A lot of RUclipsrs are saying this but I just want to put this out there as a dev for both macOS and iPadOS - both platforms are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. MacOS uses the AppKit framework under the hood and it is NOT designed for a touch device AT ALL. iPadOS uses the UIKit framework which powers all TOUCH devices under the hood. Not the same at all. I don’t think Apple will ever be able to port MacOS directly to the iPad. But who knows. Just saying don’t hold your breath.

Appreciate the insight! As long as we have better task management and multiple windows inside an app, I’ll be ok. However, if not OBS, I need SOMETHING to work as my video recorder while simultaneously operating other apps like Logic or Discord, etc.

Just put Virtualization enabled on iPad Pros and problem solved with a sub from Parallels in the App store.
This will serve most pro uses cases (along with remote desktop or cloud pc) until future new OS replaces both iPadOS/MacOS and merges Apple OS across it's devices which is what will be the future OS and avoid Apple wasting time mergin current iPadOS and MacOS and pleasing no-one. That said you can see they must be working on a merged system: First iPad Hardware converges and secondly MacOS UI is closer to iOS in part to be consistent with iOS users...

I would like a unified design language, even if they behave differently depending on the hardware

  • @ZeerakImran

The difficulty is actually designing an OS that optimises for both touch and pointer. The touch system's apps will have to be redesigned from the ground up by the developers. And the developer's haven't done that so I don't think they will after the OS get's some new features which aid its multi-tasking capabilities or likewise similar limitations. The settings app and ios needs an update anyway because it doesn't make sense currently and seems like its stuck in between a future update which will utilise its current features and the older version of ios which didn't have the scaffolding for the future upcoming update. Consider this, do you just want a macbook with a touch display? Because that product is a flop. Do you want an os that runs on touch and mouse? The surface line as well as Windows is a flop and a compromise in performance and functionality. Do you want an updated ipad OS which is better designed? Yes, that's awesome. Same for iPhone too. Both need an update. But most importantly what we need, are good iPad apps that offer a lot in exchange for their price. Not crappy subscription models that you only really use for one specific tool but have to pay a subscription for. The settings app (in ios, ipados and macos) and files app need a huge update. Macos, ipados and ios also need to be more polished with their bugs fixed. I have never seen apple software be so buggy and unstable as it's been in the last 12 months.

Good take on iPadOS! Thanks. As a long time professional iPad Pro user, imho there are only three major things that iPadOS needs in order to become a true professional OS: 1) a TRUE file system (almost like MacOS), 2) a TRUE virtual memory management, 3) a TRUE support for multitasking and multiwindow
With that said...I believe that all those things will never happen because Apple have to sell both Macbook and iPad, they don't want to kill none of them.

The main problem here is that certain websites still don’t function properly on any iPad even the most powerful expensive iPad Pro. Websites such as government, education, university, and others, even sites from my work field. Most recently I was renewing my defensive driving course online and even that couldn’t manage when I got to a certain page and I had to finish it off on my MacBook instead. Good video. I bought 2 M1 iPads Pro when they launched and I saw that the came with 8 Gigs of UM. Thought the M stood for Mac and that I would be able to run MacOS (AND THE APPS) on it. What a dissapointment! You cannot do serious computing on iPadOS. So I now use them as drawing tablets with the pencil; and as secondary screens for a M2 MacBook Air (which is a fantastic COMPUTER even with the wee bit of UM that  thinks we deserve). At the cost of these tablets we should demand that we can boot Mac on it imo. The MS Surface Pro is what the iPad with M chips should be ie a COMPUTER with APPS that can also be used as a tablet with a pencil.

Also without making more desktop apps available, I can not take "Pro" claim seriously. I own M1 Ipad Pro with full setup, I do not see the point of updating/getting these devices. You can get the cheapest Apple tablet and it will have the same experience.

