    Robot, thanks for the great how-to videos! Here are a couple tips for the coolant flush: 1) I took a large baggie, cut the bottom open, duct-taped one side of the open top flap to the engine housing below the water pump cover, and let it hang over the exhaust pipe and into the drain pan. Voila! All of the coolant drips through the baggie into the drain pan instead of all over the exhaust pipe and floor. 2) You can get the last remaining 1/2 cup of coolant out of the lower hose by using a spare piece of hose to gently blow into the open coolant reservoir cover, creating some air pressure to blow the rest of the coolant out through the water pump cover. 3) To bleed the system after refilling, run a piece of clear plastic tubing from the drain screw up into the coolant reservoir (so you don't lose any coolant) and start the engine. Let it run for a couple minutes to push coolant up into the tube, then shut off the engine. You'll then get a bunch of air bubbles running up the tube as the fluid in the tube runs back into the thermostat housing. Run the engine again for a minute to make sure that no more bubbles come out. Gently close the bleed screw, torque 2.2 ft-lbs. Done! Total flush takes ~1.5 liters of coolant.

    He knows what he's doing! My 2006 will start but won't stay running. I had the engine rebuilt last year and it ran fine until the accelarator cable broke. I got a new complete cable and installed it; what a job. It's not recoiling the way it should so, when I'm well enough to check it out where it enters the handlebar and has so many parts I'll loosen and attempt to rectify that problem. I just wish there was a VESPA shop somewhere closer than Atlanta. I'm 100 miles south and That's that. Buford/85yr old DAV/US Army

    Thanks to Robot for the great walkthrough. Here's what CAN happen, however, when you tackle this. On a few years old 300, the screws holding the water pump cover are REALLY locked up requiring a dremel to knotch out one screw, and a cold chisel on another. So, a many hours job in the end. So just be prepared and get that beer cold!

    If you live in an area with freezing temps/snow and you know you aren't going to ride it in the winter, would you recommend draining the radiator and keeping it empty all winter? Also, can you use just regular, premixed 50/50 coolant? Does it matter if it's the pink or blue kind?

    With this video it was pretty to change coolant, thanks. Just one little twist added after I removed the water pump cover tank and coolant tank cap I used some compressed air (just sealed by a paper towel around the tank fill) to blow more coolant out of the hose. There was quite a bit of coolant in there so it took almost two full bottles of coolant to fill and bleed.

    If you come across a Beverly. Could you do some maintanance videos of that too? The engine is used at alot of maxi-scooters. So you would help more people than the piaggio owners :)

    Ive done this on my Beverly 350. But there are a lot of bubbles, tiny bubbles the whole time, 1/2 of the coolant already flowed out. One better alternative I've found: Put the drain into the filler pipe instead of a container beneath the scooter. You don't loose coolant and excess air can flow out.

    GT200 I know for a fact doesn't have that 'bleeder' valve, on mine have to disconnect the small hose that is next to the thermostat to bleed air out when refilling.

    @Robot - Does Vespa Primavera Touring 150 Have a coolant?

  • @edwarddouglaspierce
    @edwarddouglaspierce 9 лет назад +1

    Robot, I completed a coolant flush on a '12 GTS300 but could not get the top screw out of the water pump. The container blocked it enough to that I could not get a Phillips head securely in the screw head. To complete the job, I flushed the coolant via loosening the main 1" hose - I am sure I did not get 100% of coolant out. How do you get the top screw out on a '12 GTS300? Also, what is the p/n for the water pump screw?

    • @VespaMotorsport
      @VespaMotorsport  9 лет назад

      +Edward Pierce Are you saying that the gas tank is blocking the top screw? We've never encountered this. There could be something wrong with the way the tank is mounted, or possibly your shock setting? You could try getting some kind of angled screwdriver to reach it...Hard to answer without seeing the bike. Thanks!
