la letra de la cancion; fueron las palabras que percy pronuncio acongojado en el ecenario antes de iniciar el show y luego de que su novia lo abandonara. percy talvez nunca imagino que aquellas palabras con voz temblorosa serian un clasico del siglo 20

Percy, was the first Black artist who performed in South Africa, could've been1972. I saw his show at the Colosseum in Johannesburg. Loved soul music those days and still do. My deceased daughter born 1974 and passed on 2015 especially loved this song. BTW she would have been 45 today. This song will always be an evergreen. RIP Percy.

This song should be an anthem for any man who loves his lady and a tribute to every lady who is loved. Thank you Percy Sledge for all the joy you have brought to the world. You will sing forever in everyone's heart.

This song made me LITERALLY scream and cry it sounded so sad when I was about 4 years old. I was listening to my mom's 60s/early 70s 45s on my cowboy-decorated record player while I rode my springy horse in my bedroom. "Treat Her Like A Lady" and "Too Late to Turn Back Now" by Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose (I listened to those two songs over and over) and "When A Man Loves A Woman" by Percy Sledge.

Percy really sold this song on this video. You can see his eyes well up and he is on the verge of tears. He doesn't dance or scream...he doesn't have to. He just sits there and sings and holds his big ol' fists out and makes you feel every single word. Now that's how soul music should be performed...always.

When a man loves a woman
Can't keep his mind on nothin' else
    He'd trade the world
For a good thing he's found
If she is bad, he can't see it
    She can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend
    If he puts her down
When a man loves a woman
    Spend his very last dime
Trying to hold on to what he needs
He'd give up all his comforts
And sleep out in the rain
If she said that's the way
    It ought to be
When a man loves a woman
I give you everything I've got (yeah)
    Trying to hold on
    To your precious love
Baby please don't treat me bad
When a man loves a woman
    Deep down in his soul
She can bring him such misery
If she is playing him for a fool
He's the last one to know
    Loving eyes can never see
Yes when a man loves a woman
I now exactly how he feels
    'Cause baby, baby, baby
    I am a man
When a man loves a woman

First met Percy and Rosa in 1986 in Shreveport, La at "Centenary Oyster House". Invited backstage by my friend and his opening act that night "Betty Lewis & The Executives", Percy hugged me and thanked me for coming and then we talked football. What a memory. Second time meeting was at the "Whispering Pines" club in Ringgold, La. My girl friend and I were dancing when Percy left the stage and came on the dance floor while singing "When a Man Loves a Woman". He rubbed my girl friends head for good luck since she was a redhead. After the show we talked with Percy and I promise you that he was the most congenial, courteous entertainer ever. As the song "Thanks for the Memories" plays I will always remember fondly my meetings with Percy.
