Hi, @StatsBloke! What happens with the "simple" XP a ship has as a surplus when played after having researched her? Is it being added to the T1 ship of the techtree line or is it lost? Thank you for another very useful video of yours. Keep doing this great job! Congratz and Best regards! 👍🏼
I'm not sure if you're referring to when you play a ship, and get enough XP to research the next ship, or whether you're talking about resetting a line with Research Bureau. I'll cover both:
When you play a ship, you get ship XP, Free XP, and Commander XP (or Elite Commander XP if you have a 19pt captain). The ship XP "sticks" to the ship you earned it on. The Free XP goes into your FXP pool. The Commander XP sticks to the commander you earned it on (with ECXP being a pool resource if you earn it). When you research modules on a ship, ship XP is deducted, and you can use FXP to cover any shortfall if you want to speed up your grind. When you research the next ship in the line (or move sideways when lines split), ship XP is deducted from the first ship to research the new one. Once you start playing the new ship, that earns its own XP. The original ship has its own XP pool, which gets added to when you play it. If you've researched all the modules and all the ships which branch from that ship, the ship XP is basically useless as you can't spend it on anything. You can convert it using doubloons into FXP, but that's really expensive.
When you reset a line for Research Bureau, all the XP from the individual ships is sent down to the Tier 1 cruiser for that line. You can use a little bit of that to then research the T2 (literally a few hundred), but otherwise it just sits on the Tier 1 forever unless you convert it using doubloons into FXP. So basically, unless you throw real money at it, the ship XP from the ship in the reset line is useless, but that's no different to it being useless sitting on the individual ships before you reset the line - ship XP is only useful if you haven't researched everything associated with that ship yet (modules and following ship(s)).

Great video Stats - thank you for this; especially the XP tip and resetting line several times. One thing that has happened to me and is worth pointing out; if you reset a line that has a ship you haven't researched in it, you will NOT get any RB points for that ship. This can happen when you have a T7 ship from an early access event that you have failed to get but you jumped to the T8 of that line by spending doubloons.

Wow you have given great advice, this saves quite a few credits, and the most advisable thing is to do it when it is x2, and then wait 3 months and reset to accumulate x4 and then just start buying and playing

amazing video..thanks for explaining all of this so well. i have one question though, does the multiplier stacking happen across seasons? in other words, if i reset a day before the next season starts and again as soon as the new season starts, do i get x2 + x2 = x4 multiplier? that would be the most efficient use of free xp i think. also, is there good clarity on when a season starts and ends (for this to work well), that text showing 2 months, does it go down to 2 days 1 day and so on...thanks in advance, i know this is an old vid and i am commenting a year late 😄

Quick question: Is there a time limit to get the bonus by playing a ship after reset or can we wait?
Super helpful, thanks. I reset my Harugumo line with double bonus one day before the bonus resets. Next day I free XP the whole line and ended up with 4x research points. Now I have 58000 research points as I just finished my grind to Harugumo (40000 pts plus bonus through regulr playing). I have 1.7 million free XP now so I think I will free XP the IJN CA line twice at the next bonus reset in 14 days for 5x bonus with just 1 grind.

Excellent video!! This helped tremendously. I do have a question- the rules state that once a player is given any RB points, they are then part of the RB. In the Hizen Dockyard, it states that there are RB points to be had for completion. Is it safe to say that doing the Dockyard event will jumpstart entry into the RB? Thanks.
Very informative and useful video! I wanted to know more about RB and it shed light on a big misinterpretation I had. I used to think that if I reset the US BB line that I would not only have all the ships sold but then a new ship would replace the tier X ship (Ohio instead of Montana) and Montana would be lost forever. Now I see that was erroneous and I can keep Montana once I research and buy her back again but use the research points to purchase Ohio. I wonder if others made this same mistake? Knowing I can reclaim the sold ships and then purchase new ones with the research points makes this much more appealing. I may give this a go once I finish 4 more lines for my 5. Thanks again!

