Don’t let him lie to you. He’s actually recording everything in real time and he built this whole thing in 23 minutes.
Lol
Totally dude, they just moved really fast...
It's that energy drink he cracked ;)
he surely changed fast his clothes
And smoking a joint behind the camera! I love this guy
You know why you're so successful Colt ? Coz apart from being talented and knowledgable af, you're just the nicest and humblest guy ever bro. Life rewards hugely people like you. God bless!
life goals. that's allI want for my future: A family, a dog, and a home studio like that, making music for a living. That's what I'm going to do, don't know how, but I'll find out.
just put it out to the universe dude
@TacoTacoTacoTaco Exactly 👍
People obviously love to live in delusions, working and having a realistic plan is how you need to behave.
My favourite part is the end when the family is in there helping. Precision work man. great job
It's really satisfying how the camera audio keeps getting better as he builds his studio
Epic build! 🔥
Thanks!!
Hi Paul
Nice build yourself!
@@ColtCapperrune QUESTION: I am about to build panels using the same insulation and guilford of maine fabric. From your research/experience, does it seem like that fabric traps any super small pieces of insulation from coming out? I may be over thinking any health concerns like that. Thanks!!!!
Indeed Epic Build! Freaking awesome job on the walls! Didn't know about that fabric stuff... will definitely check those links/sites. Thanks for sharing.
all this, and i still can't afford fl studio...
edit: BTW I just got Fl Studio Producer Editon as a birthday gift from my grandpa. Thanks grandpa!
How's it going?
Don't feel bad. I went to Juilliard as a scholarship student for six years and studied film scoring in a high level university program in LA. I've never made a dime from music for 30 YEARS, except for a few peanuts years ago teaching some private lessons. I am almost 50 but never owned a car, house, or any major asset. I have owned one dress shirt for the past 10 years with the rest of my wardrobe being plain t shirts with two pairs of running pants and a pair of shorts. Other than my primary instrument, I own no music gear, not even a keyboard.
There are a lot of scum involved in the industry that unfairly block people out as much as they possibly can. I have seen it happen to my close friends as well. Anyone who wants to get into the music industry needs their fucking head examined because they never listen to the guys who were actually in the trenches.
@@billyhill7132 brother I feel so sorry for you. I too was black balled in the industry cause a bitch with power wanted me but I didn't want her so...BUT...I have made this my living for the past 40 years and I'm so happy cause I'm doing what I love. The business ain't easy but you can make a bit of money if you market right, get a decent crew of talented people around you and keep your skills sharp.
this comment made me smile! all the best to you Tyrell!
Start low and every time you get higher it's gonna be awesome, I just got a laptop and ableton from a friend and every little upgrade I do leaves me wanting more.
This is so inspiring bro!! I love the fact that your a family man and you have done 90% of the work all yourself!! I give you the iron man award for best engineer!!!
This is beyond amazing. I have no idea how you did this mostly by yourself. Studio looks amazing. I'm at loss of words!
After countless days and hours of trying to figure out how to reduce reverberation in my bungalow’s 1950 attic space with knee wall set ups and existing drywall installation I finally figured out how to solve the issue thanks to you man! My neighbors can hear us every time we make sound impact sounds such as dropping objects or hitting the wall and I was literally losing my mind. You are a life saver. Much appreciated!!
Good god dude. I hope you don’t leave this place for another 10 years lol that was a lot of work and you did it all yourself, hats off to you my man
John Karen Thanks man! This is definitely a 10 year plus plan LOL
I'm truly impressed & inspired! My space has been unfinished since building our home in 2013. I've focused more on the collection of pro gear in these years since. During 2020 shutdown, I've started looking for finishing ideas. I love the passion in the details of planning and execution! I'm simply blown away & need some of this creativity in my LIFE!
The fact you did it all by yourself is just amazing! Keep it up G. :)
Absolutely. I know from my own experience how difficult that is...
Very awesome studio! It's great to hear that you found a place to build and didn't have to pay those crazy Nashville real estate costs. Watching this video has inspired me to remodel my home studio this coming Spring/Summer.
the joys of being american and having large houses. I'd kill for a room space that size.
killing for a room, nice man.
@@crmfrsh And with a smiley ( check the avatar.. :) )
@Chad Gillihan with so many countries in America is not that exclusive to have large houses tho.
Future Ex wife will get it all in the divorce eventually, Only a matter of time lol
Or the joys of having a well-paying occupation/working hard.
