    At last!! A true B&O proper speaker at something like a reachable price! Although Lab 50’s & 90’s are sublime, they are crazy expensive for most folks, these, although not cheap are much more sensibly aimed. Steve, I like your summary quote ‘Beolab Penta’s for the 21st Century’!!! Owning 3 pairs of Penta Labs they have always been my favourites, (save for the 50’s & 90’s obviously). Having had a pair of 8000’s which although stunning to look at, always lacked a proper bass capability, I was never struck personally with the look and style of the Beolab 5’s....and as for all these small smart speakers they have launched in recent times - i will pass on them all....but these new Beolab 28’s really are fabulous modern truly B&O in their looks, and I am very happy to hear from both yourself and John at B&O Mcr that they also sound as good as they look!! These are DEFINATELY on my future B&O list....have to get saving up 😃😃

      @@soundsheavenlyBeocenter 9000 has pre-amp outputs to feed any analogue active speaker (designed for Beolab 6000 and 8000). I have not tried it but tape outputs are without volume control, the pre-amp output is under volume control. Beolab 28 have their own volume control and I have found advantages to control the pre-amp and power amp (of active speakers) levels separately when available.
      If you have a good working Beocenter 9000 and use with active speakers I doubt there is much to gain, other than powerlink, in getting the Beocenter 9500.

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly  Год назад +2

      Yes, I regularly help customers to use the volume controlled pre-amp outputs of Beocenter 9000, as well as Beomaster 5000 and 5500 with Beolab speakers, so I know that his works well. Although Beolab 28 has their own volume control, using the pre-amp outputs of the BeoCenter gives the choice of whether to use the B&O app or the remote control for volume adjustment when tape or radio, while the fixed volume Tape outputs work well with the app being used for volume control

    March 2023 and second hand prices begin to be affordable LOL. I jumped at getting a one year old pair for just over half the current retail price in gold with light oak. The gold finish and oak frets are really very nice but B&O should be really ashamed at the premium they put on these flimsy bits of "wood" - same with the Beosound Emerge and Level.
    Already available for over a year and still the Beolab 28 will not multi-room with other Mozart speakers. Beosound Level and Emerge seamlessly link to each other but any combination with Beolab 28 and all are distorted and have drop out. Multi-room is so useful when working room to room listening to music or radio sources and fully solves the problem that every digital source adds a different delay - when the feature works!
    The added bass and clarity that these tower speakers have over the likes of a pair the 2.8 litre Beosound Level is immediately apparent, however it is not really much: not 4.4x (cost increase) as much. At modest listening levels, with internet radio and even lossless music the Levels are remarkably good and much easier to move around the home.

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly  Год назад +3

      Thanks, that is an interesting view. I think the Balance and Beolab 28 are much closer in performance than the Level, this is where the pricing becomes very interesting. B&O say they will have software ready by the end of 2023 to allow any Mozart based speakers to work as surround speakers with Beosound Theatre, I think this is long overdue. Cabling Beolab 28 speakers (both Ethernet and audio cables where applicable) usually avoids any drop-out issues.

    • @geraldmcmullon2465
      @geraldmcmullon2465 Год назад +1

      @@soundsheavenly The 7.2 litre Balance has more bass than the Level taking advantage of a larger size. The price is 1.54x that of the Level. It is 2.82x increase to the Beolab 28. The range is well spaced in cost and incremental improvements to decide what fits into your rooms, your budget and where they become good enough not to want to spend more. The Level is the only one that is a passible stereo system in one box and also a portable speaker with 16 hours battery. Added flexibility for no compromise in sound quality.
      Being able to use Mozart speakers as surrounds with Beosound Theatre is an interesting and obvious thing to want to achieve. Adding WiSA to Mozart or by some other means. It would also seem that the Beosound Theater has more computing power than found in Beolab 18 or 28.
      I am surprised that B&O support suggest adding Beolab 18 and 7-4 to the Beolan 28 for surround and not mention how Beosound Theater might fit in.

