Godzilla (2014) Comic-Con Teaser Trailer

- The first promotional video for the 2014 Godzilla movie. Only worth posting because it was never posted on the official studio channel. I assume it was created for a much earlier iteration of the movie since it's so tonally different and includes a monster that wasn't in the movie.
- Кино
The fact that the dialogue over this teaser is the real Oppenheimer speaking about his creation of the atomic bomb just makes this more chilling.
It's fitting especially because the bomb dropping on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the inspiration for the original Godzilla.
The real oppenheimer post credits scene:
"69 years later..."

This is the best teaser I have ever seen. the use of Ligeti's Requiem and the Oppenheimer dialogue over it is chilling.
@@louisecheckley5423that one was so goofy
The fact I realized that Oppenheimer’s speech was put in this makes this teaser so much better
You beat me to it, dammit!😖
I get chills every time I rewatch this trailer, the original version looked so beautiful
It’s that Oppenheimer voiceover that really gives off the sense of power that we see
I’ve got some bad news for you my friend… there was no “original version” of the 2014 Godzilla movie. This trailer was created to announce that a new Godzilla film was coming, that the Big G would indeed be fighting another monster, and that they didn’t f-k him over like Sony did!
This entire trailer was created to essentially tell Comic Con attendees “Were putting the GOD back in GODZILLA!”
@@NoahDaArkthere were originally two other different monsters before they were changed to the MUTOs
This should of been it
This portrayed Legendary's Godzilla perfectly. When you see this trailer after watching Godzilla vs Kong, it feels like a completely different universe. I feel like they took away the intimidation and the more grounded/darker tone and just decided to turn the monsterverse into a campy science fiction franchise. What made 2014 so good is that it showed the terror monsters can inflict in a realistic setting. The human characters from 2014 were way better as well, they were likeable and played a great role for the plot.
I mean when you line em up against gvks character yeah
Gareth was very cinematic and understood scale. As much I love King of the Monsters for Ghidora,Rodan etc. this was better directed. The scenes had so much impact. The Tsunami, Airport, Golden Gate Bridge, and lead up to the final battle is so well done. Characters were thin but Kickass\Scarlett Witch did just fine.
Well I'm not sure if your statement was meant as a criticism towards the Monsterverse but I will say that you at least need to understand that the whole point of the Monsterverse was being a campy yet mindlessly fun. The Monsterverse is kinda like a homage to the classic Showa-era Godzilla movies. I mean I do agree that I prefer the more serious and grounded approach on Godzilla but it's also okay to make them stupid fun. I mean there's always been two types of Godzilla movies anyways. It's always either goofy or dark. No in between.
I absolutely agree. While the newer monsterverse movies are great, that sense of scale, fear, and realism is basically gone entirely. 2014 is definitely my overall favorite in the franchise and I do wish they followed the same if not a similar approach in the other monsterverse movies.
Godzilla movies go one of two ways: Godzilla is a result of man's hubris and recklessness and is our reckoning for playing with nature in a dark tale of destruction. OR Godzilla! Boom boom pow! Cartoon physics!! MONSTER BATTLE! RAWR! Colors! Explosions! Monster fight! *Insert Michael Bay explosion memes*
Unfortunately Legendary decided they would rather have the latter because then they could have a shared universe of monsters that would appeal to all ages and make more money. Fortunately the Japanese movies have tended towards the former so they continue to give us movies that make Godzilla a dark force of nature. I guess we should be grateful for that at least.
That monster will never forgive us
The movie we never got. I've enjoyed the Goji's movies but this would've been great. A darker, chilling, more apocalyptic tone. Definitely fits the King
I mean the 2014 film did do a good job of capturing the somber tone of that original 1954 film. There should have been more destruction though I agree...more of a reflection of the toll on human life instead of focusing solely on one soldiers journey to find his family.
TOTALLY agree. This teaser is beautifully haunting. The whole movie could've been filmed just like this. Zero human characters. Just these small insignificant specks being eviscerated. A use of scale like this mixed in with full screen fighting? I hope, reeeeeally hope they do shoot a entire movie like this.
