My pet skunk decided I was his mother, and I found him palling around with toads and crabs, clearly assuming every thing he met would be totally unlike him, not that he ever looked in a mirror. I found him quite sensitive and smart.
I thought I saved the chicken that was being abandoned but it was her who saved me. I was so sad when she passed away because We had a connection there. I was so bonded with her. Our relationship is special. ❤️
Such a moving film! Watching Craig shift emotionally as he allows himself to be intimate with nature through the octopus relationship is heart opening.
In 59 years and every relationship I’ve had with another species, I’ve come to realize that animals have a conscience and experience emotion! It may not be at the same level or intensity that we experience, but there is no doubt in my mind that they are intelligent creatures who have evolved and existed much longer than Homo sapiens. We have a lot to learn.
husband & I watched the documentary and cried like babies - it was so beautiful and you can't help but to fall in love w/ her and all the beauty in her environment and realizing how fragile we all are w/o our healthy planet and we're on a destructive trajectory and will destroy all the beauty on this planet as we destroy ourselves - it opened our eyes and hearts on a whole new level of conservation

Really wish human beings could love this way. From the beginning, human beings allow other human beings to be mistreated, murdered, and subjugated. I hope there is never a world built like this again. War and death all over the globe due to white supremacy/ racism. Who built nuclear bombs ? Who continues to grow and sell drugs on a mass level? Who started capitalism ? Hint - not your average citizen. Anyway , just my two cents.

Nor do I find it is in any way the equal to what others have had to suffer through. But it is sloppy thinking and inherently racist by definition to condemn all people of one race to such a damning conclusion. It ignores that there have always been those who vigorously opposed the racist majority of the past, and whose constant pressure for equality was ultimately successful, although apparently unappreciated by many.
After seeing the film, I now have an almost Pavlovian response to cry, even just talking about it. This wonderful creature is now swimming fluidly in my meditations. She's my inspiration.

This creature became a star by accident or opportunity, but she changed the world by unconsciously being exactly what she was. And it was so beautiful, it has changed how we see her species. If humans could see the beauty in themselves, could we change how we see our species?
The film is amazing. I fell in love with the little octopus - cheering her escapes and (spoiler alert), tearing up over her passing. I look at marine animals completely differently now. Extraordinary film.
I fell in love with her too! One thing I learned from her is a reminder to include playing in my daily life. Just like when she was laying at the button of the ocean and playing with the fish around her.
I played with an octopus for about 40 minutes once, but I soon realized that it was playing with me. It was so curious (and not just to find out if I was some kind of food) - it really seemed like it was having fun (just interacting with me - sensing my intentions). That short encounter is something I will always remember (and appreciate). And just like Craig here, I too quickly formed an attachment to this little guy (which was about the same size as the octopus in this clip).
It takes a Special Human, to understand another animals boundaries, see their perspective, on their level, and obtain their acceptance👍🏼💕 Phenomenal!❤️
I see octopus dead in grocery shelves and it makes me sad and angry how humans reduce other living beings to “products” to be consumed, often killed with cruelty.
I didn’t know this existed and just happen to see this on Netflix last night !! Phenomenal!!! Came to RUclips to see if something about the documentary was on here !! There’s no doubt I could feel her emotional connection to him … never seen anythg like this !! Laughing and crying during the experience of their relationship!! So thankful this was done for all to see !! That first touch was breathtakingly beautiful and surreal !! She’s obviously very emotionally mature .. I am amazed they have the capability!! wow. This film was one of the best I have ever experienced. I still think about it--although I saw it when it first was shown in Netflix. For the first time, I re-watched a documentary--and will see it again. I haved snorkeled in Red Sea coral reefs, and it is amazing, but somehow this film gave me a new perspective--of new facts, the dramatic stories, and in its reality: filmed close up and from a distance--I was there, with them. Beautifully made, it almost haunts me. Thank you so much, program makers, for the opportunity to gain more understanding. I also love the way Hari interviews, with intelligent sympathy.
Those who know have known for some time that cephalopods have intelligence and insight beyond any other creatures. We must respect them (and never, ever eat them!)

