His work seems to have a theme of ending shows with artistic but emotionally charged songs. In his special 'what' he ends with a song called 'we think we know you' that runs on a similar theme. I'd definitely recommend checking that out. All of his stuff honestly 😅
The part where he was talking about himself and the audience wasn't an act. I can't imagine how much courage that took to actually say that. I can't imagine admitting something so open and revealing to the world like that when I have a hard time even telling people what my hobbies are because I feel like I'm going to be judged. Bo is an absolute legend and I have mad respect for him.
you can see that he was shaking during that and I feel like him doing those little sounds before he went into it was him trying to calm himself down and his constant movement is him trying to not let his panic attack show and even those screams really felt like he was breaking down but needed to keep going so he let those out in order to help him keep going
This was the last live performance he released before quitting comedy for like 5 years, since he started having more and more panic attacks and anxiety on stage. Technically he hasn’t come back to live comedy, since Inside isn’t a live special, and he hasn’t performed live anywhere since
Finally a reaction where the person understands the second "Wouldn't've got the lettuce if I knew it wouldn't fit" isn't funny at all; it's rather sad.

@@andrelima4125 Who talked about that attributed metaphor here? Just the way he says he'd better get back to doing his silly show, is sad. It's like putting back a laughing clown mask on his face.
This song is how I realized he wasn’t doing alright. The lines where he says “come and watch the skinny kid with a steadily declining mental health and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself” When you find out about his mental issues he was having, those lyrics just jump right out at you
As a performer myself, the line about "they're just staring at you" gets me. It's amazing how you can spend hours preparing to perform for the people and then instead of them telling you how great you were, they point out the 1 error you made, or what they'd like you to do differently. For someone who already has insecurities like Bo has always dealt with, the criticisms make it harder to perform. It puts additional strain because he doesn't want someone to watch him and be disappointed. The critiques are hard to deal with because they make you want to be perfect and then you end up harder on yourself because you're already your biggest critic, but now you have people pointing out things and you realize you've disappointed someone, so you become harder on yourself. And if you already are insecure, it just builds those insecurities to be bigger and bigger. And I can only imagine how many critics online he has to listen to. It's no wonder he took so much time off. His genius is being wasted because people make it difficult for him to not only perform but to survive.
In retrospect, 5-6 years later this final song was insanely powerful and a seemingly obvious (in hindsight) call for help. During his recent special Inside he speaks about how he was having panic attacks on stage touring for this special, and it took him 5 years of working on himself mentally to feel strong enough to perform live again.
@@Travisb238 agreed, there’s no way it was overlooked. Even if it was unintentional when he started writing about Pringle’s and Chipotle, he absolutely recognized it and connected the dots.

This is one of those things that's good out of context but great in the context of the ending of the full show (Make Happy). All this stuff was bubbling under the surface and this piece really kind of summarized the layers of it, in how the seemingly shallow observational comedy about the hand in the Pringles can and the fillings in the burrito not fitting gradually becomes a metaphor for his own feelings of having bitten off more than he could chew by choosing to become an entertainer when he was kind of too young to understand the weight of it. He metaphorically got his hand stuck in the Pringles can and overstuffed his burrito, if you will, which is why he took a break from performing after this (although he did write and direct a movie called "Eighth Grade" in the interim). I would say Bo Burnham's last three specials are kind of like a trilogy. "What.", "Make Happy" and "Inside". He came up in comedy very young. He started out on RUclips and then did two specials ("Comedy Central Presents: Bo Burnham" and "Words, Words, Words") before turning 20. He's gotten a lot more introspective (and in some ways retrospective) since.
He was literally suffering from a panic attack during this. He went 5 years without performing after this because of panic attacks on stage. I feel once you know this, the whole song hits so much more
Bo’s introspective comedy is genius. The funny is insanely funny and well done…but at no point should anyone think he isn’t talking about himself with talking about burritos and Pringle’s. He tries to bear his soul oh so briefly, but Bo knows the hard part of getting others to pay attention is to make it entertaining. He intertwines the lyrics in such a clever way that if someone isn’t paying attention, they’ll miss it. He even says it at the end “And if they don’t understand you, you run it one more time.” Just watch the beginning of the special. He is going about his day with a clown nose on. People look at him with surface value eyes…but he’s not here for us to share his problems…he’s here to entertain us in a way where we understand our own problems. As we laugh, while he attempts to give us what he cannot give himself.
