This video: Even Corsair Knows Air Cooling is Better Can you even blame anyone at this point for being confused about which one is better when your own channel has flip-flopped on this subject 3 times in the past year alone?
That's the point. One is not necessarily better than the other, they have pros and cons and which is better depends on the person and the application/situation.
Make it like a split AC system with the fan ducts on the outside, use transcritical C02 which means mass flow is small, and you can get a compact size, cooling performance that can keep the chip at zero or below, and the extra strength required for the CO2 compression does not matter at this scale as tube and pipes at smaller diameters are much stronger. The gas cooler which takes place of condenser, can be extra large and heavy duty mounted on the outside, and that means we need less air flow and can be much, much quieter.
My $25 (got it on sale, it’s usually about $35) cooler master hyper 212 evo seems like a better purchase every time I watch one of LTTs cooler videos. For reference, I’ve never heard it get loud at all and I’ve never seen my 7700K get hotter than 72 degrees. I mainly play destiny 2 on 1080p 144hz highest settings and it usually stays between 45 and 55 degrees centigrade.
I tried water cooling once, (Corsair All in one water cooling unit) and I didn't see much benefit temps were same since I have a 70 degree F room in winter and summer. I noticed the invention of heat pipes rather then just a solid block with fins worked just as well. I bought the basic heat pipe from Cooler master 212 evo. No issues with heat or instability even with over clocking. So I never looked at water cooling again.
Just as an FYI, the SATIMO chamber is for measuring over-the-air antenna performance. Both total radiated power and isotropic sensitivity. They use several probes in a circle to quickly measure power. Other chambers use an antenna on a mast which rotates around the central turn table, which also rotates 360 degrees. Then you get full coverage around the entire phone. The cones in those chambers primary work from about 450 MHz up to 12 GHz. While sound will be attenuated relative to a normal room, it is nothing compared to a room with cones designed for the audible spectrum. Those rooms are downright uncomfortable to be in and can actually make some people physically ill!
I have an AIO , and I'm happy to say I will not be going back to bulky air coolers. Most people don't overclock or run the top of the line CPU to aid in their heating of a room. I always liked how big air coolers just bend a MB .... such a pretty sight ...
Thats what i see from Jay's video as well. It looks big, but doesnt offer much performance up compared to normal 120mm cooler, the interesting stuffs are the new ease of use improvements.
Honestly, on paper when you look at decibels, CFMs, power draw, and cost, air cooling has come a long way and I'll probably do a full air cooled build when I do a complete upgrade in the future.
Air cooling spread warm air into the pc case then warm the gpu, while watercooling extract the air from pc case. For compare cpu AIO vs cpu aircooling you must show the temp of gpu too !
Hi there at Linus Tech: How about some other 'creative cooling experiment'. Using 'normal' air cooling but with additional cooling using a Ranque-Hilsch vortex tube. That should allow for some serious overclocking - also unlike nitrogen cooling - it can supply a constant cooling.

Watercooling doesn't "suck" it just isn't worth the cost. AIOs are still marginally better than air cooling and custom loops are a fair bit better (plus they do look better/a lot better), but there's an extreme price disparity and need to perform maintenance.
A big heavy air cooler that can be accidentally moved, no thanks. NY H115 does the job good, plus it looks cleaner in the case and I can get to my RAM easy. Theres no way I'd move over to air cooling.

I stopped using liquid cooling when I discovered Noctua cooling systems.
Or you can just put Noctua fans on an AIO and get the best of both worlds. Super quiet even at full bore, and no giant tower hanging off your CPU and making everything hard to work on.
@@JMurph2015 still better to get an actual noctua for practicality and reliability.
@@JMurph2015 Cooling *systems* not cooling fans.
Noctua makes some incredibly good cooling *systems*, the ones with 6 heat pipes, a very dense fin stack, y'know the kind. The good cooling systems.
AIO Radiators vary in quality a large amount, this is why a NH-D15 is comparable to some 240mm rads, and is better than most 120mm.
AIOs have their place in small form factors though, where you can't fit a big proper air cooler.
@@JMurph2015 Noctua heatsinks won't leak on your components... also better performance than most aios anyway.
@@ashleyjohansson230 nah I actually have a D14 as well. It's horrific for my lifestyle. You have to pull it out every time you move the computer, you have to pull it out to change RAM, you have to pull it out to get at my GPU, it's just such a pita. Also, since socket AM4 has the tendency to not hold onto the CPU very well, when you do pull it off, you run the risk of bad things happening to your CPU. It's a good cooler while you aren't doing any of the above, but I do some of the above way too often.
Edit: also my SSD slot is under my GPU, so you have to pull both the cooler and the GPU for that one 😅.

Can you even blame anyone at this point for being confused about which one is better when your own channel has flip-flopped on this subject 3 times in the past year alone?
technology advancing as fast as it does is why it flip flops all the time.
That's the point. One is not necessarily better than the other, they have pros and cons and which is better depends on the person and the application/situation.
@@ForgotowToUserName AIOs have been largely the same for the past 3 years in terms of performance and the d15 has been out forever lol

Its funny how long it took for a computer company that makes AIOs, that has air in the name, to make a new air cooler.
Corsair is not a compound word. It's another name for a pirate ship. It has nothing to do with air.

The way he said,
"Who is our sponsor for this video"

Wow this was recommended to me once they showed their new office and they have planned to create a noise and sound room for acoustics on products 😂
5:58 "This product is great" - Linus
That's all Corsair needs 😁😁😁

Just kidding. But that would have been a linus moment.
@6:18 Price adjustment wish granted. This cooler is now (12/21/20) on sale at Newegg for the ridiculously low price of $30, after $20 mail in rebate.

Honestly, on paper when you look at decibels, CFMs, power draw, and cost, air cooling has come a long way and I'll probably do a full air cooled build when I do a complete upgrade in the future.
Can you please show off the Coolermaster V10? that relic needs a video.
Air cooling spread warm air into the pc case then warm the gpu, while watercooling extract the air from pc case.

@@Eonymia Mostly, I was looking for maglev bearing fans at the time, even if the heatsink assembly itself turned out to be something I decided to never use.
When I was looking, the cheapest magnetic levitation fans I could find were about $25 each. Figured I'd come out at least even money-wise at the time if all I ever ended up using were the fans. I'd even come out ahead of the game if I then sold the heatsink for a discounted price because I'd removed the fans.
In my opinion u need both air and water for a very chilled system. Just an air cooler doesnt really cut it for me and a aio or custom water loops need great air flow to preform, plus he did his comparison without the coolers being in a case with more restrictive air flow
If that Radiator Fan Unit thing had some colored antifreeze coolant running through it, it would just make it way cooler and worth my money.