Hi! Great video! What happens if you have more captains in a line that gets reset than spots in your reserve? Do they get dismissed?
This is easily one of the most,if not THE most helpful video I have seen on this shoot em up. Been playing +4 years and never knew about RB-why? Hate tier 10,most boring play ever, have a couple of lines at T10,German and RN cruisers,but no interest in the rest,and what's more, I ENJOY tier 4-6 as it is much more fun. Well,it was until CVs started up,now I just do co-op as a way of relaxing,which avoids that issue.Subs will kill it completely. As I can't see anything of interest in RB ship wise it's not for me,but I atleast now know what you are talking about when I watch your streams,which I do,as often as possible. Probably the best streamer for to watch for a laugh and without the shouting and foul language of most (and I'm a sarf lundon boy so know a word or 2).
Hi @StatsBloke, Great video and very useful information! So I have a question...I just reset one of my lines yesterday but did not research of the line so I have a 2x bonus. It says at the bottom of the tech tree that "the next victory multiplier will be available in 4 days". So to maximize my bonus should I wait to fxp the line until it resets or should I fxp the line now (without buying the ships) and then reset it again when it resets? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work!
Either way, in order to get multiple bonuses you have to use FXP to re-research the line (without rebuying the ships) and then reset again. If this happens to be two double bonuses either side of the three month window, it's the same process; but yes, you'd end up with X4 for the FXP cost of one line re-research, and then either FXPing or playing through to knock off the RB symbols.
Great video and confirmed what I've heard. One question, if I take the 2x reset, don't buy and wait until the next 2x reset to come, will I get 4x. I am thinking of doing that this week since the next quarter is coming up in a few days. Thanks again for a great video, going to post it in the clan chat so others who are new or limited knowledge of the RB can view it. Keep it up.

Is resetting affecting the super ships like Satsuma etc, do you need to buy and play them also?
And if you are in a clan that have built the stuff that gives a % bonus to research points, do that affect the amount you get?

If I need 40k Research points, isn't it better to reset two separate lines for double points? (2 times 20K)
instead of resetting the same line every time with free xp, for example 4 times. (for the extra bonus)
1 x 20K and 2 x 10K.
Hi. You may have covered this, but if so I missed it. Does the 2x RP bonus for the first line reset in a given season expire at the end of that season?
@StatsBloke, Can you do a overview about the different ships one can get in the research b. Which one should be the first and so on. (If we pretend that a player likes all types of ships and types). I cannot deside between Slava with megaguns, Ohio or the Italien DD.
The missions for the special T10 upgrades are still on, are they planning to close that way to get those special upgrades? For me that would be the only reason to try and regrind the techtree but then i would lost the progress i was making in those missions. Thanks for the videos.
As far as I know, the Unique Upgrades ("Special Upgrades" are the coal ones) are staying in the Research Bureau. If you have missions for any Legendaries, you have until 31st December to finish them before they get removed.
Good Lord. I've been playing the game for over 3 years now, and I have over 150 ships in my port. I'm currently playing in rank 1 in ranked. I don't think I've ever spent a single point of Free XP to speed though upgrades or ship tiers. The amount of time and games it would take to earn over 4 million free XP would be mind boggling.

Just a heads up. This worked perfectly for the Slava but when i did the same thing for the Siegfried after waiting on the season reset for x2 bonus the game didnt record one complete reset and support are simply stating that i reset the line twice not the 3 times that i did, so i was 10000 points short and have no recourse except wallet is now shut indefinately.

Small question, when the commander goes into the reserve after resetting, does he stay there indefinitely?
I somehow remember hearing that commanders are removed completely after a certain time in the reserve.
He will be there if you send him to reserve. If you dismiss him, he will be gone in an hour or so.

