Thank you Fernan - EXACTLY the solution I was looking for to sort latest dated item where multiple records in a table. By far the easiest and cleanest way to achieve this.

The same in one step: = Table.Group(#"Previous step", {"Column to group by"}, {{"Nevermind, we'll rid of it", each Table.FirstN(Table.Sort(_,{{"Column to sort by", Order.Descending}}),1)}}). Little bit slower but gives options to change list of columns to group by and the numeric value of first N.

    Beautiful video thanks!
I just tried with my data and Power Query runs into a performance issue. It says: error: out of memory. I tried both power bi desktop and dataflows but nothing changed.
Any suggestions with larger data? Like 2-3 million rows?

Hi Fanan, do you have a technique or solution on how to use DAX or any other method using a button to set as a default the first record in a table visual in PBI.
I have a table visual with a list of names with a add_date on the first column and want to make sure that when the user opens this page in PBI the first row is selected.
I love your clarity and way of explaining things on technical solutions.
Hope to hear from you soon

I’m confused how this would help? I don’t want to delete any past records. I want to just find the last record date and return it.

Depends on your scenario. The reason why you might want to discard old records (within Power Query Editor) is to keep the file size small and maintain speed with report responsiveness. With this solution, you're not deleting historical records from the actual storage spot, you're essentially just importing only the most recent data for your report. If you have the need to report historical data, this may not be a solution for the query you need. However, I only need to report the most recent data for a single query - so this was helpful for me.

You'd just want to expand that column where he created the index, and not delete/filter out any records. Essentially, you'll want to stop at 3:09 mark, all employees with 0 in the Rank column will be that employees most recent record, followed by their remaining records in order.
