Im scared sir was the most heartbreaking line ever delivered in a tv show. the best shows will go from laughter to tears in an instant. Last 5 mins of the last episode is the most heartbreaking scene on tv.
Agreed. Close to leaving the bunker, they knew what lay ahead. "I'm scared sir" was met with "I'm scared too sir" and that's how it surely have must been for so many there. The last few seconds of the show have of course passed into legend.
100%. It legitimately is tear jerking watching them come to terms with the reality of what is about to happen.
Don’t skip season 1. I love season 1
If it's any consolation, future Blackadders exist in specials, so we can probably assume that at least Edmund got out alive.
@@RealSteel259 🤦
Rowan Atkinson is a genius at timing. He is so good at giving you the line, and letting the laughter build before hitting you with the actual end.
When this season first aired in '89, the last few of that WWI generation were still with us. Every single one of them I knew (probably eight or so) said the attitudes of the officers, i.e. looking down on the ordinary soldiers and having much more in common with their German opposite numbers, were the least exaggerated part of the show. They also, to a man, loved the ending of the season and show.
I’m rewatching Blackadder on the BBC iPlayer atm but the end of the 4th series still get me even now it’s so sad! Blackadder try’s everything to get out of going over the top but doesn’t in the end
People often say that Season 1 of Blackadder was 'weak', but it featured 'The Spanish Infanta' episode, which was hilarious, also 'The Witchsmeller Pursuivant'.
And the devils cat 😂
There were some decent episodes, but the problem was Blackadder himself. His character just didn't work. From then on the character was the same through the ages & worked perfectly as a pivot around which the other performances turned.
@@diogenesagogo I'd totally agree with that. In series 1 he's a craven coward and in the rest he's a sarky cynic.
funny fact about the witchsmeller persuivant, the man that played him was Frank Finlay who was actually nominated for an Oscar earlier in his career for his portrayal of Iago in the 1965 Movie version of Othello (the one where Laurence olivier was also nominated for an oscar for playing othello in blackface)
Season 1 was great season 3 was weak for me
Rowan Atkinson's delivery is unique, and one of the main things that makes Blackadder hilarious.
With episode context you'd get more of the jokes too. When Blackadder called King & Country "soft strong and thoroughly absorbent" it's because earlier they were talking about using it a toilet paper, hence also the "right up your alley" from Melchett after.
"what could any patriotic chap have against this magnificent mag?"
"Apart from his bottom"
😂😂😂
😂😂😂
@@andywrong3247 you should just watch blackadder clips rather than the reaction, why do you think we watch the reaction videos? It’s in the title.
S1 is considered to be nowhere near as good as the other three. You don't need context, as each of the four is a separate story in a different era.
Exactly
To be honest goes forth is sooooo much better then the first three it's almost a thing on it's own. They really nailed season four
They also did 2 specials, Blackadder's Christmas Carol, which is obviously a reworking of A Christmas Carol and Back and Forth which was the final installment of the Blackadder saga, it's a time traveling sci-fi comedy set on millennium eve, it was originally shown at the Millennium Dome in London throughout 2000.
There was also 'The Cavalier Years', a 15 minute special for Comic Relief.
@@alpinenewtplaysgames4509 I forgot about that, I think they included that on the dvd boxset.
Season 1 - Medieval (mostly regarded as the weakest)
Season 2 - Elizabethan period
Season 3 - Georgian period
Season 4 - WW1
Good rule of thumb is that as the Blackadder's drop down the rungs of society they get more sharp witted.
@Paul Hitchens The lower budget wasn't just a design choice. The BBC were going to cancel Blackadder, until Elton and Curtis convinced them they could do it on half the budget.
The highs in season 1 are very high indeed. Season 3 is my personal favourite followed by 4, 1 and then 2 which is still great but I’ve overdosed on that one.
@@SirHilaryManfat series 2 to 4 were done on half the budget?!