"look at them, they're just staring at me". it's like he hates it. hates the attention. the opposite of pretty much every famous person ever. he truly is one of a kind.
He’s a complex dude. From the other stuff I’ve seen him talk about and sing about on the subject it seems he actually loves the attention and even says he needs it, but he hates that he needs it.
I'd really love to see you react to Repeat Stuff and Eff, haven't seen many people react to those. Repeat Stuff is a poppy takedown of the music industry, Eff is one of my favprite raps of his (Yes, he does rap too). Bo is always a lyrical genius, but his raps are where he shows that skill the best imo. Many of his faster songs require multiple listenings and lyrical readalongs to get every line, but they're really fun.
I dont accept that that is the ending of the special. That how he ended it to the audience. "Are you happy" is the ending of the special. And heartbreakingly beautiful. He stands up from his music, his room, goes out and sees what makes him happy. Scale from 1 to 2.
There is still a goldmine of Bo Burnham songs you could react to: From his show ''What'': - Sad - Left brain, right brain - From God's perspective - Repeat stuff - We Think We Know You Other songs from ''Make Happy'' (the show this was the finale of): - One I don't really want to spoil the title of lmao but on YT it's uploaded as ''Problem solving song'' - Lower your expectations As far as ''Inside'' goes, just watch the whole thing. Every single song there is genius but arguably the best one is ''Welcome to the internet''.
EVERY SINGLE TIME I watch someone react to this video I wonder if they expect him to circle back to Pringles after the gym comment- because that's what I assumed was going to happen. You're the first one to actually mentioned it! Lol
This probably wasn't the best song to start Bo Burnham with, but good job reacting. You missed some things but that's okay, it was your first time listening.
After many of his performances, he would break down and sob for about 2 hours backstage. I'm glad he's working on his mental health and took a break. It seems he really needed it
That basically was his stand-up, of he ever tours again and you go to a show that's what you can expect. All his stand-up has a heavy theatrical element with well over half of the time in his specials being taken up by songs of some variety of another.
I love reactions that are just people blankly staring at really powerful moments in a song then laughing at really inappropriate moments. Welcome to the Internet.
I think the most impressive part of this aside from the raw honesty, and the fact he quit for 5 years after this is the fact he contols all his auto tune audio himself. Lighting is also excellent, that im sure is handled by a lighting engineer of some sort.
Someone probably already said this, but if you listen to the first half again, it’s actually a sort of veiled metaphor for what he says in the second. The Pringles and burrito are both something which starts off good, but ends up uncomfortable and messy by the end. In a similar way, his career started with him making funny videos in his bedroom, and by the time this was recorded he regularly had panic attacks on stage.
As a bit of info about that song, the "I wouldn't got the peppers if I knew they wouldn't fit, wouldn't got the cheese... " part is actually him talking about his quick rise to celebrity and that if people told him what it would be like and how he'd feel about it he probably wouldn't have done it. Also It's interesting seeing people react to Bo now after Inside came out but had never really seen his stuff before. It's all good though. The more people being exposed to him the better.
The burrito is a metaphor for his quick rise to fame. He just kept taking on thing after thing until he finally realized it was too much. Nobody warned him. By that time he was stuck with what he had. He liked it, but it was destroying him mentally. Every word is intentional and has a deeper meaning, if you look for it.
Just so you know Bo has actually said it’s not, there’s no meaning behind it and he thought it was funny seeing all the theories from people thinking it had some deeper meaning
he didn't perform for 5 years after this to improve himself because he went off stage after performing and had a panic attack, then in 2020 when he decided he was gonna perform again bc he improved himself a lot, covid happened which lead to "all eyes on me".
