Edsel vs. Tesla Shootout: Worlds Fastest 1958 Edsel drag races a 2018 Tesla Model 3 Performance

We finally did it!! We pulled together the Edsel versus Tesla shootout! Electric versus old school big block Ford. New technology versus old know-how. 60 years separates these two cars, but the competitive spirits brings these two cars together.
This was awaited episode and the Nostalgia Super Stock races at the Smoking Amarillo Dragway provided a perfect venue for the shootout. The weather was perfect, the track was sticky, but in the end mechanical failure ultimately led to a victor.

Maybe a better gas representative would be an early-60s Mopar 413 Cross-Ram.
Great torque, but also a before-its-time air induction system that was far superior to anything back then.
Chrysler engineers thought that long induction pathways for the intake air would allow the engine to pull air so powerfully and fast that it would cause a shock wave, where basically the tremendous vacuum effect would create that shock wave of air forcing intself into the engine at a higher speed and possibly pressure than any other type of air intake.
An example of the many times Chrysler engineers were ahead of everyone else....all this back in 1960.
I recall reading the 0-60 time for a 1961 Dodge full-size sedan was I think just at six seconds....which is astounding now, but was incredible for 1961.

This was a fun project. You did a great job on the video, not to mention all the prep! I misquoted the cost to charge it up, the $14 is what it costs on average to charge both Model 3s per month with our rates. It costs about $3 to put in a full tank of electrons in one of them.

I think electric cars have that tremendous advantage of maximum torque virtually right upon take-off....so really no matter how much I love classic Fords, Mopars ( especially Edsels ),
I can't see how ANY gasoline engine that's practical for everyday use can exceed a powerful electric.
You'd have to build a gas engine with tremendous torque but also great higher-rpm breathing.