@@India.H Pretty much. They used studios for nearly all the scenes, rather than having a lot of expensive on location shots that series 1 had.
The highest contrafibularities to you on the completion of another great reaction
The pause makes it, in a bag. Blackadder goes fourth was the best. One liners were brilliant. Happy New Year King & Queen Boomer 👍
I do have a soft spot for series 3, mind...
To anyone who may not have seen... but Tony Robinson just did Celebrity Bake Off and for one of the tasks made cake turnips, in tribute to Baldrick.
They were so good he got a Hollywood Handshake and Tony cried. Absolutely amazing man, the clip is on RUclips if you wanted to see it.
_Blackadder II_ (the Elizabethan series) is probably my favourite of them all. I think it might also have the most 'crossover gags' that would make sense to an American...
_Blackadder Goes Forth_ (this one) is my next favourite, then Regency (B3), then Mediæval (B1). But I'd watch them all again happily. Hope you really get in to Blackadder as it's hugely popular here still, as new generations discover him for the first time... 😊
I often wonder whether Blackadder travelled across the pond very well. So much of the humour is based on popular perceptions of British history, particularly the fourth series, and that's what made it so funny - for us. You have to know the topic in order to fully appreciate the satirization of it. There is the obvious humour, which anyone can spot, but there are many references that won't register unless you know something of the period, and it's place in British culture. The same would apply in reverse there were ever a satire/comedy about the American Civil War, or the revolution - the references made would be unknown to us in the UK.
The great thing about Blackadder is that you don't have to watch any of the Series in order. It would be a good idea to start with Series 4, and Series 2 afterwards. Series 2 to 4 stand up well to modern audiences, but it's difficult to know if you're going to enjoy that sarcastic laced humour judging by your reactions. It's a tough one, because Blackadder is one of those exalted comedies in the UK, that you might get a bit of stick if you don't particulary like it.
Yes, it's almost sacrilege to _not_ like it...
#nopressurethen
Don't watch the final episode or the final 5 mins of the final episode before watching the series properly. Believe me it will have much more impact and resonate with you as it was intended when released. I hope you've seen enough now to venture into full episodes and properly enjoy Blackadder and the genius characters with brilliant lines such as "Bob" all will become clear lol
I agree completely
Happy new year to you and the Queen. The last few minutes of the last episode is very powerful.
Biting and devastating sarcasm, inspired by reality.
“Would you like to hear another one?”
“No, we wouldn’t want to wear you out”
“I could go on all night sir”
“Not with a bayonet through your neck you couldn’t!!”
Legendary bants
Rowan Atkinson's delivery, including the pause you mentioned, is one of the great parts of all the series.Have a look at the final 5 minutes of the final episode which is both funny and terribly tragic at the same time.
The final scenes in the final episode is absolutely outstanding, leaving you kinda speechless to be honest
Captain Darling: "Bugger".
Comedy genius.
Don’t watch the finale of this season as suggested until you’ve got to know the characters otherwise it doesn’t have nearly as much impact
@@lilywhitefi This is a good point, much as I want him to see it…
Blackadder is a classic and yes it’s hard to find full episodes. But honestly if you start from Season 2.onwards it’s the best. Blackadder takes you through history right up to the First World 🌎 War. All the best to you and The Queen 2023 🏴😎
Don't worry mate, you don't need context. Each series is it's own individual thing that can be watched on its own, each with the same characters making the same running jokes. And they never get any less funny
The pause Rowan Atkinson gives before saying "bag" is because he has a slight stammer. It's also why he says "Bob" in such an amusing way.
That dude with the moustache is Stephen Fry. An extremely intelligent fellow, who used to host the program “QI” as in “Quite Interesting”.
Look him up.
Just start with series 2 and do 3 & 4. There's only 6 episodes of each. You need to watch the full episodes ie not clips to appreciate. And I'm a huge Inbetweeners fan as well!