Hi, I'm a noobish player I suppose. Been playing on or of for the last 5 years, more so in 2020/21. I generally only play in Coop, can't stand being zunked in less than 5 mins in random's etc. I got the Hizen in late December and received research points. Since then I have received research points monthly. I now have 18988. Is this a fluke? I have now also obtained 2 T10 ships. I have made room in my reserve. I heard that I would lose my captains. Is this correct? ( the thought of losing a 21pt captain!) I am about to do my first reset. Is there anything I should be aware of? It says everything will be stripped from my ships and they will be sold. When I buy them again will I lose out financially? I don't fancy the prospect of spending millions of credits for ships that I had fully already spec'd out and paid for? Should I be quite happy getting my 1200 monthly research points getting my unique upgrades?

yes very helpful, been playing since alpha and i have 2 tier 10 lines, wanted Ohio but i don't play enough for 7 resets so you have given me enough info to say fuck it
@StatsBloke What happens to any ship exp that I did not convert to free exp when I reset a line? My Des Moines have about 100k of ship exp and my baltimore has around 10k as well (I kept playing it even after I got the the Buffalo). Does it help to decrease the amount of free exp needed to get through the line? (e.g. in the case of baltimore, -10k needed to go to Buffalo?)
All ship XP from the reset ships gets moved down to the Tier 1 cruiser for the line. None is converted to FXP.
@@StatsBloke but going from t1 to t2 uses only so little exp. what happens to the rest? Do they just sit there forever (unless I convert them)?
@StatsBloke If I reset and regrind Harugumo line every season (3 months) using FXP without buying and playing those ships for 3 seasons, will x2 bonuses for each season stack or I lose x2 bonus because I don't collect during specific season?
If you do a double bonus reset, then wait for three months, then do another double bonus reset, yes, it stacks. However, bear in mind that you can't buy those ships back and play them if you want to save credits, so you'll be without that line for 3 months. If you don't care about credits, just do two separate double bonus resets - it's the same number of points in total, it's just that you'll spend twice as many credits buying the line twice.
I only have three tier tens unlocked. I have completed the current Anchorage dockyard and now the research tabs and Armory are unlocked? Have they changed something?
Temporarily, if you got research points from the Anchorage "over grind", it unlocked the Bureau. This is not normally how it works.

If i have a haku with permo camuflage is it gonna be delete or i will have it when i reach haku again ?

Permanent camouflages stay in your inventory, so it will be there when you get the ship back. The XP from all the ships in the line gets moved to the Tier 1.
So to save on free xp & credits, doing DDs is the cheaper option, for those who dont have gazillions of free xp/credits?!
So, in these days. How much free EXP would cost Ohio if you do 6 resets in Harugumo line? And how much doubloons would that be to convert?
If I sit on 4k RP, I need +60k for Ohio's 62k cost value, and that is 6 times reset for 10k RP per reset.
Do you still need to have 5 t10 unlocked at a time or is it just a checkpoint where once you hit it, you have RB unlocked for good
Once you've unlocked it, it's permanent. You also don't need to have all five researched at once - it's just five ever.
hi, sir i have a problem, after getting 5 tier x, i have 10k bonus, it was my first time to reset then when reset the yamato line which i understand they will give me 20400 due to multiplier x2. The result that remain my research point was only 10200. I did not buy any thing yet.I thought it would be total 30400. Would you mind if can help me , why this happened?
It sounds like you haven't actually played back up through the line. You get the points by re-grinding the line, not by resetting it. The reset places the symbols on the ships. You then knock those off by getting a win to receive the points. I think we may have already talked in Twitch about this.
Right now in research bureau we have Slava. Will it disappear after this season? Or in next research bureau season we will be able to get it too?
We don't know, but expect the ships to cycle in and out

Question, i have reset the US DD line. if i just play my Fletcher till i unlock the gearing and not buy the gearing, and then reset without playing for the 6000 x 2 = 12000 RP's on the gearing, do i get an additional x 1 (or x 2 if i wait till the new season) stacked on the gearing, or do i lose the original x 2 RP's forever and just get the standard amount of PR's when i get back to the gearing???? i was thinking if you can get the bonus added to just the one ship it could save a lot of credits not buying the 20 mil ship just to reset and lose 10 mil again. i know the tier 6-9 would be the normal PR but i don't know about the tier 10. i hoping it would look like ; tier 6-- x 2, tier 7-- x 2, tier 8-- x 2, tier 9-- x 2, tier 10-- x 4. if i reset after a new season.
I don't know of anyone resetting a line without getting a win on the T10, but in theory the symbol will stay on it like it does when you do multiple FXP resets like I do in the video.
Wat if I have researched bb dd n also cv in 1 country line will it count for 3 t10 ships researched or I have to have 5 t10 in DIFFERENT country researched??