The burrito is a metaphor for his life, he wouldn't of done this and that if he knew it was going to spill out like his panick disorder, hence he wouldn't of got the lettuce if he knew it wasn't gonna fit, and so on
yeah that's Bo! make sure you react to "all eyes on me" best song from the new special. "art is dead" is also one of his best songs, so you should check it out! great reaction :)
Technically that's not how he ends it. That's how the live show ended. There is a very short outro-song on the special that wasn't part of the live performance. "Are you Happy". It's directed at the viewer and touches on the overarching theme of the edited film (special). I HIGHLY recommend watching the whole special. His comedy has evolved significantly and you can see him grow as an artist and as a person through his specials. His first special was when he was only like 18/19 years old. - Of course, reactions first! but definitely go watch the whole thing afterwords.

He’s a complex dude. From the other stuff I’ve seen him talk about and sing about on the subject it seems he actually loves the attention and even says he needs it, but he hates that he needs it.
Although this was 2 months ago, I love watching people discover Bo Burnham! Great reaction keep it up! 🤙🏻💯
Scale from 1 to 2.
this moment is basically the mental breakdown he references to in all eyes on me in his other special
There is still a goldmine of Bo Burnham songs you could react to:
From his show ''What'':
- Sad
- Left brain, right brain
- From God's perspective
- Repeat stuff
- We Think We Know You
Other songs from ''Make Happy'' (the show this was the finale of):
- One I don't really want to spoil the title of lmao but on YT it's uploaded as ''Problem solving song''
- Lower your expectations
As far as ''Inside'' goes, just watch the whole thing. Every single song there is genius but arguably the best one is ''Welcome to the internet''.
So much can be said about this but I'll sum it up in 2 words. Fucking genius
Yes! Do Bo Burnhams “rant.”
Please keep watching Bo! Can’t wait for more :)
After many of his performances, he would break down and sob for about 2 hours backstage. I'm glad he's working on his mental health and took a break. It seems he really needed it
His screams at the end are his panick attacks on stage
As a musician that gets held back by mental issues you got to love Bo. Absolute Genius & Legend
Tunnel vision I guess l..all the meaning of this performance just flew by their heads while I’m over here trying to recover from what he said
I hope you aren’t one of the people who think the burrito was a metaphor, because Bo himself said they were not metaphors
@@stargazer1998 I’m talking about the straight forward meaningful stuff he says in the back third
@@554cortez ah, okay
You should also check out his full special make happy and/or inside
Love your reaction! Subscribed!
Yes definitely watch more Bo! His new stuff is great and his old stuff too. Super funny and also super artistic and talented.
You started with the song he quit comedy with! Glad to see you react to him, but this song is very contextual.
You gotta go through his entire discography, stuff from what. and then Make Happy and then do the stuff from Inside.
It's all incredible.
Purely powerful performances from this man.
You should try to find the VERY end of that show where he sings “Make Happy” one of the best songs no one reacts to
Bo just uploaded a video that is pretty much a sequel to this song called All Eyes On Me
That was so damn good. Like funny bits but clearly deep as fuck.
No it isn’t. He said they weren’t metaphors
@@stargazer1998 so what you're saying is that we'll never know for sure?
In the actual special there is one last song that is played which is very deep as well.
"I hope you're happy" (I hope something good has come from all of my suffering. I hope everything I've put myself through has had some meaning to you)
It has now after "inside" come out that during this performance he was having a panic attack and went off stage and cried himself silly.
I was not prepared for these feels
I love your reaction. Subbed
Left Brain Right Brain live is incredible!!! Do that one!!
That moment where the crowd gets the meaning... Oh man goosies
The burrito part is so sad on the 2nd listen
Can't wait to see you react to his All Eyes On Me song
Girl, you gotta do White Women Instagram by Bo, with that wall decoration you've got back that there lol
He said they weren’t metaphors
he didn't perform for 5 years after this to improve himself because he went off stage after performing and had a panic attack, then in 2020 when he decided he was gonna perform again bc he improved himself a lot, covid happened which lead to "all eyes on me".
Existential crisis starting at 6:22.
Hey Ellie, can you react to Nf- "leave me alone", and "I miss the days"? You're gonna absolutely love that.
I literally just heard that for the first time. It ended about 2 minutes ago. Fun!
If you liked this you will love his new Netflix special "Inside"
Hi Ellie, I think you had the youtube video and your webcam video out a sync a little on this one. Sounded like you were reacting to the lines before they had actually happened.
If you want some more context you should check out "All Eyes On Me" from his new special Inside. It is mega-powerful.