      @@hakanolsson1372 the wisa compatibility with the Axiim Link is better than the SoundSend in my experience, tried both. The decoding of 5.1 to 4.0 (2x Beolab 28 front and 2x Beolab 17 surround) works very well with Axiim Link, the SoundSend is a hassle. The movies or music settings that should decode according to the WiSA Association helpdesk do a very poor job. Maybe linking in the initial setup is a bit faster but the actual use was with many hiccups, volume change etc. I feel the direct USB connection and the setup through the TV menu just works better because the LG supports it. I'm still waiting for B&O to develop a Beosound Stage 2 that replaces a sound center since they shove LG Tv's in their eclipse line themselves. This would take care of wisa, and allow the same flexibility for Beolab users without having the oversized TV's in the room. I recommend a beoremote one with the Beolab's even for the minimal function of changing the soundstage from narrow to wide during wisa connectivity. The app doesn't work when the TV is active. Decoding PS5 5.1 works well too with the Axiim Link. I hope my feedback helps others since the information and knowledge I got was trial and error by buying the actual transmitters etc.

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly  3 года назад +4

      Thanks! B&O have always produced a combination of sound quality and design excellence, so there have sometimes been styling details that don't give a specific change to the sound. Hi Steve. I'm new to the channel but have been a B&O fan for many many years! My question is I currently have the Beosound 9000 Cd Changer hooked up to Beolab 9"s which I love! How would you compare the new 28's to the 9's? Would love to have streaming ability for sure but also would love if you think this would be worthy upgrade? Thanks.

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly  3 года назад +2

      Hi, glad you found my channel! Yes, the Beolab 28 is certainly a very worthy upgrade, they really bring your music to life compared to older Beolab speakers like Beolab 9 (these are still good speakers, but technology has greatly improved since they were made). Well worth having a listen to Beolab 28 in store, I can help with cables to link them to your 9000 system if you decide to go ahead!

    • @geraldmcmullon2465
      @geraldmcmullon2465 Год назад

      The only reason I can find to upgrade from Beolab 9 is appearance and that they are "older" (parts, spares maintaining). If the taller narrow speakers fit better in you are paying several thousand more for that. Beolab 28 have on paper a little more bass and are a little louder if you are using them in a large hall. You may be happy to pick the Beolab 28 over Beolab 9 or 20 in a direct A/B comparison but in isolation at home with your choice of music only the nagging doubt that something might be better (tiny amount if any) would detract - just get Beolab 90 and be done. LOL

    Here’s a question. In Aus Beolab 28 is circa $22,000. A pre owned pair of Beolab 5’s is roughly the same?

    • @soundsheavenly

      Superb question! If you want the latest tech and the best sound quality at normal listening levels, then Beolab 28 wins hands down. Where Beolab 5 gains is if you need super high volume levels in a large room (eg. for a big home cinema) then they can provide more bass power at amazing volume levels

      Hi Peter, yes Beolab 28 is a great upgrade from Beolab 9, they are well worth it if funds allow. I haven't heard them on the wall mounts yet, but they have superb deep bass on the floor bases.

      @@soundsheavenly thanks Steve,
      I'm not an expert but I guess on the floor the bass is down firing and wall mounted is front firing. The beo9 are brutal when volume is up. Since we are listening more classical and 80-90s music i imagine the front firing is a but smoother so that should be fine. I want to clean my living room meaning losing the beo 9 and the 9000 on stand. The 28 on the wall with only 1 cable would be great. Not really using CDs anymore. I guess I could also link the 28 per Bluetooth to TV? It's a Sony A8J with 77 inch. Just the center is a problem. Right now I'm listening with an Ambeo.

    Great video, very informative as are all your videos. I am using my Beolab 28’s with a blue sound node 2 streamer. Initially I used the optical connection, but the speaker won’t wake up on music playback, so I changed to the analogue line in which is great as the speakers now wake up as soon as I stream. I noticed though that the volume level when connected to line in is around 25% lower than when connected with the optical cable. Do you know why? Is it something to do with the blue sound dac compared to the Beolab dac?? It would be great to understand. These are great speakers, to my ears very musical, only lacking a little openness but who knows that may still come as they run in.