I always ask myself who are these people who dislike this kind of great video content? I mean this is really ridiculous. Colt have put some insane time in this project, thousands of hours work, show his great and inspirational results and then he gets dislikes...what is wrong with these folks??!
jlx_music they’re jealous know-it-alls who don’t have the knowledge, discipline, or patience to do this themself 🤟
Insane DIY skills man. It looks clean AF
Hello really appreciate that!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Very nice work. My only thought was why the electrical outlets were installed upside down with the ground on the top instead of the bottom. But I suppose there’s no right or wrong way and maybe that’s your preference. I’ve always seen the ground on the bottom. Amazing work though man.
Agree 100%
this guys mindset and motivation is mindblowing
I love when your little tike is cruising around while your working... reminds me of 10 year ago me!!!
Sam Knaak That was a great moment man! Possibly my favorite of the entire process!
@@ColtCapperrune I am just waiting for the moment you are working and the little one is strolling around casually pushing some buttons and you getting a lightbulb moment: "That sounds good......."

YOU'RE A BIG LAD !
THIS OF COURSE IS NOT THE LIMIT OF TOPS YET ... BUT THE MAIN THING IS YOUR DIFFERENCE AND DESIRE!
SMART! VERY HEALTHY!!!
I'm stunned !!!!! Greatest video !!! Super jealous, I mean not only the studio knowledge but the workmen and craftsmanship should also be recognized!!! The best video !!!
To your point, starting out with the right space is key. When investing all that time and money you want be sure you are working with a good location that will make it all worth the effort. I admire your tenacity, and attention to detail. This was no small task from design to finish, for someone to do primarily on their own. Great job!
Forget music. Construction is where you belong .. for real though fantastic work!
He should sell that service for home studios! really nice job
For real! Honestly you should be doing this for a living. Constructing ppl studios!
To say that you are multi-talented would be quite the understatement!

Watching you flatten out that fabric was sooooo satisfying. Great job man
It's amazing how people like to belittle someone doing something this awesome. congrats man. Big move and topnotch work and craftsmanship. Good luck with your future ventures.
Matteo Guastamacchio appreciate it!
All this fantastic studio work should not distract us from the fact your video making and editing skills are next level!
I watched it from start to end. Great studio and learned a lot of things. Thank you very much for sharing this video 👍
The thing about mixing producers channel - Each sound and music sounds Exactly how it should sound! Epic!!
Congrats dude. I enjoyed your journey on this one.
Like you, i am contemplating if i need to build a separate booth as well.
Anyway, i love your studio.
Oswald PH Really appreciate it! Yeah, I’m having a pretty hard time deciding whether or not to put a booth in. It would take away a lot of the openness of the room. But it would be nice to be able to have someone in there Recording and not have to be on headphones. We will see what happens. Thanks for watching!
@@ColtCapperrune Could you have moveable gobos that live in the lounge and roll in?
I am a fan of him because of his hard work. Respect
This is one of the best videos I've ever seen about this kind of content. Love what you've done so far, man, and I admire you for this courage of building everything from scratch. Huge inspiration for me, thank you so much for sharing your process! Best of luck, my man!
Rafael de Sousa Really appreciate that! I’ve kind of always had to do everything myself, no way I could have afforded this build if I was hiring someone to build it for me. Thanks for watching!
nice bro it reminded of me when I was you age building my first studio after marriage, kids and all. wonderful trip down memory lane. all the kids are in college now, these will be you r best and most motivating years. boy do I have stories and you will too. congrats!!!
This is definitely studio goals!
I am totally floored how you managed to DIY everything yourself. This is pure dedication and effort right here! I dream of having a dedicated home studio someday as well!
This was so much fun to watch, learned a lot too.
That room had a solid two seconds of reverberation ! WoW . . . oW . . . ow . . . ow ! ~ Good job with the deadening project !
Great job. I miss the wooden slats and color scheme of the old place, but this looks like such a pro setup. Congrats.
Alex Breyer appreciate it! I was really ready to move away from the dark color/red color scheme. And actually that blue color that was in my old room was not at all my favorite thing. But the wood panels did look pretty sweet in the old room. This room is definitely far more pro. Thanks so much for watching!
The wall treatment is a really elegant solution. It looks terrific. You have a great room for your studio.
Wow , an Awesome Studio!!!!
Colt, congratulations on your home studio and it looks great. You with this video lesson are sure to encourage thousands just like me to build their own studio. You have earned one more subscriber to your channel. I write you from Brazil and set up a home studio for me but still in a simple and improvised way, but after watching your video I will improve my home studio.
Gratitude Colt.
A hug from Brazil.
Dude!! You're a MONSTER!!!!!
David Cottrell haha thanks so much man!