The X2 bonus resets every 12 weeks. If you do a reset during that 12 week period, you get it, if you don't you lose it - the new X2 bonus replaces the old one. If you use a X2 bonus, the X2 bonus on your "research flakes" (as I call them) stays forever until you knock it off. Hopefully that answers your question - I'm not exactly sure what you're asking.

Hey @StatsBloke, Just have an additional bit of advice for everyone....
Although Wargaming give you plenty of warnings about what will happen when you reset the lines, they don't let you know that when you research your 5th tier 10 you will no longer receive the cumulative daily mission bonuses!!!! Your 10,20,30,45 and 60 mission bonuses are no more and replaced with three research based rewards (ie. 400RP for 25,50 and 75 completed daily's). As a relatively new player this really pissed me off as I relied on the 2 port slots you could earn with the normal daily missions to keep buying ships. Now the only way I can increase my fleet is to pay for port slots (apart from when they occasionally include port slots as rewards in the odd mission here and there). If I had known I was going to lose the ability to earn at least 2 slots a month plus all the flag rewards I would never of researched that 5th T10! I would just of kept my fleet at 4 T10's until I had earned alot more free port slots for future lines and ships. Hopefully this might help save someone else from the same situation. Cheers and keep up the great work.
EDIT: Sorry guys disregard all that. I'm not sure what happened in my case whether it was just a bug or something but at the rollover all the normal rewards have returned!!!

When seasons (or whatever WG calls them) are reset and a line is reset before (for a 2x bonus) and then reset again (using free do and not playing the ships), will you get 4x research points?
@@el-cee I can't prove it 100%, but I see no reason they wouldn't stack. They stack every other way.

@@Abensberg Well after the commander reqork, research bureau ships will basically turn into extremely expensive premium ships. But they will cost around a thousand Euros each so only the super whales will do that stuff xD
i just gain access into research bureau yesterday. -0- it will be a long long way to get ohio as a free player.
@@oscarkiloecho6269 I'm only 100k exp on the Sovetsky Soyuz away from unlocking it myself and I have enough free EP saved up to immediately rush the harugumo line once. But that's still not enough to get the Yolo Emilio :(

Moskva is basically a special ship now, so it doesn't count as researched ship. You have to grind for the Nevsky.

You have to have had 5 T10 tech tree ships researched; so different lines, any five.

I had Soviet and US BBs fully researched and reset it.
Hi. So i resented my henry branch. Last time I reseted yamato and all my gathered total xp from that branch went to the first ship of the line. I could exchange this xp for doubloons to get free xp. Now what happened ist that all my xp from that branch is...gone. nowhere to be found. Is this a bug of something or what? Where did this xp go?
SOLVED ... Ok. I just found out that I had to buy the free to buy first ship plus research the second ship. Xp is there again. All branch xp is located on the first ship of this branch.
Glad you figured it out! It doesn't really matter where that XP goes because chances are you have far more ship XP than you'd ever want to pay to convert into FXP with doubloons anyway. For all intents and purposes, when you reset a line, the XP is gone.
anyone know what happens to Permanent Camo? I have the permanent halloween camo on Iowa for example, it is linked only to Iowa...will it get stored until I get the Iowa again or is it gone for good?
If u dont have it in the inventory then am sory for u

i believe he said camos get sent back into the inventory for use again later.

There is no +xp boost for everytime you reset the line? Thinking you would progress faster through the line? I always thought so, but I guess I mixed it up with the bureau points.

Yes, you can stack those as much as you want.

