This is not a comparison of my life to anyone else and this is something I have always wanted to be able to give myself. I am fully aware that with the current state of the internet this video will no doubt receive some negativity and I will take my usual stance that if it isn’t constructive, it won’t be tolerated.
I have watched every dressing room tour and reveal on the internet and loved them so I’m excited to share my own.
Its a long way since my old dressing room/office/ali’s wardrobe hehe!

It shocks me how much this company have got wrong considering this was not a cheap project! From the wood colour to the cabinets not being the correct width to the mirror patterns... i'm surprised you managed to stay so upbeat and positive! it will all look beautiful once everything has been sorted, which girl doesnt want a dressing room! :)

Lydia, I am 42. Need I say any more? When I was your age I always thought I looked horrible without makeup. Truth is I looked AMAZING. Please appreciate your youth and beauty. I look after my skin the best I can but it’s not the same after I turned 40. You look beautiful, without makeup. It doesn’t last so please remember that!!!

Robin - you’re not past it at 42! I’m 41 and probably happier with my appearance now than I was ten years ago. This extends to my skin. In fact, I had severe adult acne in my mid 30s, and never felt more unattractive. Thankfully, it has been resolved.
Robinn bean surely 42 isn't that bad , but if you smoke and drink lots you could look 42 at 30 !

Oh dear! That company has got so much wrong! You're right, the mirrors look too busy and I agree with the comments below... the wooden insides are way too dark. On the positive side... I absolutely love the wooden floor!
Well, for real, that company should NEVER have expected final payment before it was completed...as far as the shelving goes...it is dark, but then if she had white shelving, it sure would get scratched/scuffed-up in no time. Maybe, the back walls to each "section" could be painted, or even a metallic silver or gilded wallpaper(?!?)...or pretty "English Garden Posie sort of print...but then it might distract from the real "art" which truly can be; a woman's shoe collection, her handbags, hats, scarfs, etc...I think painting or wall-papering the back walls...leave the shelves "as-is."

That parquet (or Amer. Eng. parkay) floor is divine! :)
I think if the wood shelving were painted white it would make the room look more seamless. Also above the mirrored doors the space above needs a molding to cover the open space connecting the ceiling to the cabinet. Overall the wardrobe is beautiful!
There's a lot to love about this room, Lydia! The one thing I'm not fond of is the open shelving color of the wood. It does give it an unfinished look imo. There's also a lot more open shelving than I would personally go for, but its your space and it sounds like you're quite happy, so bravo! Its gorgeous overall!
It's beautiful but the purse cabinets look so unfinished with that brown color. Would have been much better white. Especially if you end up installing those led lights. If you are worried about it not being warm and cozy enough you could always decorate with warm and cozy accents
You can put velvet paper in the drawers, and it would help to keep your accessories in one place.😉
Why is there a gap between the big mirror cabinet and the ceiling?
It will be difficultt to clean there...

As a designer, having the entire set of cabinetry backlit with all white cabinetry would be much more glamorous, and be a more effective backdrop for your designer bags and shoes.

Your dressing room is beautiful. Well done! If I may suggest, you could have a decorative moulding to fill the gap between the central mirror cabinet and the ceiling.
I think grey would look better for the cabinets because it would make the handbags stand out more and maybe you wouldn't even need lights then. Probably more eco-friendly ^^

Lauren Blake 100% in no insult towards Lydia, the Brown makes it look slightly cheap in comparison to how grand the wardrobe is. I think she was just desperate to get the wardrobes done because of how long it was taking

I am wondering, why do the mirror closets have a gab at the top with the ceiling? There must be a reason but to me it just seems like an unnecessary inconvenience because of the dust that is going to collects. Besides that it's a beautiful wardrobe.
Sometimes we love to see you just hanging out, not all glammed up because it's like hanging with one of your best girlfriends. Go for it!! This video is awesome and your dressing room is fabulous!! Lydia firstly, congratulations. What an accomplishment! I do agree with everyone about the brown looking unfinished. I don't think you need to worry about it looking cold... Those beautiful floors would literally warm up any room. Go all white girl, your bags will pop SO much more with a white background and then you wouldn't need to add lighting.
I'm so happy for you, Lydia! This is the perfect space for someone in your field to have. As a country girl and someone who works in agricultural science/agriculture, I wouldn't ever have a use for a dressing room like that, but it's fun to see the different needs and specifications of different individuals :) I look forward to doing a similar organization re-do with a built in mudroom, as you can imagine that's a big deal for someone who has a lot of outdoor gear, so it'll be my version of your gorgeous dressing room, haha! ;) Different strokes for different folks, as long as we're all enjoying our spaces, that's what's important! And if you ever change your mind about the woodtones in your shelves, a grey tone would be GORGEOUS in there! Or, if you were going to get crazy, a deep navy. So luxurious!
I thinks it’s a beautiful room Lydia. For me personally there will be too many open display shelves, that’s totally just my opinion. If you really love it then that’s what counts... it would be boring if we all wanted the same thing... you look so happy and that makes me happy too ❤️
julie Allan Hmmm but she’s going to be using it as a back drop as well...Of course your decision wouldn’t be based on the same needs would it? Unless you have a RUclips channel and are using your closet as filming grounds.

