Process and a critique on Program
In popular design processes we allow program to give form to our buildings, their organization and semantics. This program is nothing but a fictional imagination of the future based on current facts. The ability of the human mind to imagine the possible futures in a single building is limited. This ‘presumed’ future is essentially uncertain. Also we are aware that there is no certainty that our buildings will perform the way we program them. So, instead of determining a single future as the architect, uncertainty of the future must be a criteria while designing.
The project challenges the design hand of the architect by dissecting the process of making architecture. The aim of the project is to removing proofing - the resistance- to uncertain change that is hardwired into the hand of the architect today.
An acceptance of an uncertain future removes program, syntax or symbolic semantic based on program as the basis of design. So, how do we design for this uncertain future?