It’s in the movie but I think the most powerful part was that it taught Craig (and the rest of us vicariously through him) to be a part of nature and NOT as humans so typically do, as a spectator. I watched the movie with my 11 y/o son and it was a great experience 👍
I absolutely enjoyed watching this documentary. The emotional connection that he shared with an animal that only lived for a little over a year was something I never thought I needed to see, but I did. To see the level of emotion coming from this man was much needed in an emotionally unavailable male world where emotion is considered a weakness or impractical. It was so moving and gave me hope for our future.
I feel so sorry for the newsman, when he asked "Do you remember that?" ; referring to the first physical contact with the octopus. Sir, I hope someday you also recieve the gift of a close, wild animal contact. I have had it happen 5 times with 5 seperate animals in my life and I can describe each one like it was yesterday.
This is life healing life, life teaching life. Beautiful example of what's all around us but that it may take a breakdown before we are ready to open our minds, hearts, and lungs in this case -- to learning how to live differently in a natural environment. How about every other country? I'm vegan and don't eat any type of animal. But octopus is definitely on a lot of menus in America and many other places. Let's agree ALL animals: mammals, fish, birds, are sentient, feel pain, and deserve to live their life without the torture, exploitation, pain and subjugation that we believe we are entitled to impose. Please seriously consider exploring a vegan diet, for your health, the health of the animals and the planet. Suffering needs not be an ingredient in a delicious diet!
Especially alive all around. They are trying to farm them like in fisheries but they kill each other so in a way thats good because its a pity entrapping highly intelligent animals which will suffer. I know with mammals, the stress creates toxins and free radicals and thats what we put in our bodies
I hope you and all those who gave a thumbs up are vegan because otherwise it's kinda hypocritical. The way people eat cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, aren't they all sentient, feeling animals as well? Why is it only the people of Japan? The whole world exploits and force animals into suffering and torture for what's not even essential. This is a fantastic documentary. I was so emotional during this movie. It's a love story, so respectful of one another, Craig and this octopus. We are all connected to each other!!! We need to be reminded often; we become better earth inhabitants, and our personal relationships are so enriched.
One of the best documentaries I've ever seen. Foster put a voice behind this little creatures, letting us learn step by step their amazing life that that in the end the female's role of scarifying herself to promote their species.

This was an incredibly beautiful movie. Not just because of the underwater footage, but because of the magical story between this patient, observant filmmaker and his unusual new friend. It was a revelation! Deeply moving.
We as humans need this type of documentary. We need to understand and we constantly need to be reminded that this earth is not ours for the taking but it’s a place we need to share with the other live beings that exist and we need to respect this. We forget it too easily. We are taking everything, we are ruining and destroying everything for the sake of greed, ego and technology advancement.
One of my all time favorite documentaries! I thought from the show that those types only live for a year? And this talks about filming her over 8 years?
Life span is three years. I imagine they gathered a lot of supporting footage over the eight years. Most documentaries, especially nature docs, do not assemble footage in a strict timeline. I describe them as being truthful, if not strictly accurate. Footage from different times is assembled to tell a truthful story
Interesting observation, though a curiosity. I trust Craig and director Pippa she was the one octopus he had that unique relationship with. MAKING of films you must remember, has much to do with the writing, producing, money, shaping in editing, and post-production. Recall, as they said, those many discussions and angles whether they were going to attach it to one biodiversity cause or not? ALL of it took 8 years!! ANd no wonder, if you think what a fabulously crafted and visually stunning story the film tells!
So here we are, a part of the great mind of Mother Earth, increasing our awareness of the greater Self, and finally moving toward affecting the change in our collective attitude that may allow us and our fellow creatures, plants, fungi, and microbes to survive and thrive-- before we destroy the whole of life on Earth as we know it. These people are noble leaders, and I’m deeply thankful for their dedication to our survival.
Coincidentally the octopus has always been my favorite sea creature. This documentary was an absolute privilege to watch and marvelously done. The story was heartfelt and definitely made an impact on my respect for all animal's large and small. The only animal that should be feared are humans. We are a savage species with that kills for enjoyment and sport, how sad😞
Such an interesting perspective on these sea animals. Craig is undeniably an amazing human being to develop such amazing bond with creature of the sea and he’s also such great story teller with calm and soothing voice. His kids must love story time with Dad. Excellent documentary.
Just finished it on Netflix. I cried. How beautiful. And felt so many emotions for that little octopi. ☹️ What I took from this is every animal contributes to nature in some way. Keeps the world alive. Very fragile the earth is. Made me wonder, what are humans contributing? 🤔

I completely understand Craigs mindset . 15 years ago I was accepted into the world of a pair of Peregrine Falcons as they raised 4 chicks and it was TRULY AMAZING ! I will keep that as one of , if not the most , cherished memories of my life !