I've been saying for a long time that the Elements of the UI and Touch Friendly Design are Optimized amazingly for the iPad. The problem seems to be Apple just doesn't want to take the MacOS Feature set and Capabilities and optimize them for a touch friendly interface. Every time they "Do", it winds up being nerfed to the point where It shouldn't be considered professional anymore. I like Drew, but one thing I despise is his idea of just plop MacOS straight on the device, be it Dual-Boot or whatever. I find that would then reverse the issue and switch from lacking feature set to lacking of optimization. Apple, the company famous for doing it the own way, especially when it comes to software, appears to be extremely lazy when it comes to iPadOS, and the past 6 years have been painful to watch!

I'll preface this by saying I agree the iPads OS needs to be pushed further down the road. Thinking of the people around me that use and love the iPad, it's three pre teen granddaughters, my non tech savvy wife, a couple of work mates and myself who works in a corporate sales environment. I multi task with apps like safari, numbers, PDF expert, notes and mail. I recently asked my step daughter who works in corporate advertising if anyone in her world was using an iPad. She said no, Macs. My point is, I think RUclips content creators mostly live in a bubble or echo chamber. Bringing MacOS to the iPad would ruin the experience for the users I personally know. That doesn't mean I don't want it to evolve further and there are things I would like to see fixed like the folder app and smart lists. Personally for photo and video editing I'll continue to use my MBP. It does that well. Cheers!

    • @RandyNexus
      @RandyNexus  27 дней назад +2

I hear ya, I’m not familiar with what other RUclipsrs are necessarily saying. But my overall stance is that an iPad PRO needs to behave as such. I agree with your example, but if it’s just regular iPads carrying the weight, that’s fine for those examples. Dropping over $1000 before accessories to get the same specs as a Mac, it needs to hold up on the OS side, and currently it doesn’t. But I’m hopeful

Not an iPad Pro Review: Why iPadOS Still Doesn’t Get the Basics Right
You're absolutely right. The solution is for Pro iPads to run Virtualization because Apple will not upgrade iPadOS solving the above listed problems nor will it port MacOS features due to early design reasons and not until competition starts to eat up the tablet iPad market with superior 2-in-1 alternatives.
With Virtualization you could run MacOS, Windows 11 or Linux via Parallels with a sub to the App store until the above big change by Apple probably some years away at the earliest.

I’ve owned every iPad since the 2 gen. I’ve owned every mini and every pro. I have the M4 fully spec’d out including cell service. The problem isn’t the iPad. The first problem is people. If you want a laptop get a MacBook. If you want a 2 in 1 go to windows. If you want an iPad get an iPad. Know what you’re buying. Quit buying the iPad thinking it’s a computer and then complaining about what it doesn’t do.
The second problem is developers. For something’s you don’t have the names on the platform and with other things you do have the big names but they cripple the app on purpose. Open your mouth and flood the developers emails. Complain about the missing features demand the missing features but, expect to pay for the missing features. Which brings me to the third and biggest problem.
The consumer. You want a computer experience but don’t want to pay computer prices because it’s “just an app”. Wrong that app is software. You pay software prices. There are to many cheap consumers complaining about inexpensive apps being to high as it is. I’ve heard people complain over paying $20 or $30 for an app that is a 1:1 port of its $100 desktop counterpart. I say to those people shut up you should still be paying $100 to get it on the iPad it’s the same thing as the computer!!!! That’s why you’re not getting computer like experiences because you really don’t wanna pay for it.
Blame Apple for file management. Blame devs for holding back features and blame the consumers for not investing enough in the devs to inspire them to come to the iPad and take it as a serious platform.

    • @RandyNexus
      @RandyNexus  25 дней назад

I disagree with everything you just said. One, you said “if you want an iPad, get an iPad” can you define for me what an iPad is and what it does? Also, your problem 1 & 3 are the same: it’s people. Macs are cheaper than iPads when you do a 1:1 spec out. Compare both to their respective tiers (Airs and Pros), Mac is literally cheaper. And ultimately, you’re ok with the limitations of iPadOS for your Pros and Airs and minis and everything you’ve ever bought, great! I’m happy for you. But to dismiss everyone else for suggesting improvements is stupid and ridiculous. What may work for you and all your iPads don’t necessarily work for everyone else. And MY point in this video is about maximizing the hardware and the new M4 chip with the software. iPadOS isn’t worth crap on the M4 right now, that can’t be done on any other chip. And don’t reference FCP or apps with me, I’m talking about the operating system getting fixed first.