The cupboard by the door, that you do not know what to do with... You should put items in there you need for videos. Things you want to film about, extra filming equipment, extra candles, something to dust.
The 'grand wardrobe area' looks fantastic! But I think the shadow above makes it feel shorter.... You should ask your electrician to install a strip of lighting above, if you do not want to extend the moulding to the ceilings.
For seating, you might want a bench instead of 2 chairs.
Consider a custom radiator fan, to assist in the hot air movement if it gets too cold in the winter. However, the issue might be the windows, you will know if they frost over in winter from the inside.
It seems this closet company couldn't get their act together to make the closet look the way you intended. Too many compromises were made. I know you will make sure it turns out the way you want.
Right! It looks amazing and is turning out great but the complete wrong color of wood... not even close to what she ordered. I would of lost my mind lol

Definetly agree with you on the payment terms.. I work in projects and if any company or subcontractor is asking for upfront 100% we take that as they aren't in a great place financially as a company. Beautiful dressing room though! 🙂 😍

Yep, thought the same. But I guess Lyd’s problem is with adult or elderly spiders, you know after a certain age they just can’t be trusted...Now the baby spiders however, who can have a problem with those sweethearts, they’re still crawling around, give them a break!😉 PS - That gave me hope that Lydia’s fear has a cure 🤣😆❤️
I have to agree the inside of the shelves looks unfinished as it currently is. I’m also not a fan of the gap at the top of the tall closeting (with mirrored doors, across from the door)-it’s just wasted space, why not go all the way to the top? And it looks a bit odd where you have two different widths of the shelving along the long walls. There’s also a bit of oddness where the tall open shelves hit against the smaller open shelves in the corner, I mean this is supposed to be custom so why didn’t they fill some of these odd spaces. I love you, and I know you got some of this at a nice discount, but that closeted wardrobe wall looks like something from ikea and not custom
Love your videos but not sure why your followers would say the closets looks amazing when they clearly don't. I'm an interior designer and see so many people end up miserable coz they went for a cheaper company instead of a reputable one. I doubt they will really fix much for you but my advice would be to have the dark interiors chalk finished to lighten it up and to a shade similar to your floor, remove the detailing on the mirrors and leave it plain and add a plush armless sofa chair/ bench in a pink or grey at the end of the island to soften up the space.

I agree! Unfortunately to me the wood makes it look like you've just not bothered to paint and it looks unfinished and the hand bags don't stand out as much as they should do to show them off :( gutted you have had so many problems but If you're happy with it all then that's all that matters! X
My kitchen designer told us not to not paint the wood inside of our kitchen cupboards as it makes them look more expensive as you know it’s solid wood rather than MDF sprayed 😊
Have your carpenter shorten the legs on your chairs then just pop on new glides on the bottom of the legs. Love the entire room. Maybe you should ask your electrician if he can put an outlet in your island so you can sit down and do your hair and you will sometimes need a lighted mirror, too. But the most important question is.........do the cats like it? Do they want a bed by the radiator so they can watch their human get ready?

Been waiting so long for this video! First I must say that you need to stop commenting about how you look. We love to see you being and looking the way you are. We all have days when we walk around with no makeup and cozy clothes. You really don´t need to comments about that because your beautiful Lydia :) Second, I´m very happy that you are being honest. That company that build your clothes really need to work on their customer service. I would never hire them after all the stuff that you´ve been trough. Have not seen the end of the video so I hope you will be happy with end results.
Such a lovely room. So sorry that your cabinet maker has made so many avoidable mistakes. I'm sure you know this being so business savvy but you are well within your right to ask to be compensated for their mistakes regardless of whether they are making it right. Especially, since they got the wood color wrong for the inside of the cabinets. Hope it all turns out well.

