“I have a cunning plan.” Is Baldrick’s catchphrase.

The owl hoot is a kind of evolution of the musical punctuation that used to happen with dramatic moments in the earlier series

Brilliant and the best series final 30 seconds of any sitcom ever.
After laughing all the way through they accidentally created an end to end all ends

Oh my Lord! I am old enough that I watched all the Blackadder series when first aired on the BBC. There were many, many exceptionally funny episodes. So many that I couldn't list them all if I tried. But, this one is definitely up there with the best of them.
I have not had much to laugh about for some time due to world curcumstances negatively impacting my fortunes. This Blackadder episode made it all recede for the duration while I belly-laughed at the genius script and perfect comedic delivery of every single actor. Thank you, Connor, for choosing this video. Love your channel.

@@sueprinn1709 (Almost) spoiler alert for Connor: react to it first, please.
I still don't know how I should react to the ending, and haven't watched it again since it first aired. And yet it still sticks vividly with me every time I see anything military mentioned in the news, or about this series.
"Memorable" is a massive understatement here. I'd probably put forward "life changing." An expression and cliché I've never used about anything else on TV, ever.
It certainly elevated the whole show to something more than 'simply' comic genius at its finest.

The Jailor was played by comedian, the late Jeremy Hardy (sadly missed)
The firing squad played by Radio 4 comedy stalwarts Mark Arden Steven Frost Mark Elliot and Lee Cornes. (The WOW Show)
Arden and Frost well known for their series of comedy skits for Carling black Label including the Dambusters skit where the German Guard saves the bouncing bombs like a football goalkeeper.
"I bet he drinks Carling Black Label !" say the Lancaster crew.

The opening and closing bits with the band were filmed at the Cavalry Barracks in Colchester, England where I stayed many a time whilst we were on the army shooting ranges doing live firing exercises nearby in Colchester. Sadly it doesn't exist any more as its been sold off, demolished and houses have been built on the land BUT if you slow down both of them and look at the very top left you will see the walls with a round top of a more modern contruction which are the walls of the army glass house (prison to anyone else) which we avoided at all cost. The ending credits in black and white is actually modern filming when they did the series and made to look old. I was in the Royal Anglians.

'The Pony Club' is a long established association for teaching kids how to ride horses. It's very much a rural and upper class affair which is why George's sister, from her aristocratic family, is a member

  • @Varksterable

This particular series is particularly hard to watch, because of its relative closeness, and utterly ludicrous accuracy.
And at the same time, it has a masterfully comically genius about it.
Sometimes the gap between despair, insanity, and laughability of the human race is so thin.
But maybe it's _because_ it makes genuine humour of such craziness that makes it stand out?

I think the bit you are thinking of in the first series is something to do with Blackadder’s extremely young bride-to-be. I haven’t seen it in years so can’t remember what he thought she’d brought him in jail that could help him, but I know she says “No silly, it’s a dolly”.