So, I was doing the boring work of building out my CRM for a shift in my studio business and my choices were, binge watch a tv show, gaming or sleeping. Man, listen. When your video popped up on my recommended watch list (yes I subscribed and hit the bell), my interest was piqued and brother... The best 35:07 of my professional life! My new mindset this year was to watch or do something that I'd learn something from and my head hurts from how much I learned. Thanks for sharing this video and the extra info in the description. Looking forward to more of your videos and content! I'm inspired now to stop settling for the way my room sounds and get it 1000% where I desire it to be. Happy listening, bro!!!
Oh man, don’t mess with the booth. I bet you could do other things with the space that would add a more unique sonic signature to your portfolio. But I guess that depends on preference, and what you’re tracking there. If it’s just vocals and overdubs...
Fabricate movable gobos that are taller (6ft) and clamp down with those to control the room ambience. Tony Maserati has a good video on the MWTM platform that touches on reasons for not doing vocals in a booth, and I agree with him. I like a little ambience in the vocal, and booths just sound so...lifeless. Even the iso rooms at Blackbird don’t feel like booths, right? I guess it depends on how big your booth would be, etc. Excited to see the next phase, and how it carries into the work. ✋🏻
Awesome studio space! Blown away that you could build for less than buy!
Whenever I see how Americans make an electrical system, I get goosebumps.
Great video, such craftsmanship and know how.
“Color frequencies” is actually a pretty accurate way to describe it 🤷🏼♂️ lol And this is honestly one of the nicest home studio projects I’ve ever seen, and for all the work you put in, I’d say you earned it! 😳😬😂 Congrats!
yobhsiFehT hahaha Sometimes the thoughts in my head aren’t accurately represented by the words that come out of my mouth LMAO! Thanks so much!
Colt Capperrune lol No worries! But I promise you, if you look up different ways light and color are measured, you’ll be pleasantly surprised 😉😜😄
"color frequencies"? Are you kidding me?
How come you didn't do measurements before you decided what materials to use? Mineral wool is horrible. It wasn't designed for room treatment, it doesn't do squat in the low frequencies.
Also, what's your room dimensions?
As far as low frequency absorption, for 100hz and lower you need pressure activated devices and you need LOTS of coverage since low frequency issues in any small room is going to be everywhere since low frequencies are omni directional. And you need two different types of devices. Tuned for the locations where there are modal issues and broadband in between. And you need a LOT of them. Diaphramatic are considered the best and most effective, just using limp mass will NOT go after the low frequencies, especially in the 50hz and lower. Also, quadratic diffusion will help make your room sound bigger without nasty reverberations/slap back echo.
Also, mineral wool is highly toxic, wasn't designed for room treatment and it's commonly used because it's cheap, but it's not the best for absorption, especially between 125hz and 500hz. It tends to over absorb in that range.
I'm not trying to rain on your parade, I'm just trying to pass on some good information that I've learned from others that actually have designed, built high end rooms that have also done extensive R&D into room treatment and various materials commonly used and development of better products that are available.
Also, you need a respirator when dealing with that mineral wool crap and covering it with fabric isn't going to prevent toxic particles becoming airborne.
Oneness100 I talked extensively about the dimensions in the video. It’s no more or less toxic than 703, or 705. This is 8 pound density mineral wool, and when you look at the actual numbers it basically mimics 705 in performance. Thanks for your comment though.
@@ColtCapperrune I wouldn't use ANY building insulation for room treatment. Mineral wool, corning 700 series, etc. is all toxic and none of it is actually designed for acoustic treatment for music and speech. It was designed for insulation for wall construction where it's hidden and contained in between the walls. But it's highly toxic stuff and respirators, gloves, etc. should be worn when handling it, otherwise you are breathing in tiny particles that are not organic that can cause lung diseases. Fabric isn't enough to contain those toxic particles from becoming airborne. I hope you have some pretty intense Hospital grade Hepa Filtration on the list to add to the room if you decide to keep it.
I've used 703 and it's just as bad. It over absorbs in that 125hz to 500hz and it doesn't make the room sound natural. Obviously, you are using near field monitors and you have plenty of room between the speakers and each wall, which is good. But for tracking instruments? That's a different story. It seems like you are trying to make one room do it all and it isn't going to do everything well.
Have you gone around the room and done sine wave measurements to see where the room modes are?
Measure 20hz to 100hz in 10 hz increments about every 2 to 3 feet around the perimeter of the room. You should see differences and where there is a higher amplitude of different frequencies, that's where the room modes are and at what frequency and how much of an issue you have. 24ft by 26ft is almost a square, which are typically bad room dimensions. But you have those slanted walls, which change reflections. Have you done any RT60 measurements?
I stay away from building insulation as room treatment. It was never designed for that application. The problem is the industry has accepted it because it's cheap and until recently, that's all that was available and I understand why people use it, but there are acoustic foams available that do have a much smoother absorption coefficient curve, especially in that 125hz to 500hz and it makes a HUGE difference, especially with lots of coverage.