I am planning wardrobes and I thought this company was going to be good as their website looks beautiful, BUT after all the mistakes they have made there is no way I would use them. They should not be charging you full price as they have mucked up the wood colour. Left big gaps in the work tops (let's hope they make good on those) got the fret work on the mirrored doors wrong. However I hope that they make all this good for you as you have waited a long time for this. You deserve for them to put this right.

Not braggy at all! I love the mirrored doors as they are, so excited to see what the new ones look like! I’d love to have a dressing room one day - a girl can dream!
I reckon the company have a history of making mistakes and customers have withheld payment hence the 100% upfront. Personally, I wouldn’t pay100% up front, it would be too much of a risk for me.
I would highly recommend to paint these insides of the cupboards to white, so all your beautiful bags and shoes would pop out so much more! 😘
If you want to leave the shelves white, I’d paint the internal white as well then create a soft contrast with your favorite color blush on the walls or a smoky dusty gray-blue (light) which always goes well with whites and will help create sky-like conditions in your cut roofing.
In my opinion ( i know I know! ) you either need white shelving or cover all the open areas with doors. It just looks unfinished
I'm a professional high-end closet designer and here are my two cents: first, I actually like the wood; it looks like cherry from the camera and I think it makes a very elegant and timeless match with the matt white. The company obviously didn't know how to take measurements, that's solid. The "touch-latch" (or "push-pull") door could have been made, I honestly don't buy the company's "excuse" because there's no technical impediment there. I also would have chosen brushed nickel hardware (hanging rods, handle, etc) as it's a more modern and feminine material than chrome. Overall, headache a part, it looks good!!!

Lydia, I am 54, and have come to appreciate inner beauty with outer beauty being a true reflection of that. Being comfortable in your own skin still makes you a glamourpuss in my eyes! I'm sure I speak for many who love you for the genuine, intelligent, inspirational and honest woman that you have shown yourself to be. Those are true qualities of beauty that we can all aspire to in my opinion. To have a special space of your dreams is, again, something we can all dream for ourselves if we wish to work hard and make it happen. I'm so happy for you that you've achieved this for yourself and I enjoy following along with you!
Such a big, beautiful, dream closet. I’m surprised at how many things were done wrong and in all my own remodels I’ve never had to pay 100% up front. The closet door details are just eye catching and that chandelier is 😍. I’m excited for the final reveal.
BTW my whole closet would fit in a 6th of your space and I love it, I’m not longing for a bigger room but love to see others eye candy 💕I don’t see it as “braggy “ just inspo.
It's a very pretty closet...you can probably just get LED strips that stick to the wood for part that you didn't get light for.

It would be nice if you put some liners in your drawers and a sensor lights then when you open your drawers it lights up so you can see your accessories and products so much easier. A nice liner on the bottom of your drawers will give it that extra touch to your closet room. It's looking good so far. X

The dressing room is amazing. I'm gobsmacked how beautiful the space looks. I love the soft gray. Makes the room feel bright and warm. I have one suggestion. For the triple full length mirror wardrobe, I would suggest the side doors have the hinges switched. That way, you could partially open the doors and have a three angle mirror.

It’s coming along beautifully but I agree with other comments. The wood shelves would look great painted and that gap above wardrobe filled with something decorative. Right now the floor tone isn’t jiving with the shelf tone but I love the mirrored doors.
Im sure it will all look great when it's finished. The chandelier is amazing. However esthetically there is too much open shelving for my taste. I don't think the the wood shows off your shoes/bags to their advantage. Maybe if the back had been painted the same shade as the doors? The floor is beautiful. You were very brave because I would never have dealt with a company that required 100% upfront. It seems that their measurers need to step up their game because if they are truly professionals, they wouldn't make so many mistakes. Having said that I would love to be able to have a dressing room of any shape or kind. Oh, and I don't like the gap above the main wardrobe... It looks weird. Sorry about the critique but that's just my personal opinion. It would look lovely when finished I'm sure xx
I absolutely love your dressing room. Just a thought, if you switched your long dresses door with your jumper door they would open the opposite way so you would get a 3 way mirror. You would be able to see your beautiful outfits even better. Kinda like when you go to a bridal shop. I have one in my bathroom and I love it.