A question: What happens if you are out of space in the reserve for captains, not a single spare captain slot in the reserve, and you reset a line with all them captains sitting in the ships?
They have to go somewhere, right?
So if you or anyone can shed a light on the matter - the captains of the ships that are reset don't go missing in action? Does the reserve expand for them?
That's a good question and I don't know. I think I heard somewhere that it tells you you need to get more reserve spaces before you can do the reset

This system is so time consuming acctually, should deff get a rework for sure or make it so you get more RB points, 5 tier 10 resets is a bit too much for non-premium players...
The RB was introduced to give players who have effectively "finished" the game something to do. It's not aimed at people who are still working on the majority of the tech tree lines. I agree with you in part, but as someone who falls into that "finished" category, I like the fact that I have something to do.

5 tier 10s researched...lovely. Must be nice for people who don't work 10-12 hours a day like I do...or even not at all, and live off the system to be able to grind that much. Nice one WG...it's a shame because your video was excellent and very well informative. 1 legendary module for my Yamato to make the dispersion not as crap is too much to ask for I guess...and people wonder why people would rather stuff be behind paywalls. I'd pay big bucks just to make that dispersion better.

Just 1 more question what happens if lets say you reset a line Free XP it and then the season ends? Can you stack the first reset bonus so instead of only 20k points you get 40k points with just 2 resets and buying the ships only once or do you have to remove the bonuses before you can reset again?
The only thing the season end does is give you a fresh X2 bonus. It doesn't remove anything (other than overwriting the old X2 if you haven't yet pressed the button)

AFAIK, if you had Moskva as a tech tree ship, it counts towards your five T10s. The rule is "have had five different tech tree ships researched on your account at any time" - you don't have to have them all researched at the same time.
Well this is not what I thought it was, I never really bothered, I've done two lines and got to T8/9 on a few others, Am I right in thinking Free XP is what is in the top righf of the screen because sometimes I research a ship and it takes nothing from the top right total but I can't find where that total is displayed, Help 😩
Yes, Free XP is the top left number. It has to be spend actively. If you've played a ship, you'll have XP on that ship, and that's what gets used to research the next ship up. You can use FXP to bridge the gap and shorten the process if you have some and want to do that, but I don't recommend it for new players because gaining experience at lower tiers is really important. If you don't, and rush up a line, you'll quickly find yourself out of your depth. Play across the tiers and nations initially, not up them.
At time of recording, ship XP is shown above where you see the ship's component parts - guns, engines, hulls. However this tab is getting an update soon and will look a little different when 0.9.6 hits in a couple of weeks.

Another question for you @Statsbloke and guys: lets say you reset a line in the last day of the season, x2 is what you get (if you didn't reset in that season).
Then the very next day (first day of the new reset season) you free XP the same line, it and reset again, do you get x4?

Yeah it's a mechanic for longer-term players, but it'll be there when you get there.

Great video and great explanation. The only thing i hate about the research bureau is the 50% loss in credits. It's fair enough in a normal setting of selling a ship but if you are resetting a line like it never existed then the original purchase amount of the ship and its modules should also be refunded in my opinion.
When you consider the purpose of the mechanic - to be a resource sink - it makes sense, though. If you didn't lose half of your credits, it wouldn't remove anything from the pool.
WG will happily sell you credits or convert dubs to credits. 🐋

Great guide. I am personally on my way to regrind the american DD's for the 4th time. So after this, I will have my Gearing with a 6x RP multiplier. Hahaha
Here's something i just learned the hard way - if any of the ships that get reset have ship XP sitting on them, instead of staying put, its all dumped, USELESSLY, onto the tier 1 of the branch. Really enraging...

Still hate it as it only served as a Free xp sink and Credit sink also a XP conversion temptation. You only need to win 1 game in co-op if I want to play my Leander I can just play it without resetting. If it was to entice lower tier play you would get points on all tiers and have to do more than 1 game...
I am gonna use Free XP on the IJN Gun boat DDs only cause I want Seigfried so watching this... I hate that I have to use it regardless...