For low frequencies, diaphragmatic absorption is the best. There's a company that makes the best stuff on the market and they even sell their designs to make your own, so you can save money and you just buy their activated carbon filters which go inside the cabinet which are specifically designed for low frequency absorption that will go after the 30hz to 50hz range and they are more effective than anything else on the market. I suggest checking them out, especially if you are going to track instruments in that same room..
I would also consult with that company, which is free by the way, and they will give you the best strategy for improving the room for the various applications that you are using it for. A control room is one application, tracking vocals is another, tracking instruments is another. Each should be considered in the acoustic treatment strategy.
Brother.....You are truly an INSPIRATION. Watching you do the awesome construction of your Studio proves to me that you can do anything you truly have the desire to do. God Bless you and all of your endeavors. I will follow your musical journey. I am now a fan. Thank you for sharing this incredible journey. All The Best Colt!!!
"Color frequencies" works. Light works on wavelengths just like sound.
Nice build! Thanks for taking all that time to make this video.
With a room this size, about how much did the room cost to put together? Not including building the room or the gear, just the treatment and aesthetics.
Aye my guy, you totally rock. Congrats on your accomplishments of building a new home, from the ground up, while building the studio.
Now all you need are artists who can write music people want to hear.
Jeff Boyd I’m pretty fortunate at this stage in my career that I don’t really have problems with that. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for taking the extra time to film it all and sharing. Can't wait to see the final details (desk, booth?, etc.)
Dude this is amazing, go ahead and get rich doing that for other people.
Diego Oliveira haha thanks so much!
@@ColtCapperrune You just spent all that time and money on that room and you left the $0.39 cent light switches instead of putting rocker style or something other than those cheap looking things?...lol...This is when you install the upgrades while it's during the build...Nice studio Colt...Great job when it was only you doing the build
M Hunter I wonder how many clients will walk in and decide not to work with me because of my outlet plates 😂😂😂 Thanks 🙏🏻
I don't know if it is intentional or unintentional, but I like the fact that you are using "side racks" for your gear instead of it mounted underneath your screens. You see a lot of desks for sale with those 19" slots underneath the screens which is kind of a easy to reach a logical choice, but I find the screens being too high super uncomfortable to use. So I wanted to my desk which I will build a bit like yours, with both racks to the side. The downside of it is, that the gear is not as convenient to reach, but at least the screens are on eye height :)
Thanks Brother :)
Thanks for watching!
Wow! You are an incredible young man. GREAT JOB!!!
why the panel on the ceiling without an absorber?

theoretically "color frequencies" is not wrong hahaha
Was about to say the same thing.
Looks great Colt. Congrats on your less new studio. Hope your safely enjoying during La Corona. I am not going to go through all 1000 plus comments but wanted to comment for others and for you Colt,.... that the solution for the electrical outlets is to use "gang box extenders" and please tape those terminal screws, if you haven't already. tucked fabric and exposed elec. do not mix. also, the LED lights and buzzing may have to do with the controller/switch combination. Google finding the right with for your recessed LEDs". Good luck! Also, just want to I am not the most knowledgable of all stretch fabric wall systems. However, I have and continue to producing drawings for installers, architects and general contractors for high end clients. (Harvard/MIT/Berklee , yes that Berkelee) Fabric-Wall is likely a reseller of the track. there are really only a few fabric track manuf. and they are not all created equal. Guilford of Maine, as weird as it sounds, is THE industry standard. sure there is Carnegie and Maharam, but Guilford of Maine is the right price point. Good luck to you all and happy studio building!
Do you have any issues with the reflections off the windows?
T.S.A Ent not at all for mixing. The hardwood, stone , and window keeps the room from being to dead with 100% absorption elsewhere
Oh dear what a job, you're a pro man. Respect. You can do so much on your own. WoOp !

Best video I've seen this week. Props to you for all the effort and for sharing!
Did I miss the part where he mentions the huge window? That window is just a massive hole in what's supposed to be isolated, am I wrong?
its directly behind the monitors, which usually needs very minor sound treatment, if any. considering most of the rest of the room is covered i doubt it makes as much of a difference and having the natural light is lw cool.
I was just looking to see if anyone else saw this......the window wont hurt him until he fires a mic up and a car goes by..lol..the rock wool is for acoustics but helps with isolation much better than insulation...
Great work! When you talk about your guitar it’s hilarious, I think you keep saying “we” because of her
I just like this video playing in the background like "fireplace at home."
Man, you did so much sooo much work , and it worth it! congrats!