Beautiful example of what's all around us but that it may take a breakdown before we are ready to open our minds, hearts, and lungs in this case -- to learning how to live differently in a natural environment. How about every other country? I'm vegan and don't eat any type of animal. But octopus is definitely on a lot of menus in America and many other places. Let's agree ALL animals: mammals, fish, birds, are sentient, feel pain, and deserve to live their life without the torture, exploitation, pain and subjugation that we believe we are entitled to impose. Please seriously consider exploring a vegan diet, for your health, the health of the animals and the planet. Suffering needs not be an ingredient in a delicious diet!
Especially alive all around. They are trying to farm them like in fisheries but they kill each other so in a way thats good because its a pity entrapping highly intelligent animals which will suffer. I know with mammals, the stress creates toxins and free radicals and thats what we put in our bodies
I hope you and all those who gave a thumbs up are vegan because otherwise it's kinda hypocritical. The way people eat cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, aren't they all sentient, feeling animals as well? Why is it only the people of Japan? The whole world exploits and force animals into suffering and torture for what's not even essential. If you can accept that it's hypocritical and acknowledge the suffering behind, then sure, keep eating meat.

This is a fantastic documentary. I was so emotional during this movie. It's a love story, so respectful of one another, Craig and this octopus. We are all connected to each other!!! We need to be reminded often; we become better earth inhabitants, and our personal relationships are so enriched.
Loved this documentary movie so much. It laid bare the emotions that most of us do not get to experience in the marine world. Beautiful!

One of the best documentaries I've ever seen. Foster put a voice behind this little creatures, letting us learn step by step their amazing life that that in the end the female's role of scarifying herself to promote their species.

This was the best documentary. Loved it and had many emotions throughout and I cried like a baby when she died. Broke me in that moment. So inspiring. They are absolutely amazing creatures ❤❤❤😢😢😢
I cried like a baby throughout the film especially at the end. You would of thought my mother died the way I was carrying on. It hit me so deep, such a touching documentary, I really enjoyed this💛💛
This was an incredibly beautiful movie. Not just because of the underwater footage, but because of the magical story between this patient, observant filmmaker and his unusual new friend. It was a revelation! Deeply moving.

We as humans need this type of documentary. We need to understand and we constantly need to be reminded that this earth is not ours for the taking but it’s a place we need to share with the other live beings that exist and we need to respect this. We forget it too easily. We are taking everything, we are ruining and destroying everything for the sake of greed, ego and technology advancement.
One of my all time favorite documentaries! I thought from the show that those types only live for a year? And this talks about filming her over 8 years?
Life span is three years. I imagine they gathered a lot of supporting footage over the eight years. Most documentaries, especially nature docs, do not assemble footage in a strict timeline. I describe them as being truthful, if not strictly accurate. Footage from different times is assembled to tell a truthful story
Interesting observation, though a curiosity. I trust Craig and director Pippa she was the one octopus he had that unique relationship with. MAKING of films you must remember, has much to do with the writing, producing, money, shaping in editing, and post-production. Recall, as they said, those many discussions and angles whether they were going to attach it to one biodiversity cause or not? ALL of it took 8 years!! ANd no wonder, if you think what a fabulously crafted and visually stunning story the film tells!
So here we are, a part of the great mind of Mother Earth, increasing our awareness of the greater Self, and finally moving toward affecting the change in our collective attitude that may allow us and our fellow creatures, plants, fungi, and microbes to survive and thrive-- before we destroy the whole of life on Earth as we know it. These people are noble leaders, and I’m deeply thankful for their dedication to our survival.

Coincidentally the octopus has always been my favorite sea creature. This documentary was an absolute privilege to watch and marvelously done. The story was heartfelt and definitely made an impact on my respect for all animal's large and small. The only animal that should be feared are humans. We are a savage species with that kills for enjoyment and sport, how sad😞

Such an interesting perspective on these sea animals. Craig is undeniably an amazing human being to develop such amazing bond with creature of the sea and he’s also such great story teller with calm and soothing voice. His kids must love story time with Dad. Excellent documentary.

Just finished it on Netflix. I cried. How beautiful. And felt so many emotions for that little octopi. ☹️ What I took from this is every animal contributes to nature in some way. Keeps the world alive. Very fragile the earth is. Made me wonder, what are humans contributing? 🤔

I completely understand Craigs mindset . 15 years ago I was accepted into the world of a pair of Peregrine Falcons as they raised 4 chicks and it was TRULY AMAZING ! I will keep that as one of , if not the most , cherished memories of my life !

I can tell when Hari loves an interview. He Smiles from ear to ear .... but not so much on social justice shows dealing with the mistreatment of human beings with black and brown skin.Please keep him assigned to nature shows. Let Michelle and Walter handle social justice and other vital interviews.