Pity the screen is 20% clip and 80% King Boomers love dungeon ! Unless you've recently redecorated we already know what your room of doom looks like you MUPPET ! 😉
Herrrree she is 😂 how ya doin' KB? I have heard a lot of reactors say it's so difficult to get whole episodes😔 but thanks for the snippets any case hope you QB and the ones you hold dear have a great new year buddy ✌️
Happy new year you old bugger, and to Her Majesty. It's a shame that you can't get hold of the whole Blackadder set. It's an absolute master piece of linguistic acrobatics. Tony Robinson who plays Baldric used to host a show called Time Team where a group of archeologists would travel the UK uncovering settlements and castles all the way back to the Neolithic, stone, bronze, iron, Roman, Viking ages right up to WW2. He got a knighthood for his contribution to archeology and is now Sir Tony Robinson. Just a side note:- I was hoping that your new set up would mean that we didn't have to watch the clips in a squashed form. Great to have you back mate. ✌️♥️🇬🇧
Series 3 is probably my favourite.
Happy new Year King Boomer!! Love from one of your UK muppett friends
I'm actually impressed that Blackadder pronounces Van Gogh like Loch instead of Van Goff or the American Van Go.
YAAAAAY its the pastor of muppets !!
Blackadder goes forth will always have a special place in my ♥ made army life a little easier
First there was the Cult of the Inbetweeners and now there will be the Cult of Blackadder. It's an absolute must-watch 😄
The magazine jokes are referring to earlier scenes. I'd recommend watching the full series.
Field Marshal Hague was the very definition of a man fighting the last war. He Was in Charge of 2 of the bloodiest parts of the conflict in the Somme offensive and the battle of Passchendaele. he did however after the war help found the royal british legion and the poppy appeal as a way to try and make up for his wartime exploits.
The somme was also a victory. And was meant to be a joint operation with the French. Unfortunately the French became embroiled in Verdun and we needed to tie up enemy forces. As for passchendale?hardly a continuation of the original slog. Haig stopped the German advance at the start of WWI and is responsible for its defeat.
LOVE the Christmas Blackadder Special, Blackadder Back and Forth! AND LOVE the ending song, lyrics "At last a Queen that looks good naked!".
Season 1 has one amazing episode you have to watch: "The Archbishop of Canterbury". Blackadder is a snivelilng weasel. And the jokes aplenty
Yeah, Haig was a muppet.
Happy new year to you and the queen 🤴👸
Season 1 had far higher production values than the other 3. It was one reason that the show was almost cancelled as it was deemed to be too expensive. The remaining 3 are noticably 'cheaper' looking but generally funnier.
I liked season 1 very much because when it first aired in 1983, I'd never seen anything like it. It does have a VERY different vibe to the other 3 and I can totally see why it's not as popular. My favourite episode is 'the Witchsmeller Persuivant' with the barking mad Frank Findlay.
Also interesting to note is the reversal of intelligence between Blackadder and Baldrick. In season 1 Baldrick is the smart one and Blackadder is 'as thick as a whale omelette' and then the Baldricks get more stupid and the Blackadders get smarter.
Series 1 was set in 1485.
Series 2 was set in the Elizabethan Era.
Series 3 was set in the Regency Era
Series 4 was set during World War 1 (1917, in fact.)
Watch all the series if you really like it. Forget what the other muppets say Lol
Boomer, question. You a Florida sports fan? Noticed a Bucs jersey. This WAS British comedy at its best, just have a laugh and don’t care about offending.
B.A season 1 , the black Russian cod piece, laughed my f##king head off .
Once you get to know the characters and the plot it's hilarious.
Blackadder 1 - 13th century
Blackadder 2 - Queen Elizabeth 1
Blackadder 3 - 18th century
Blackadder 4 - First World War
historically accurate documentary
The sarcasm is top notch. Love it
Season two is worth a Watch , Queen Elizabeth the First .