Im agreed with you, but if that Goji 2014 version would that happen it Will be classified like pg 16 or 18. Also when this teaser came out, Rooten Tomatoes said To Warner Bros to change the movie cause it will be boring and blah blah blah. So yeah: Rooten Tomatoes is always ruining movies
@@ColumbiaBeet That was something I really liked about Shin Godzilla, they actively acknowledge that a massive creature destroying skyscrapers isn't cheap and is very devastating and that not everybody is lucky enough to evacuate in time
YOU AND ME HAVE THE SAME BRAIN, like what if the movie was like this and have the mutos shinomura rockmutul pterodactyl and vishnu, it would be amazing
GODZILLA MINUS ONE looks like it is going to capture the type of energy this trailer gives off. I think those who love this teaser but feel that the final 2014 film didn't quite capture this same tone and energy will find that Godzilla Minus One will be exactly the kind of movie they are looking for.
I sure hope so.
And also Shin Godzilla (2016) does a decent job of capturing the horror of Godzilla.
“Didn’t quite”? Don’t you mean not at all?
👍
Well, this aged well.
the dialogue of Oppenheimer with godzilla still gives me chills even with Oppenheimer already out
Hearing J. Robert Oppenheimer's speech about how he feels about creating the atomic bomb is so chilling but also matches godzilla perfectly in my opinion. Since the whole point of the 1954 godzilla movie was to teach people about the dangers of nuclearization.
1954 Godzilla (or Goji) was basically a metaphor of Japan’s grief and devastation after the 1945 bombings. He was made exactly to portray the atomic bomb itself and the destruction it brings to humanity.
2014 Godzilla is no different from Goji. But he is more likely made to portray the effects nuclear weapons have on nature and the dangers of radiation. He himself was made from the nuclear bomb and not a metaphorical monster made to portray that fear.
And in 2023 both Oppenheimer and Godzilla would make cinematic history.
Here I am, back after 9 years from seeing the movie in cinemas. Now that oppenheimer's movie is here I remembered this teaser and still gives me chills and goosebumps. Thanks for uploading this teaser again 👍
I'm here for that reason also! Lol
The most impressive thing about this teaser for me was that it somehow didn't get shown to the general public at all until around a year after it originally dropped at Comic-Con.
*Before everything got leaked smh*
Oh I found it! Good ol pirate bay
This was the best Godzilla trailer
One year after watching this teaser, and it still gives me chills, this is what Godzilla 2014 should’ve been.
totally agree. It's crazy to see where the series veered towards hey? especially the last one, it really adopted the cringey marvel style humor that doesn't suit movies like this. We need a mature, rated r godzilla
@@thefinalballI hear you man! It did have that marvel tone , and I hated it ! Lmao, it should be more serious, but they still respected godzilla/kong, because it got serious when it had to be yk, and we know the G Man💪🏽 getting more powerful/stronger

I remember seeing the leaks that Mechagodzilla would be taken out by someone pouring a drink on his command console and I just didn't believe them because it was such an outrageously stupid and ridiculous concept. But lo and behold, they unironically used that as a plot point in GvK.
Hopefully the new in-house Toho movie will be much closer to the original spirit of Godzilla. Everything Japan has put out so far in this new era is pretty damn good.
@@CryosisOfficialhe drink didn't defeat Mecha. GvK was outstanding. Japan has been struggling with the series. Shin was pretty cool but not that great overall. The anime trilogy was horse shit. Singular Point was mid at best, even that is being kind. The new one they're releasing looks nice but its definitely taking cues from Legendary Godzilla.
@@lord34gaga Holy shit, you couldn't be more wrong lmao. Let me guess, you're american?
None of the monsterverse films truly lived up to the tone of this teaser. In some ways I feel like I’m still waiting for this movie.
Wish this was the route they had kept for the 2014 film and subsequent films moving forward. Shin Godzilla came close, but a truly horrific reimagining of the original 1954 Godzilla has been long overdue.
Blame toho
Nah blame the audience, they've always catered to the younger fans, not saying that it's wrong, but it would be nice to go back to the roots of Godzilla for once
I like how you can see the differences in this godzilla and the final one used in the movie. This godzilla looks a lot more animalistic and badass, especially with those jagged dorsal plates, like the ones in millennium godzilla.
