Released a stranded octopus that got stuck on the sand when the tide went out in the shallow water. After recovering, the octopus moved towards my left booties and placed one of its tentacles on my booties for some time before moving off.
Octopus have 3 hearts, this one gave you one.
It only needs two to fight Ganon. What a flex.
Really sweet.

i remember reading an interview with a guy that had an octopus in an aquarium. he recounted a story of him feeding his octopus with some shrimp one day (dead shrimp of course) and sitting down to read. after a few minutes something plopped on the table. turned out to be a slightly spoiled shrimp. when he looked over the octopus was making its way back to its aquarium to eat.
a few things to take note of.
1) the octopus clearly was able to escape any time but chose not to. most likely because food was being delivered to it and safety couldnt be higher.
2) it sorted through its pile of food and instantly located a less than good shrimp.
3) it broke out of its tank to litterally throw the spoiled food at its caretaker, clearly showing the emotion "spite" and the abstract thinking of knowing that the strange 2 legged one living outside water was feeding it.
4) the fact that it simply crawled back in its tank to munch away afterwards shows that the sole reason for it to leave the tank to begin with, was to spite the 2 legged one that dared bring it spoiled food.
this is a level of intelligence usually only credited to humans. imagine if we could give them the chance to talk

Yes it did thank you. I know of another person who had the same experience. She worked at the Monterey Bay aquarium and was releasing an octopus in the bay that they had held captive for several years. As she released it, it came over to her and put one tentacle on her arm and looked straight at her for a long moment before swimming off.

He was in truly dire need! That urled up posture is trying to keep moisture inside the mantle, and comes just before death by asphyxiation. As you can imagine the headache is tremendous!
When returned to the water, you see the bubbles come from the mantle, has suddenly a rush of Life Giving water returns to his gills.
Then for a minute or so he's a bit dizzy and woozy, and his color goes pale with the oxygen Rush.
Then slowly as he gets his 💩 together, is natural chromatophoric skin begins to work again, and his health slowly returns.
You bet, if my head was stuck in a plastic bag and I was suffocating, I would certainly be grateful for the person who tore a big hole in the bag.
Whoever it was that saved the octopus, great job!... you deserve that love and kindness!
You know what you're talking about - surely, this is misleading? Maybe the octopus was checking the guy out rather than thanking him? His slowness, which looks like gratitude and graciousness, resulting from his recovery?

That's quite something. I remember watching "My Octopus Teacher" on netflix a few months back. It said octopus are extremely shy and curious, and for them to move towards you without fear means you've gained a very high level of trust. In a sense that they feel safe enough to come up to you and explore you without the fear of death.

Reminds me of a video I saw where a small octopus reached out a tentacle to touch an outstretched human index finger, like the creation image in the Sistine Chapel. Only once it made contact, the octopus pulled back, apparently sensing just how *big* a creature it was in the presence of.

I love how you can see the color come back to him as he comes back to life.
It might have been his emotional state recovering.
It was more so that he was still in “I might be in danger” mode and was using his ability to camouflage himself for safety, which is a well known and observed behavior of octopus - and then when he realized he wasn’t in any danger he reverted back to a normal color.
What ever it was he was charging up.

They really are, apparently an octopus at a lab where they were conducting research figured out the guards schedule, and whenever he would leave it would get out of its caga/aquarium and open the other ones to eat the fish. It would then return before the guard noticed. The scientists were baffled as to where the fish went thinking they were stolen.
Perhaps, or just exploring its environment like they do, since his boot was different than its surroundings. It really is difficult to know how a creature like that thinks, without projecting human qualities onto it. Regardless, it is a nice video.

So incredibly touching and beautiful. You could see how distressed he was, it took a few minutes for him to regain his strength. This--this shows animals are not "things" under man's domain. They are living, breathing caring sentient beings that form relationships.
