  • Andrew, Mitch, and Neil just got back from a four-day ride on the Straddle and Paddle, a beautiful 180-mile bikepacking route in Northern Minnesota that starts on the shores of Lake Superior, loops up to the Boundary Waters, and eventually meanders back down to the big lake via forest service roads, double-track dirt roads, and bike paths. In this video, Andrew, Mitch, and Neil share the rigs and gear they used on the route.

ayyyy peanut butter ramen! i love the shin but my favorite w/ pb is beef ramen.. think 'satay'; lots of options to doctor this with: sriracha packets, chives, whatever veggies u like (i like baby spinach), beef jerky (which rehydrates a little when you put it in hot water), curry powder, avocado, seaweed ... just to name a few

(especially that most of the vintage bikes has rack and water bottles mounts ..)

I used a modified 1985 Trek 420 to do the Kettle Valley Rail trail in BC, after riding to the start along the North Cascades Highway. My first tour with the BP bags was with a 1980 Talbot. I was fine but I did get a new MEC COTE to use on gravel. I copied the geometry of the Tabot so the main diff was the disc brakes. I also added a Redshift stem suspension and seatpost suspension. The new steel frame is livelier than the very old one.

I loved seeing what all of you carried, and how you guys carried it !!!
I am looking into getting into bikepacking at 56 yrs old, possibly on my Fuji Sportif LE 1.0.
I just don't like the "elitist" attitudes of the people who can afford the things that they all seem to "need" to have.
But, a lot of them, in the Chicagoland area, seem to have a pretentious aire about them.
I would like to see a breakdown of the cost of all of the gear you guys had, because I am on a fixed income (retired) and use a lot of military surplus stuff (that I have acquired throughout my military career), with a few more "modernish" equipment (and old Timex Cycle Trainer GPS Bike Computer - 2010'ish, and the 2014-? Fuji), and would like to know what I could afford to "upgrade" to.
    Thank you in advance.
Keep up the great work !!!

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