Blackadder is brilliant the forth series is best followed by the 2nd (thank god all are on BBC iPlayer atm and I’m watching them again). The 2nd episode of the 4th series where Blackadder is court marshalled for shooting the General’s pigeon is the best one absolutely brilliant and the end of the 4th series still gets me when they go over the top and are all killed. But who would’ve thought a series set in the trenches of WW1 would be so funny
Stephen Fry so brill as the General.
Anyone that says Season 1 was weak has obviously lost their funny bone and should have it replaced - encased in hot chilli pepper and inserted via their bottom.
the best Blackadders go in order of Blackadder goes fourth, Blackadder 2 then Blackadder the Third, Blackadder and then Blackadder goes back and forth
I love series 1 ,new set up looks great nice visual and sound
blackadder goes fourth is the best season
Stephen Fry plays General Melchett 👍
A grouping of episodes in the UK is a "series" and not a "season".
The Season 4 episode where Hugh Laurie ends up in drag is a hoot - and an echo of 'Some Like It Hot'.
2 was Tudor, 3 was Regency England approx late 18th, early 19th century 👍🏴
Happy new year king and Queen boomer 😊🍾🎊👍❤️
Happy New Year King and Queen Boomer.
Season 1 won't really give you any context as each season is fairly isolated. The only thing that's consistent is the actors and the characters of Blackadder and Baldrick. You could watch 2, 3 and 4 in any order and not miss anything, but as 4 is the best, I'd save it until last.
the episode called private plain is one of the funniest things i have seen when blackadder learns to fly
Ignore season 1, make sure you watch 2, 3, & 4. Has anyone told you that yet?
Seriously though, don't worry if you know little to nothing about English history, I'm Scottish and knew little beyond the setting and some historical figures. Decades later and my friends and family still quote lines, especially from season 2. Rowan Atkinson is a master of the mid-gag pause and it's a massive part of the character, just adds so much to the joke.
WATCH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if you don't do reaction videos of it you will enhance your life by watching it.
Happy New Year !
The best Blackadder in my opinion
Watch series 2-4 in order, so that you will understand the running gags. Series 4 has a very poignant ending, but I hope no-one gives it away.
if you want a clip, has to be Rick Mayall's appearance in Series 2 ep 1 - look under Lord Flashheart.
Happy New Year King Boomer and all of the muppet army. The last scene of this series is brilliant. Very emotional
I I had a manly tear in my eye...
I kind of liked season one but you don't need it for context they are all stand alone. Though the season one format is very different with Blackadder as the fool and the companions brighter
Great vid/reaction as always Boomboom. Blackadder goes forth is the fourth in the series and imo maybe the heaviest to get into if you're just starting to watch the series due to the waste of lives in World War 1 theme. Unsure why you didn't do season 1 first? Its got numerous quotable lines, more light hearted and is hilarious even though some people feel its the "weakest" series. It would also gently bed you into the Black Adder humour rather than going head first into season 4.
The seasons are also in historical order starting with medieval England, then the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1st followed by the Regency period and ending in WW1 which has a very sober ending.
All series have a common theme of the historical conflict that formed England/UK and though Rowan Atkinson plays different characters (named Blackadder) they are basically the same personality. I think your take on each season in order, the way the series grew, the Blackadder and Baldrick characters etc etc, would be great to hear.
Could a hard stop on season 4 and restart with season 1 be possible?
Don't skip any season, they all build the characters and style and lead up to the final series.
You simply can't go to the final series first. All the seasons lead up to the finale which, if you have all the history, make the final episode one of the most moving pieces of television, especially when it's a comedy.
I would say we had the build up across many years so the effect would be greater but, I reiterate, don't watch the last season first.
The Queen Elizabeth I season is particularly good.
I'm pretty sure that a streaming service call BritBox makes BBC and ITV classic programmes available worldwide.