@@RandyNexus Well first of all what is “Pro” to you and “Pro” to me are different things. An iPad is a pro device for me I can edit photos from start to finish without needing a MacBook. I can also do it anytime and anywhere without being handicapped from not having WIFI around because I have service everywhere I go. Something a Mac can not do. I have a M1 Pro 16” MacBook Pro I can turn to if I wanted and since I’ve gotten the M4 I haven’t. For you to suggest an iPad isn’t pro because you can’t fully use it that way is stupid. If you bought an iPad knowing its limitations and then want to cry about it makes you just as stupid because you knew the limitation going into it. Buy a Mac and shut up then. I’ve made beats from start to finish, recorded vocals start to finish, mixed and mastered albums start to finish, edited weddings, family portraits, senior portraits, and completed sports composites from start to finish. I also shot an entire session last week tethered to my iPad Pro. I have no limitation. I have friends that are artist that use the iPad for all of their art work. Maybe it just isn’t for you and there’s nothing wrong with that. Believe me I argued your side for long enough. Apple needs to do this, needs to do that, needs to add this and that. And you know what? Apple is gonna do what they wanna do when they wanna do it. You either deal with it or move on. Once I got out of my own way of thinking this is supposed to be like a MacBook I learned what an iPad truly was. It’s a different approach, a different mindset and a different tool. Accept it and keep it or say f it and let it go.

Don’t assume what I need or don’t need from an iPad and think I went into it and just accepted its limitations. The fact that you even acknowledge its limitations is EXACTLY my point! I work off of Procreate and LOVE it! It sucks for FCP and Logic. I can’t do compound clips, for example. I can’t copy/paste effects and attributions. Dude, if the iPad is great for you, great! Then no harm in improving file management and everything else while you still get what you’ve wanted out of it. To say “shut up” and expect there to be change is ridiculous as well. Stop defending this company like you’re a senior Apple Exec. You’re not. You’re not an angle investor, you’re not anything but a customer who likes the product you bought. Great! But don’t be so ignorant to dismiss constructive criticism like we’re coming for YOU. It’s Apple, it’s fine. Don’t make it your identity ffs. Improvements on anything is ALWAYS welcomed, whether you personally need it or not. Valid constructive criticism is just that…constructive! It HELPS the process.

@@RandyNexus MF I complain directly to the company. I emailed them for years to bring logic and Final Cut to the iPad. I don’t make videos crying about it. I’ve sent hundreds of music artists the feedback email. Together we’ve sent in hundreds of complaints. I know where I stand at the end of the day I’ve never given Apple a break. But, now it’s just as much as the devs as it is Apple. I harassed and still harass adobe about their half ass photoshop. Since before Affinity and after affinity. I just don’t make complaint videos. I send real people that want to stand up to the company and devs links. I’ve laid off Apple for a little bit because I don’t need extensive management. For once I’m satisfied with the product after walking away from music and focusing on photography only. You wanna make a difference? Make a movement and let the people know where to go. Send them to a place to be heard don’t just give them a common area to complain.

You don’t make complaint videos, only complaint comments 🤣 dude I hear you, but it’s not that serious. You’re coming at customers who have constructive criticisms like it’s our faults lol. Your emails might work, but there’s more than one way to get Apple’s attention. My form is videos. Don’t come at me because you don’t like how I do it, I didn’t start this problem. I’ve spent thousands just like you. And apparently your emails don’t work, so I’m trying to my way. You’re getting all flustered for the wrong reasons. I ain’t the problem.

