Correct, just because it is ‘legal’ does not make it permissible for us. We, as Muslims have a whole other set of laws to follow.
So just because dating is legal, does not make it permissible to us. Just because drinking is legal, does not make it permissible to us, etc...

Aslm alkm shkh, we are so grateful to have you as one of the most open minded and most educated in my opinion in the Muslim religious leaders today.I salute you to be able to open up in many subjects that most religious leaders never dared at least not while I was growing up and for this I pray that Allah Awj bless you even more knowledge and good health to continue doing your great job, "Allahumma ameen". I am in my late 50's have been suffering with severe headaches since my college years and still do suffer terrible migraines , Sinusitis and fluid in my head that may take days to drain. Alhamdulilah I consider myself to be very close to my Rabb and try my best to be a better Muslim everyday insha Allah. Recently one of my sons has recommended weed to me and I have done some research and did try chewing few leaves that gave me an instant relief with no any side effects that I get from the medicines prescribed by my Drs., of which are terrible they give me high heart palpitations, drowsiness and makes my days worst and so I quit taking them since I also suffer from Thyroid of which have to take my daily pills. I feel this weed is God given gift to cure many diseases and yes if used for that purpose only and not for the purpose of getting high then it shouldn't be haraam because the chemicals are the ones that intoxicate our blood and they end up with grave side effects. I also feel that this plant like many other things that are beneficial to humanity isn't made accessible but instead dangerous toxins like nicotine , alcohol, drugs are widely available for the only reason of destruction to humanity due to greed and destruction of religions. May Allah Swt., make us stronger in our faith and may sheiytan and his soldiers feel helpless and destroyed in their ugly acts.

Islam is a lot more reasonable and flexible than most people make it seem, all scary and punitive. Even pork is permitted if you're starving to death, with nothing else to eat. That's the extent of His mercy. As long as it's medicinal, I believe you should be fine. Recreational/abuse is not permitted, just like other substances. Ultimately, it's all up to God, and no man can definitively tell you how He will judge you. He knows our own personal battles better than anyone, and He is the most merciful. All we can do is strive to be better.

@@scare6262 Every individual letter in Arabic when praying benefits us in the hereafter, 10 deeds per letter, these surahs ie surah ikhlas have their own reward which I am not so sure of as in which surah has which specific reward. But ayat ul kursi is a major protection in this world (also in the akhirat) the protection in this world of ayat ul kursi is from the devils, if you pray ayat ul kursi before you sleep then til the morning you will be safe guarded from the devils and jinns, you will be guarded by an angel as you sleep, if prayed 3 times before sleeping then you will be guarded by many angels over the night. Ayat ul kursi will have its own specific reward with the surah ikhlas as well in the hereafter, but we should be more focused on before that ie judgement day, on that day the Holy Quran will speak for us or against us, if we are constantly reciting the Holy Quran throughout this world then on judgement day the Quran e Majid will speak for us and it will vouch on our behalf, it will ask for forgiveness us for us on that day. This is more important than the rewards received after that in the heavens.
Btw surah ikhlaas, along with the final 2 surahs in the Quran e Majid are also a remedy for black magic. When magicians do their thing to get the jinn attached to a person its their ritual use that persons belongings and they will tie strings to it and this strings will have knots in them. These knots must be there in order for their sorcery to work, if magic has been done on a person and you pray surah iklaas along with the last 2 surahs in the Quran e Majid and this is prayed on the person, then the knots will become undone, each knot will be undone as each surah is prayed.

@@scare6262 in the grave the Quran will come and say not to punish the person, the Quran will be a helper in the grave and on the day of judgement, but it must be prayed, honored and acted upon through the persons life for this to happen after. I feel as though I must caution you to make the correct intention when praying, don't do it for the reward, ofcourse I'm not saying don't expect the reward, do so, but when you pray do it with the intention of pleasing the Almighty. The sincerety in what we do is so important I can't emphasize it enough. If a person does a deed then he or she will be rewarded for the deed, if a person does a deed with immense sincerety then the reward for this deed will be muliplied to 700 times and above, depending on how the sincere one is when doing the deed.