I own the complete series dvd set, when the internet is out or I am downloading a game, I will watch dvd's of Blackadder etc. Series 1 has a reversal of character in that Baldric is clever and smart where Edmond is the dimwit simpleton, it is a little all over the place plot wise and they shot it on location mostly.
series 1= 1485
series 2= 1590(ish)
series 3= 1799 (ish) just before the turn of the century
series 3= 1917
Happy new years 💕
Hearing what you said in this video, I think you'd enjoy all the Blackadders very much watching ;
Series 4
Series 2
Series 3
The Christmas specials
Then series 1, if you can be bothered.
Buy the box sets, it is that simple
That dude with the moustache is Stephen Fry!
Season one is my favourite. Some of the jokes might be a little more niche though hence its less broad appeal.
You don't need context from season one. You should know though that the various Blackadder seasons are parodies of British history. The various seasons follow multiple generations of the Blackadder family, with Season 1 being in the 15th Century, it's set in an alternate time-line with a fictional Richard IV on the throne instead of Henry VII. S1 E1 of Blackadder gives us the reason for the alternative (comical) timeline and the origin story of the name Blackadder. Honestly, though, the rest of the seasons make perfect sense even without having seen it. Season 2 on the other hand returns to normal history and is set in the 16th century during the Elizabethan era, with Elizabeth I on the throne. Season 3 is set in the Georgian era (late 18th early 19th century) and Blackadder Goes Forth is the fourth season (a play on the pronunciation of the words forth and fourth) is set during the first world war. Each season then works well as a stand alone season and doesn't require the viewer to have watched the previous seasons.
love that show
What will it take to get full episode reactions of Blackadder? Name it and your followers will make it happen!
Happy New Year fella!
Oh aren't the British Ruperts unique? Wonderful stuff
Knowing some British military History would help you. Melchet is a gross exaggeration of Britains Head of the Army, in WW1 , Field Marshall ,Sir Douglas Haigh. BUT,, after he retired post war, He wrote his memoirs, about1925. IN WHICH, he wrote.''The Tank and the Aeroplane were marvelous additions to our attacking strength BUT,, They will never, replace a man on a Horse''. OK ?
Brilliant cast in Blackadder, never be anything like it again, best wishes 2023 to yourself and the queen👍
Howdy. I'm glad you had a good crimbo. Owing to ill health, I literally didn't have a crimbo.
Happy New Year Boomer. Each season of Blackadder has 6 episodes. That's easy to get through. I want to watch them all again, so it would be a good excuse if you react to em 😀
Love the prison outfit that you're wearing for this one.
Seasons 3 and 4 were the best!
Goes forth is way the best for me!
I would never skip series 1 of anything, certainly not Blackadder. Series 2 and 3 are my favourites. WWI is Series 4.
Personally my favourite series is series 2, it takes place in Tudor England and I just think the pacing is better
Season 1 is good. Don't skip it!
Some jokes in Blackadder are quintessentially British so you may not understand them, but as long as you understand and enjoy sarcasm, anyone will enjoy it.
In each series, Blackadder is basically just out for himself and surrounded by idiots. In Series 3, he is butler to King George. George is a complete moron and generally falls for any attempt Blackadder makes to get money off of him. Series 4, he's trying to get out of the trenches and away from the war, but with some sort of positive result such as a medal or being sent to Paris.
Happy New Year Boomer man. If your doing Blackadder clips find one of the Rik Mayall Flashard! appearances, the WW1 ones are far too funny.
Have a very lovely new year to you dalins ❤🇬🇧😊😊
Really should watch the whole of season of Black Adder goes 4th would love to see you do a reaction video to the final episode of season 4.
As for the other seasons there is a kind of story arc of how Black Adder character develops over all the incarnations, from the weak cowardly in season 1 to cynical yet honorable in season 4
This was more like a documentary..many people refused to wear a poppy at some time
Must re-watch Blackadder the range of insults he's got for Baldric is the best use of the English language I've ever heard.
Watch the whole series, seriously