Here's what you're missing... Apple doesn't want it to replace your Mac. They want you to buy both. So, iPadOS will always (intentionally) fall short.

iPadOS is going to be a dinosaur-OS because Apple will update it with minor improvements until they discard it ultimately when they can deploy a unified-OS across devices in the future.

I’d like to see some sort of unified OS, but I’m pretty doubtful on that

Ipad OS is perfect for what it is. Cut it out.

If it was, people wouldn’t be complaining about shortcomings. It’s ok if it’s perfect for you, but that doesn’t mean it’s working out for everyone. ESPECIALLY if you’re paying Pro prices on a Pro model. The OS is far from perfect.

The way apple is treating iPad is like buying an overpriced toy that can only do so little….why increase its power if it can only do what iPhone and old iPads does best ? I mean there is no sense in putting a MAC system level chip on the iPad Pro if you’d already think babyos is powerfully enough for your needs. There is a reason they have different versions of iPad for different purposes then why subject the pro device to a mediocre level of functionality. The Pro never feels like PRO at all!

Just another RUclipsrs copying what everyone is... MacOS would be a joke on ipad. Ipads have millimetre thin batteries, able to run powerful applications at this size due to the hilghly optimised applications on IpadOS. We do not need MacOS, we need MacOS features. Give us a better files app, just like Samsung has DEX. Eg a separate UI. Its not MacOS nor is it Windows. Its just Android, with a different UI. Its due to Side Loading. Apple needs to enable Side Loading apps, give us a more indepth Files App, more external functionality with monitors and SSD/ Hard drives.
MacOS would need a complete overall to run on ipad. IpadOS needs the overall, i want MacOS programs for sure. Sometype of translation software to use MacOS on IpadOS would be great.
Stage Manager should be like DEX. Opens a separate UI look and functions i agree! But not MacOS. This is a bandaid and such a basic outlook.
Ipads would need to be at minimum Macbook Air, for duel boot. We would need much higher ram. At base minimum, we would need 12-16gb base ram. Apple loves and bases itself off simplicity and being able to take off from where you left off last, so that means both OS would need to be running near at the same time or at bare maximum storing something on RAM.

I’m gonna be honest man, I stopped reading your paragraph once you said “just another RUclipsr copying…” I’m not referring to anyone, these are MY thoughts. I don’t see anyone else trying to run a channel and write music in Logic (something I do both in) and wanting to see a better experience in the iPad department. I stand by my statement: iPad is not at its full potential in software capabilities.

@RandyNexus I can understand that, and maybe I came off strong. I am just so tired of seeing people saying the same thing, without even thinking about the consequences of it and how it would like to affect the ipad. Please have a read.
I agree that, in general, I want full desktop apps and more functionality. But not MacOS, that would not work on the ipad. It would take everything away. Unless they did a huge overall, at that point. Why not just over haul ipadOS. Give it a second UI like DEX is, inside this UI ( new stage management) allow a MacOS like OS, that uses some type of translation software to use MacOS apps. A duel boot wouldn't be good and a full MacOS would be even worse.

Now THAT I can get behind with. I say macOS to drive a point home with this. macOS is fully optimized with any Mac. I don’t feel the same way with iPadOS on iPads. So much good hardware and the software runs essentially the same regardless of the chip. But I would LOVE to see a DEX like feature optimized for this! And I don’t want to screw with macOS, for clarification. I want to enhance iPadOS even more to utilize these great chips in them!

@RandyNexus the problem with ipads and even mobiles in general. They're trying to tailor to the lower end models. Apple needs to unfortunately just say from this WWDC. This update will only work on ipads with M1 and above chips, or these features require in the OS The M chips . M1 + all have 8gb ram for starters, which will help run a much better OS. Then there is, just like Macs/macbooks. They're all M chips now, not Intel. To streamline and optimise further, there needs to be a manageable range. I think M1 chip onwards would be okay now and not to controversial. You want a nice tablet, pre M chip. If you want a more hybrid tablet that can function at or near the laptop level. You need M1 and above to handle the OS due to ram and CPU demands.
