The colour of the beeswax is dependent upon how refined the beeswax is. By 'refined', I mean how much of the honey has been separated from the wax. Beeswax that is a deep yellow and has a strong scent of honey is softer because it still has a lot of honey mixed into the wax. Most of the time, the included honey will have no longterm effect on the thread or fabric, but there is always a small risk. If you would be concerned that a drop of honey would damage a fabric, then you probably should not use an unrefined beeswax on the thread used on that fabric. Beeswax can be refined at home by repeatedly melting it in hot water and letting it cool, whereupon the wax rises to the surface andsolidifies while the honey dissolves in the water--no need for other solvents, although some manufacturers do use other solvents to refine beeswax. The more refined beeswax is paler in colour, has less or no scent of honey and is harder in texture. It is highly unlikely that Dritz uses any type of fillers in their beeswax thread inserts--for one thing, there are laws about what can be labelled as beeswax in the US and these laws do not include fillers unless they are noted on the label. It is far more likely that Dritz is using a highly refined or purified beeswax that has had all the honey removed from it.