Other than the snout shape, I don’t se any deference tbh.
@@MaceSecondAccount Yeah people have this idea that this teaser was for an earlier version of the movie that was scrapped… it was not.
This was merely Legendary letting people know a new Godzilla film was coming, and this time they were putting respect on the Big G’s name
@@NoahDaArk People seem to forget this is how teaser trailers used to be made, containing footage made exclusively for the trailer and not the actual movie. Teasers like these are a rare breed.
It's exactly the same as the final product😂😂
I like how you can see absolutely zero differences in this Godzilla and the final one used in the movie. This Godzilla looks exactly the same, with the jagged dorsal plates, like the ones in the millennium Godzilla. Honestly, I like this design very much and I'm glad it was identical to the final product.

I’m back here after watching Oppenheimer
Godzilla Minus One is the spiritual successor to this trailer.
Both IMO are the definitive Godzillas for this generation
Hard to believe this is part of the same "Monsterverse" we have today.
I love the films we are getting. But fuck me, this vibe is WHAT I WANT
They made it look like power rangers now
This shows human vs nature. we are getting protector version of same godzilla.
the film from outverse can simply show Human vs Godzilla with above tone.
I think Legendary should start thinking in this direction so we get different kind of adaptions of same monster
This hits different after Oppenheimer.
Ok, we all know that Gojira kinda represents the horrors of post war, the atomic bomb, the fear of it and all that...but after watching Oppenheimer, knowing musch more of all of this...this feels a lot different. Like having a full insight of the connections between one thing and the other.
truly an amazing trailer. the feeling it gives you cannot be described in words. its like being scared and amazed at the same time
It's kinda funny how the thing with Godzilla being synonymous with Oppenheimer has come full circle. You could say he's always been indirectly connected to him as Godzilla started out as not just a result of an atomic bomb test mutating a thought to be extinct dinosaur, but a living allegory for how destructive and catastrophic weapons such as those are, then came the teaser to this movie's teaser that had the famous quote overlaying it, and now this year we've had another serious Godzilla film set only two years after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki released 4 months after a biographical thriller flick about Oppenheimer.
The film gives me the plot twist: we know godzilla will be the antagonist of the film, but turns out he was actually both hero and anti-hero
So Oppenheimer was godzilla father
You know in a way you're not even wrong! The atomic bombs being droped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the inspiration for the original Godzilla.
Still without a doubt my favorite Godzilla movie. After seeing it from a different light from all the hate, this teaser reminded me of exactly why I love the film so much.
Okay guys to be fair, I came here again to this video because of the legendary quote where Oppenheimer is speaking 🔥
Me too! Wanted to hear the quote again because of the movie, but then remembered this trailer, and had to watch it again, and now I'm learning there's two new movies (on Toho and one Legendary) coming out within a year!
Yes and not only that this year we will get such an exciting crossover for justice league vs godziila vs kong coming out this October and it will have 7 issues! Man it feels good to be a big kaiju fan 😁
That unused monster actually looks terrifying IMO, They show so much of it yet I still can’t picture how it all links up, I have no idea how it’ll look in full! I’d hate to see that thing in real life
1:15 I remember how hyped I was when I saw this part “NO WAY!!!!”
this, this was the exact video that got me hooked into Godzilla
And down the rabbit hole you go my friend.
No wayyyy, you to!? I know this is a 11 month old comment. But man do I relate to you with what you commented! That’s so cool ha
Anyone else here after watching Godzilla Minus One? Seems like were gettint that horror tone.
I'm here after seeing the apple tv trailer for Monarch
*Nostalgia!* Remember watching this in denial it was real, cause something that AWESOME and look that EPIC could not possibly be in development. Now here we are after we've seen Godzilla battle King Ghidorah, Rodan, AND Kong on the big screen!
Yeah everything after 2014 was very bad. I mean, they were just made for kids!
Looks like toho is giving us this movie with Godzilla minus one. I wish the first Godzilla in the monsterverse would have been more like the teaser trailer.
Gojira minus one
Oppenheimer: the destroyer of worlds!
Me,35 year old single: this is fear...
Godzilla Minus One is going to give us this version of The Destroyer of Worlds.
