In a career that spans seven solo albums and countless collaborations in the studio and live on stage, Mindi Abair has made her mark as one of the most recognizable saxophonists in the US. You may know her as the saxophonist on American Idol, or the only saxophonist to tour with rock legends Aerosmith since 1973. You may have seen her on stage with Bruce Springsteen for a historic night at the Beacon Theater, or tuned in as she joined Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra on the Late Show with David Letterman, or caught her recent appearance at The Grand Ole Opry or as Al Pacino’s sax player in Danny Collins.
Her seven solo CDs have garnered ten #1 radio hits, six top 5 spots and two #1 spots on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz album chart. Abair received a 2014 GRAMMY® nomination in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category for Summer Horns, a #1 recording with her friends Dave Koz, Gerald Albright and Richard Elliot, and more recently received a 2015 GRAMMY® nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for her solo cd Wild Heart.
After Wild Heart, Abair wanted to translate its edgier rock/soul sound to the stage. She called longtime friend Randy Jacobs (Bonnie Raitt, Was (Not Was), Willie Nelson) to join her live band. Randy brought his Detroit blues/rock edge to her music. In June, Randy’s band, The Boneshakers, was playing The Newport Beach Jazz Festival on the same bill as Mindi’s band, and she hopped on stage to “sit in” with The Boneshakers. “There was so much electricity on stage. We all felt it. The blues and rock just pulsed through me. Everyone played with complete abandon,” Abair said. “It felt like home. And most of my band was also playing with Randy’s band. It was really only about hiring longtime Boneshakers vocalist Sweet Pea Atkinson (Bonnie Raitt, Was (Not Was), Lyle Lovett). So we made it official and hit the road as Mindi Abair and The Boneshakers.”

Yeah, Randy Jacobs really kills it here on guitar. Whew! Love Sweet Pea Atkinson's vocals, too. And then Mindi burns it down on sax! The Boneshakers and Mindi are a match made in heaven. :)
It’s been quite a while back since I seen the Shakers but I’ll definitely never forget how amazing it was. One hell of a band, with Jacobs killing it on guitar and Sweet Peas awesome voice. I ran out and got their cd the next day and still listen to it 20 years later….👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I am a big fan of Mindi Abair ! This is a great example of how talented a Saxophonist she is! Although she is considered a Jazz artist I think she has made a great career move by moving into Blues and joining up with the Boneshakers. I discovered her on XM radio on B.B. Kings Blues when they played “Pretty Good for a Girl “. I looked her up on RUclips and have watched her videos. Looking forward to many more.
Many years ago I hung out her for a week at the Blue Parrot on catalina island, she is truly a wonderful person, she just gets better every time I see her.

I am always amazed at how I like every song you play. I keep trying to find one I don't like; but I haven't been able to. Just keep blowin' that horn with all the power and soul that comes from within you Mindi! Best sax player on planet earth IMHO.

Dear, RUclips C/O Mindi AbairI liked you as the sax girl & but for me I'm the guitar man of Jazz , Pop & Soft Rock but I grewed up with white folks music.Back in the 70's & my whole family liked to listen to WBLK here in my home town of Buffalo , New York that's I grewed up.With a cussing family & I cuss sometimes when my whole family their my kin also I have no granparents they just died.So as my mother & my father they are passed away now I got my siblings & I used to like today's music but I' like.Oldies from my time 1967 to 1969 thru the 70's 80's 90's & 2000's not no 2010's but I like some from today too.But I needed to get discovered & other musicians wanted to get discovered & you know why mindi I'm 49 years old.And I liked you with bell bottom jeans & I weared those with white platform shoes & acoursed a blue tee shirt.And that classic rock I liked the most & sometimes I go to FYE here in my erie county suburb of Tonawanda , NY.And it's quieter now I needed to make the big time & I am turning 50 years old & I don't care for 50's music that's way.Before my time well mindi I wanted to thanks for chating with me & I hoped you see my email.Signed nathanielharris099@gmail.com