I have to agree with you Lydia with respect with the closet company. In fact, I also felt disappointed that they made the decision with the interior colour without consulting you. You could have painted the inside of your door to blend with the wall and still have the grey colour on the inside shelving units. I am into accessories and I love the idea you have to store them. How will you store your fashion jewelry?

It looks amazing! I think the one thing it needs is a soft chair and small rug with maybe a throw blanket. A soft cozy textured area, in other words, would really cozy it up.
I also don’t like the brown, would have preferred grey or white 🤔

Its lovely!! I would definitely put a little air mattress there and just camp there :p Only thing i would change is the space between the ceiling and your full length wardrobes, that will make the room a lot sleeker! lots of love from the Netherlands

It seems that with every renovation there are problems, mistakes, oops... etc. I just love how calm you are about how many oops happened in this room. With that said, it is just so gorgeous! I know you will enjoy using this room for many years to come! I still remember your tiny little closet in you first house!

You can buy led light strips that either change colour or that are white either yellow white or cold white which is what I prefer!! Defo add them in will make the room even more beautiful!!

Looks Beautiful! A possible suggestion for the open cabinets is to paint the back of it with your white paint to brighten the space. The purses and shoes will pop.

What a beautiful closet! Usually with custom made closets, the color of the wood is matched throughout. So I'm surprised they didn't make it all white. I agree with what someone else said below, that if you do paint the shelves white, you probably won't need lighting. Also, if I had a room like that with so much natural light, I'd put some plants in there, as well. Maybe orchids?

Looks nice. I agree, that color natural wood keeps it warmer. I don’t think it looks unfinished because of the tone of the wood. I hope you have, or will get a UV protection for the windows. Otherwise, your beautiful items will fade.

Get the gap filled in above the wardrobe
This looks amazing! Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but just a little tip... we have velux windows and I would recommend getting some blinds or shutters for them to block the light when you're not using the room. Otherwise the light coming through will discolour the floor and your beautiful furniture, melt candles, bags etc (my family learned the hard way!) Just a friendly tip because all of that stuff and hard work is far too incredible to let a bit of a light change it !

It is absolutely beautiful! I think you are absolutely right about the mirror insert; it looks a bit to busy. When it comes to the wood color- I’m sure it looks beautiful in real life. On came it looks a bit undone, like ikea inserts. I would paint it the same color as the rest of the woodworks. The floor is stunning!

If the cabinets were painted white or gray it would look so much more glamorous
I personally don’t care for the brown wood, I think it makes it look unfinished. A grey toned wood would have been nice, especially with your choice of flooring. But, the flooring did help the wood look a little better. I was very worried in the beginning of the video lol But all in all it’s beautiful! And you’re so lucky to have had it done.
Why did you start moving in before the room was done? All the dust from installing the floor, counter tops, doors, etc - I don’t understand...I’d be worried about all my precious belongings
Another thing you can do in winter to keep warmth in your dressing room is put runner rugs on each side !

Lydia, I remember your old closet and how patient and how matter of fact you were about climbing in and out of it. You would have to empty so much out of the closet to just get what you needed. The dressing room is actually very nice! tbh I thought that because you like greys so much + the almost white walls it would look cold and clinical. however I just love the impact of the warm wood on the shelfs and on the floor, it makes a huge difference! I really hope to see more cosy warm rooms and perhaps more colorful? Even light beige instead of gray..of course it;s your house and living space, im just saying!
I definitely understand feeling insecure, but you look amazing even when you are looking like what you consider to be “not at your best”! Stop being so self-deprecating! You look great any way you present yourself! And it’s really refreshing to see you in your casual state! Makes it seem more real.

1st off you always look gorgeous, but in this video you were literally glowing, you seem so happy and content and I’m so happy for you.
2nd you’re right about the wood it ended up being a happy accident anything lighter would have washed out your beautiful doors taking away from the focal point and anything darker would have created too big of a contrast, again taking away from the focal point.
3rdly I am so happy for you, you work your butt off and to see your dreams and hard work become a reality is so exciting and honestly I feel proud of you❤️

Yay! So glad to be sharing in your happiness with you! I used to have open shelves in my dressing room and I had to continually dust my shoes and such. I now have glass doors on my shelves and...game changer. I can see all my pretty little things and they stay nice and protected. If at some point you wanted to throw some glass doors on your open shelves, I highly recommend it. Can’t wait to see how you have it all styled!

The dressing room is just a dream! At first I was not sure about the interior being wood and everything else being white but now I really like it and I feel like it makes the room more sophisticated. ❤️
