, but Greece was winning. Thus, Romania, taking advantage of the Greek victory over Bulgaria, entered the war on the side of the Greeks and the Serbs. The same technique was applied by the Ottoman Empire.
Okay this is a very interesting scenario actually! I don't think that Bulgaria could defeat Greece and Serbia on its own, but it could very well cause the Great War to take a different path, if Austria intervened
This scenario is super unrealistic, but Bulgaria winning while at war against all of their neighbors is unrealistic enough, so I decided to make the video more interesting!
@@rewriting-history you did a great job dw about me nitpicking 😅 I just found Bulgaria forcing Greece to cede Crete to Turkey a little funny, as Crete had just broken free from the Ottoman Empire on its own like a decade later, and the Ottomans had no serious fleet to subdue it. It would probably free itself again later 😅
As a Bulgarian, this is true. It was a vassal of Bulgaria at some points in history, but never a part of Bulgaria itself. And while it did have a sizeable Bulgarian minority, the majority of the population has been Greek for millennia.
I think in the last part u said I feel like Germany would probably and maybe win as they do not have a long term front in the Balkans against the Greeks and Yugoslavs giving more infantry in the eastern front but I think they’d probably still lose which might lead to a little bit larger Austria and Hungary
As a Bulgarian man myself, I agree that we were promised Thessaloniki and Skopje, but that’s not because I’m Ultra-Nationalist (even though I am) I think that possibly a shared occupation of the cities could’ve worked out

Bulgaria would get most of north Macedonia if Serbia got Albania except north Epirus who would go to greece thus not making claims on Bulgarian aegean lands
good video!
Glad you enjoyed it, Chase!
We need a part 2!
For the cold war? Could be cool!
I love your vids bro keep going❤🎉
I personally think on the italy joining the final scenario war thing that Italy woukd probably join the central powers not because of Albania but because they can get former Italian lands in France like Savoy and Corsica.
But that is true for every scenario, not just this one
Good video
It just dropped 3 minutes ago, but I'm glad you liked it so far!
много готино видео!!!😃
Много благодаря, радвам се, че ти хареса!

From Bulgaria, awesome vid
I'm glad that you liked it, my friend!
this dude has the strongest accent fr
Yes 💯
Love you're vids too
I really appreciate that!
16:46 But with those borders are we sure that the italians would turn fascist?
They got all the territories that they wanted so they wouldn't have never seen ww1 as a mutilated victory
Love Bulgaria from France 🇨🇵❤️🔥🇧🇬
Love to France from Bulgaria, would love to visit your country soon!
But if the way the reactions happens is that russia declared war on austria before austria declared war on russia it means that the triple aliance pact with italy would take effect since irl argument of italy was that it was austria that started the war and the allience only called for multual defense
In that case italy would also have to join the central powers
Can you do "What if Paraguay won the Paraguayan War" next?
Already a video by PH
the only fully European country I’ve been to is Bulgaria and it was amazing.
I love watching some of your map streams but it kinda bugs me the that russia doesn’t have russian Armenian after the russo turkish war of 1877
Pls fix it 🙏
LOL this is the most minor detail in my map that is missing, nobody has even noticed it up until now
9:55 It's unlikely becuse the Serbian dynasty in 1913 was Karađorđević and they were pro Entente unlike Obrenović that ruled in 1885 during Serbo-Bulgarian war. The Obrenović were pro Austrian.
Nice detail that I forgot, thank you for pointing it out!
@@rewriting-history No problem!
I like ur accent bro. I know a few Bulgarians. They are good people
I appreciate that, glad you liked it!
I love your history content, its very entertaining compared to other history channels
Много яко видео
Много благодаря, оценявам го!
Why do you dislike Bulgaria bro Ferdinand wasn't right to start the war but that doesn't mean you shouldn't support your country
I don't like the politicians ruling the country as it has become a shithole, has nothing to do with history 100+ years prior
@@rewriting-history then why do you say it in a historical video
@@lordvader5756 because im bulgarian and i dont want people to think im a fascist or slowing bias. This happens often
Aw man... I love bulgaria... I'm also from there
I'm sorry, get well soon!
@@rewriting-historyBro what..?
I LOVE YOUR COINS COLLECTION
I appreciate that, I will show more coins in the future!
Why dislike your home country, I'm Bulgarian myself and our nation is great
Great in terms of what? Taking 100 years to build a highway or being the least corrupt in Europe? Don't get me wrong, Bulgaria is not bad and it's decent, but I want to live in the top 10 countries in the world, as I'm young and able to move there.
@@rewriting-history what about the past, it is a Bulgarian who invented the computer
@@rewriting-historythen go there,we Bulgarians don’t want you here.
Bro just roasted my home☠
It's also my home lol
I feel the anti-nationalist sympathies, man. I'm British, my home nation spent so many decades squatting on the homes of many Africans and Indians and now we somehow have the sheer hypocritical gall to take a hostile stance towards foreigners ourselves without being apologetic for our historic subjugation of foreigners. We did worse to these people than they could ever do to us, the last thing us Brits should act like is a victim.
Point is, I am never gonna judge you for anti-Bulgaria slander. I've slandered my nation too. We live in a free era where that shouldn't be a crime.
Appreciate the understanding

Serbia didn't get albania so Bulgaria couldn't take north Macedonia
I’m from Bulgaria and I agree with you 2:10 we should have gotten at least Skpoje
0:54 sounds a lot like RealLifeLore lmao
The agreement between Bulgaria and Serbia about the splitting of Macedonia absolutely was an official treaty. The one with Greece was verbal. This is not a nationalistic statement or whatever you want to call it - it's just history. What sources did you use on that topic?
Would have ben great and best outcome. Balkans need a strong European power there. Vonstantinople should have ben in bulgarians hands..Turkey right now stil had the most power in the region and they do not have any balkans best intrest at heart
As a French, I think I love Bulgaria more than you do lmao
I hear that very often lol
At the beginning of the second Balkan war, Serbia was losing to Bulgaria, but Greece was winning. Thus, Romania, taking advantage of the Greek victory over Bulgaria, entered the war on the side of the Greeks and the Serbs. The same technique was applied by the Ottoman Empire.
But saying "just win against Greece" is objectively a worse point of divergence than what I did.
Good video what if the ottomans won first Balkan war
I already have that video, it's my second ever video made, quite an old one
It would probably free itself again later 😅
bulgaria winning a war on all of their borders is insane
It is, but that's the narrative of the video lol
What If Indonesia became independent in 1930? Would they do better against the Japanese empire in ww2?
И аз съм от България👍👍👍
Bulgaria focused on the Adrianople front, that's why we were so weak on the Macedonian front
They did try to capture Constantinople, which almost worked. I can make another video where Bulgaria succeeds, which is even more interesting.
@@rewriting-history almost worked?
Thessaloniki had never occupied by Bulgaria and this would never changed.
As a Bulgarian man myself, I agree that we were promised Thessaloniki and Skopje, but that’s not because I’m Ultra-Nationalist (even though I am)
I think that possibly a shared occupation of the cities could’ve worked out
There's no way on earth we were promised Thessaloniki.
15:35 i thought Italy would join against Austria-Hungary
Haven't heard so much Rrrrr in the morning
We Bulgarians lost these wars on paper, whit none battles lost !!!
What if the king baldwin IV didn't get leprosy