Salam I'm a psychiatry doctor so I'm answering from medical side not Islamic side.
THC is the psychoactive part of cannabis. It is what makes people relaxed, happy but also what tips people into psychosis. This is why people smoke weed-they apparently like the relax and happy feel.
CBD is also part of cannabis but it doesn't have the psychoactive properties and is not addictive (hence why some countries are looking to legalise this for treatments such as epilepsy) . It counteracts the psychoactive side effects of THC so you don't become psychotic. However nowadays in weed there is less and less CBD so that is why modern day cannabis forms like skunk is so powerful and can cause really horrible psychotic symptoms which are difficult to treat.
It is wrong when countries say weed is harmless and let's legalise it. We see in the psychiatry field this is not true. But then again alcohol, one of the most harmful drugs out there is pretty much normalised and legalised in most countries and look where it gets us- addiction, cancer, liver problems, cardiovascular problems etc.
I don't know enough about CBD in medical treatments but just be aware there are some companies claiming to sell CBD oils which cure cancers and do miracle things. If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

Mufti Menk, I've just come across you on RUclips, and I just want to thank you for talking about this topic in such a real and sensible way that people can relate to, without being over-imposing. I have been through a lot in my life and I smoke weed morning until night on most days to get rid of depression and anxiety, and have done so for almost 10 years. I live in Europe so I have easy access to it. I've also acknowledged that it exasperates depression/anxiety in the long-term, and also hinders my motivation. I know I will not die without it, and have taken breaks from it, but it is hard to break the habit completely. During Ramadan I don't smoke until I break my fast, which is already a huge step for me. I know it sounds ridiculous to Muslims who don't have these things to worry about, and it might seem dumb that I feel some sense of achievement for overcoming things Im not even meant to be doing, but I do feel good about it. Trust me guys, anybody smoking, it's a waste of time and life and money if you're doing it everyday recreationally. Time flies by, my memory over the last decade is a complete blur, which is sad. Memories are all we have to look back on when we are old. I want to have the will-power to stop altogether. And I am determined to at least quit for Ramadan and see where it goes from there. I quit drinking around 3 months ago, and I love it. I am probably going to smoke again tonight, and hopefully tomorrow is where it stops. Hopefully God will get me through.

I was addicted to weed when i was only 16. But alhamdulillah i succeed to quit and it's been almost a years I'm living just fine without it. I was so addicted that i always used to fight with my parents don't listen to them only thing i cared is when and how to smoke weed. My happiness was dependent on that. But the truth is happiness is only depends on you. Nothing can control you untill you let them. So at a point i tried to quit smoking weed so i kept myself as busy as possible and i did what i love doing. I started playing football and played a lot of video games just to make myself busy do i don't think about smoking. And of course I did all of these beside praying everyday. And it took me only like 1.5 months to quit of which i was addicted for more than a year and never thought I'm gonna quite it anytime soon. You just to believe in yourself and allah...
So yeah.. may allah bless you all :)

Salaam alaikum wa rahmatullahi ta'Ala wa barrakahtuh my dear brother and teacher. Shukran shualykran shukran!!!! JazakAllah khair dear brother Mufti!! Masha'Allah I am SO happy you touched down on this topic, subhan'Alllah. I feel we as an Ummah need to discuss this subject more often, ESPECIALLY in the countries where it IS Medicinally and or Recreational. It especially bothers me when we see our brothers and sisters consuming tobacco as if it were Halal. Tens of thousands die each year from cigarettes. Wallahi I swear I as a believer in Islam, AND a believer in medicinal marijuana I just really wish we could bring this topic up more in our Ummahs, Insha'Allah ta'Ala. Anyway, i am blessed to have heard this little khutba from dear brother and teacher Mufti Mink, BarrakAllahu Feekum dear brother. Make a trip our to Portland Oregon someday insha'Allah ta'Ala! it would be an HONOR, and such a barrakah to have you Khateeb and Imam a Khutba insha'Allah ta'Al. Salaam Alaikum. Not only to Brother Mufti, but to all the other brothers, and sisters out the Ummah! Alhamdulilah for this beautiful, peaceful, deen. Islam has saved my life, and helpe me grow so much as a man in God all mighty. Islam has made this walk with my Raab in Dunya so much easier an simpler. I was so confused before because so many religions contradicted each other and the things in the prior scripture I just felt had been Plagerized. Forgive me for misspelling that. I just feel that I believe in the old scriptures but I feel man has been dishonest and subhanAllah thats why Islam and our wonderful Prophet Muhammad PBUH came to be Alhamdulilah. To get us back on the right track! Again I was down a dark road and Islam really helped save my life. Allah SWT, my Ummah, the brotherhood... I dunno where I would be today IF I didnt have this in my dunya. Allahu Akbar

Asalamualikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh brothers and sisters,
I come from a background and culture where smoking marijuana is seen as normal, even though everything within you as a human being knows its wrong.
Islamically everyone always ask where does it say in the Quran you cannot smoke it comes from the earth etc.
    Surah: Al Ma'idah Verse/Ayat 90
    Surah: Al Baqarah Verse/Ayat 219
In relation to intoxicants drugs that are abused personally I think definitely fall into that category.
Brothers and sisters I ask that you make dua for these people as they see no wrong in their doing Insh'Allah they see right from wrong. Take care nuff love brothers and sisters!
Mufti, my brother keep them coming your humour and realness is what the younger generation need, relatable circumstances and open mindedness not just dictating the deen and expecting everyone to be the best all the time Subhan'Allah brother I make dua you keep up the good work and the substance of your dawah only increases Ameen.

He was banned from his country for curing cancer and not charging people for it. It also depends on each person's situation and also intention. I also think it has to do with the oil, not the ones you smoke. THC oil is healthy.

Take good advice ; weed makes you the opposite of intelligent , in addition it prevents you from your religious duties , if your suffering Allah provides you the best help , also weed only benefits the seller ; medicine is always abused remember medicine is not a cure its a temporary solution for a greater problem ; seeking your connection with Allah is better ; to the note about seizures if your suffering to that extent then its not a recreational need it's to comfort you during the process and as human beings we all need to be incline to the suffering and lend a goodly loan no matter if its metaphysical or emotional comfort!

You are so against it that you have trying to change the truth about the medicinal purposes of marijauna, perhaps you dont know but cbd an component within marijauna has helped many ppl from certain diseases, not just as “comfort” as you described it, but actually helped curing the people from certain diseases, you dont believe me? Of course not , then do Some research before spitting out false judgements.

Did you know ppl make clothes out of weed, as you can make fibre out of it.. you probably didnt knew this, hmm thats strange I thought you were speaking about intelligence while apparently you are the one who is lacking. Its because of arrogance and fear of the truth you’re limited in your thinking, marijauna could help you with that tho, try cbd oil. Allah knows best.

Salam mufti saheb ive been suffering from some problems and was taking weed, it would help keep me calm and lower the pain in the head. It can be used for medicinal purpose but not for high and can be very addictive. Ive stopped smoking AlhumduLillAh and dont want to have it anymore may Allah make it easy for us who are suffering and cure us. jazkAllah khair

True. But doctors do not recommend ‘smoking’ the plant (cbd strain or otherwise). Buring the plant releases carcinogens that are harmful. CBD vaporizers, pills, oils, creams...are a better option.

Hasaani Amani' Dezo the majority of scholars agree that smoking cigarettes is also haram. This is based on multiple verses in the Quran that say we shouldn’t harm our selves, harmful things to the body are haram. Basically if it does more damage than good. It’s haram. And we all know cigarettes are full of toxins, they have very little benefit if any at all.

As salamu Alaykum Shiekh, The CBD is all the medicinal benefits without the THC which is what gets you high. So my Question is if I'm taking the CBD for just the medicinal benefits is it Halal? Jazakallahum khairun

please talk about vaping and shisha pens. This is now something that is quite common in the UK amongst Muslim men and women.