Honestly this feels like Godzilla Minus One. Looks similar as well.
The most terrifying goji movie for me was 84.85.the return of gojira (godzilla) heisei era i was 8 when i watched it in91. Since then i watched all toho goji movies butt i was born in 1985. That,s fear
I am happy that Monarch : legacy of the monsters has this kind of tune
Even though it became pretty much impossible for me to find it again after it came out, I'd never forgotten about this trailer, and of course I looked it up after having watched Oppenheimer. It's only because of this trailer that I knew the quote.
imagine if the whole monsterverse stayed in a tone like this, without changes to the story somehow I think the monsterverse would be so much better
Oppenheimer post credit scene
That train scene was scary
First time i saw godzilla roar i lost my shits,i though it could be godzilla but i wasnt sure but when i saw him move through the smoke and roar i was so excited for this movie

Yo guys…
Who wants a comic/manga set in a Godzilla universe in this type of setting?
Im a longtime Godzilla fan and I just realized recently for the past decades the franchise was basically a WWE series monster edition
Godzilla minus one
This is how legendary Goji start his Carrier
I got so excited when this teaser dropped. I liked the film but the teaser gives a darker vibe. The soundtrack is Gyorgy Ligeti's Requiem which you may have heard before in 2001 A space Odyssey.
Sucks to know that we could have gotten a basically modern Godzilla 1954 movie but we can’t
Yea so minus one was amazing
*They did their best with 2014 but imo the “tone” went downhill after that*
@@ogsloppnbiscuiitz1108 yea the 2014 film was okay but this teaser really captured the 1954 tone so well. But obviously WB wanted their version of Godzilla to be more of a good guy instead of a force of nature that punishes humanity.

Godzilla Minus One
This is THE teaser trailer, not the a 2 minute teaser trailer that both Warner Bros. & Legendary posted
This was so much better than what we actually got. I really thought this would be like the original 50s Godzilla but done the way things can be done now. Dark and terrifying is what this promised. We needed someone like David Fincher to direct this
Gareth Edwards did a great job, it's just that the script was ass.
When there’s 201 likes and no dislikes is when you know how good a trailer is.
No dislikes now!
It helps that they don't track the dislikes publicly anymore...
What..was that creature with a ton of legs 😳
It just know as unnamed kaiju
@@excrementgaming9120 it’s name is:
A strange, dead monster, Vishnu.
That was the original villain Kaiju before they changed it to the MUTOs
If memory serves me correctly, it was actually an early version of what eventually resulted in MUTOs. They started with a monster that had multiple limbs and actually moved toward a more bug-like design, and you can more or less figure where it went from there. That said, I feel like the female was probably the first design they landed on, given that the male only has two sets of limbs (excluding the wings) while the female has three.
Still, yeah, they dropped the ball on quite a few things, but I'm not discontent with the MUTOs. Gareth Edwards is famed for making a movie called Monsters that has no monsters or cute, little message about how humans are the real monsters. He deliberately spent as much time away from big, clean, open shots as possible "to give the audience a good idea of how big they really are." A cute idea for *one camera shot.* Asswipe. lol
That nameless monster isn't an early version of the MUTOs. It was merely conjured up specifically for this teaser to illustrate to the audience that Godzilla would indeed battle another monster in the finished film.
Man what I would give to have a Godzilla movie with a tone this bleak and atmospheric.
this pictures the Godzilla movie I actually wanted to see
0:59 oh I love this part
And now 4 movies later, and it’s just a brawl fest with inside jokes…
God, I wish this wouldve been the tone for the franchise.
Yeah that's the unfortunate part. Hell even though Godzilla 2014 wasn't what this trailer presented. The final movie was still drastically different then everything that followed.
Sadly it's kinda become the same formula and comedic relief that the MCU is.
Let’s hope Godzilla minus one will deliver what the 2014 comic con teaser was going for. Also hoping when legendary does another Godzilla franchise they make it as intended like the 2014 teaser.
Bro I don't understand what you all want.First you all complaining Godzilla 2014 is bad too much human and blablabla. Now When they try to add more monsters. You all complain again,We want Godzilla 2014 style back.
