      Why? Are you even tried a MacBook air? What do you need more memory for? Surfing the web? Watching youtube?
      Apple makes a distinction between Students, low end users who don’t need overloaded brick laptops with tons of fans to cool laptop (with low battery life) and people who needs powerful laptop (MacBook Pro). Memory on M chips are not same as memory on Intel chip architecture.
      Apple laptops are smoking any laptop battery life / power consumption. Not to mention how light Macbook air are.
      So compare what is comparable.

      @@franckleveneur676surfing web ? Watching RUclips ? For student ? Spend 400$ instead of 1100 !
      Hmmm not the same memory ? And ?
      You can build a machine with onboard (onchip) memory and add an extra I/O to increase Ram...exemple : Amiga 500 in 1987 (chipram onboard and fastram on extension).
      CPU need amount of Ram
      GPU need bandwidth
      M3 Pro's GPU is weak, extra bandwidth over 8GB is useless.
      So you put 8GB onboard.
      And you allow Sodimm extensions for your CPU.
      About onboard storage, there's even not a single technical reason.
      Apple's engineers aren't idiots...but clients could be !
      These choices are made :
      - to sell overpriced storage and ram option...256 extra GB when you should have faster 4TB for the same price ! In my country, extra 256GB at 3000MB/s costs 230€, for 119€ I bought 2TB at 7200Mo/s!
      - to sell you a new device when your new softwares requier more ram...

      Additionally, it's worth noting that the OnePlus or €600 phones with 12GB of RAM can't render 4K video as quickly as a Mac with 8GB of RAM. €600 phone comes with 12GB ram because OS by itself can’t run smoothly with 8GB ram (it lags).

    Imagine blaming intel for their chips overheating when apple are the ones who forgot to put a real cooler in their shit. I mean, they literally had a fan and a heat sink in there that was completely separate from the cpu, and they expected that to work. The only good thing about modern apple stuff is they reminded people that arm is a good architecture.

    • @kernel_inpage_error
      @kernel_inpage_error 6 месяцев назад

      *picking up my Apple hat* Let me explain. Apple Silicon processors are so unnovative and brilliant that they do not need the heatsink with this sticky goo placed between them. We at Apple made a breakthrough by creating a heatsinkless cooling technology. We called it Chiller. It works by transferring the heat to the nearest components and the laptop body, providing you with a much more quiet experience, and also turns the back panel into a portable heater. If the chip feels a bit warm, it uses our innovative Dynamic Power technology to decrease the currency, so it will not be that warm anymore.
      Don't you dare call all these "inefficient passive cooling" and "throttling". Those names are for peasants and x86 dinosaurs. The users of our unnovative Apple products will greatly appreciate the technological advancements we made. Consider trying it out - starting at $1500 for a machine with 8GB innovative unified single-channel RAM.

      @BoraHorzaGobuchul 6 месяцев назад

      Maybe. I have computers running both. As long as you compare apples to apples, i.e. within the generation... In desktops, AMD seems to be ahead on efficiency. In notebooks... Dunno. I generally find recent gen notebooks to be more or less ok. Bought an Intel one recently, was pleasantly surprised how long it stays alive on battery. Wouldn't say it's worse than an AMD I bought shortly before it, rather, it's actually better. Of course, one would have to normalize for battery size, performance, and so on, which I frankly have no desire to do since both notebooks work reasonably well to perform basic notebook things like office/browsing/media playback. Looks pretty much like a tie to me.

The rest of the specifications are very similar: a 60Hz 1080p IPS display, no discrete GPU, plenty of RAM and a large SSD both purchased separately.
      Interestingly, the new laptop runs cooler and lasts longer on battery despite the specs indicating a slightly lower battery capacity, 45 Watt*hours compared to 51 Watt*hours in the old one.

      @soonts 6 месяцев назад

      @@phill6859 Apparently, AMD has an interesting workaround for that issue. They order many chips from TSMC, and initially only sell them to laptop manufacturers. Eventually, after 6-12 months the consumption stabilizes, at which point AMD knows how many mobile chips they need to make. Then they reuse excessive chips in their desktop products.
      They’ve been doing the trick for several generations now, with Renoir Zen 2, Cezanne Zen 3, and most recently Phoenix Zen 4 chips. For instance, mobile Ryzen 7 7840 released in May 2023 and desktop Ryzen 7 8700G released in January 2024 are equivalent chips sold to different markets with different names and packages.

    I work as an embedded software engineer and have never seen a Mac in any of the companies that I have ever worked for. None of the apps that I use for embedded software development are available for a Mac but all are available for x86 windows and x86 Linux. This means that unless I was to become a RUclipsr and need the excellent video editing apps that are available for Macs then a Mac would be no more than a door stop for me.
    I currently use PCs that are around half as fast as an M1 Mac but I make do because Apple chooses not to make their M1/M2/M3 chips available for Windows on Arm computers which would sell very well and for which all of my apps would quickly become available.

    These MacBooks are just scaled up phone hardware. The biggest joke is if the SSD fails the BIOS is gone, the machine is bricked. You can't even boot from USB. Got a new Macbook Pro for work, M2 Pro, 16GB of RAM AGAIN, had that much for the past 4-5 years now on my work laptop, it needs more for working with Docker and development tools. The new machine keeps dropping wifi and won't reconnect. I had to change from using USB-C to my monitor to using HDMI because the new OSX won't detect it on startup unless I replugin the cable. Say what you like about Intel hardware Apple, your own hardware is just as buggy.

    it just doesnt make sense, there are so many things u cant do or do with glitches on the mac that u can on a normal pc
    the comparison will start making sense when the whole software industry move towards arm, right now though, ppl still making x86 windows software, and the the apple chip cant run them without a port, unless u want a glitchy mess
    it just doesnt matter how good an arm chip is on a real pc
    they only good for mobile or embedded devices
