- Melting some old boat zincs down and making slow pitch / flutter jigs from them. Also making some from lead and then finishing them with Jig Skinz!
Stuff I used:
Do-It Flutter Jig Mold 7 and 9 oz: amzn.to/3s29deg
Do-It Wire Form for Flutter Lure, FL-900: amzn.to/3GxjKn7
Do-It Wire Form for Flutter Lure, FL-700: amzn.to/3ggkeDf
Do-It Molds Hot Pot-2: amzn.to/32VahrW
Lead Ingots: amzn.to/3ujhKw0
JigSkinz: amzn.to/3Gmsj3T
Dude great lures I make same ones just in the smaller sizes. About the piece you cut . Dip the piece back into the pot to make it softer then you can cut it off with larger cutters then file it into a V.
Great tip thanks! Did just get back from Florida and they do catch fish!
Good video mate, when taking off the surplus lead don't tare it off use bigger sharper snips just off the lure.
score the mold with a sharp blade to make a perfect jig
Zinc is MUCH harder than lead, and it shrinks more on cooling so that's why the neck is breaking off right there. The mold needs to be a lot hotter to cast nearly pure zinc like anode blocks would be made from.
Try alloying your zinc with 5% aluminum, you will get a very ductile and very fluid casting metal. It will be much easier on your tools and will fill out every little detail of your mold-so making sure your through-wires fit perfectly in the mold will be important.
Thanks for trying the old boat zincs! I suspect that you got better action out of the flutter jigs you made this way, instead of using lead.
As to the problem with your castings in the area of the "funnel," or sprue, try these steps, which have helped me when I'm pouring lead. 1. Preheat the area of the sprue for as long as you preheat the rest of the mold-or even longer. 2. Start your pour immediately after the preheat. 3. Overfill/overflow the mold twice as much as you did in this video. (4) Don't use small cutoff pliers to trim the cooled sprue! Instead, use a hacksaw or some other tool that won't essentially "tear" the metal in your castings.
One last thing. Do yourself, your family, and your friends a favor: Wear an organic-vapor respirator when you work with this shit. It can kill you. Really. Gloves, primarily to prevent seious burns, are also a VERY good idea.
Thanks for the tips!
Thank you very much for the video, could you tell me what the measurements of the jigs are?
They are about 5.5” on the 7oz and 6” long on the 9oz - thanks for watching
@@boringfishingvideos4639 thank you very much for answering me it's fine if you made a video about which fishing lines you use nylon or fluorocarbon or braided or complymer and I've heard that the copolymer line is very good as a leader thanks
i think its cheaper to foil them. jig skins are kinda expensive.
is that a do it mold? if so what number is it pls
Good day please tell me where did you buy the mold thank you
There is a link to the molds in the description 👍🏽
