This was one of the most informative videos I've ever seen regarding Henri. Its a little hard to watch actually. What beautiful blessings they had...family, his wife, kids, parents...all of it. RIP Henri, you are not forgotten.

And if the Lancia would’ve just put a skid plate underneath the car. There’s pretty plausible story that Lancia didn’t use them on tarmac rallies. It was taken off to save weight. I’m pretty sure Lancia used them in the gravel rallies as it was important to keep all the gravel and rocks away. That Lancia Delta S4 weighted already only about 890 kg and that’s without the drivers and fuel. Those skid plates weighted just few kilograms so they took every part that wasn’t necessary, or was just heavy, out of the car. Crazy times, would never happen today
what legend i would of loved to seen him driving with my own eyes this mans braveness and skill of driving the group b cars he loved the thrill of it and danger unfortunately i don't think we will ever see driving ability like this ever again. Henkka oli varsinkin asfaltilla aivan pitelemätön verrattuna muihin, olisi ollut todella kova ratakuski. Ajoi monia vuosia altavastaaja kalustolla. Vasta 4 lenkkarilla raapiva Lancia oli hänellä kilpailukykyinen.
I used to adore Lancia...no more after the way they treated his family. Utterly contemptuous and disgusting . Henri deserved better, sorry his family have to live with the disdain of his so called “friends “.

He even calles himself a good friend of the family, since he already worked with henris father. But then, Lancia didnt even pay for Henris work after his death. His Wife got a Phone call from lanica, that she must sign a contract stating that lancia isnt guilty of the death of henri. Even when Henri tried to withdraw from the race. Hope it summons up the correct answer. Please correct me if im wrong

Pakko sano että aikas tyly talli oli toi Lancia. Henkkaa sakoilla uhattu jos jättää viel jonkun kisan kesken ja sitten toi että Lancia talli hoitaa kaikki Henrin laskut sillä edellytyksellä että tallia ei syytetä Henkan onnettomuudesta. Todella likaista peliä! Ensi viikon maanantaina tulee Henkan ja Sergion onnetomuudesta tasan 30 vuotta.
Juu ei voi mitenkään Henkkaa kyl talli syyttää siitä jos auto vaikka hajoo tms. Niin ja keskeytykset vaan kuuluu motorsporttiin, ja ihan kohtuutonta Lancialta kyl tollanen.

Perhehän oli suostutellut Henkan rallin puolelle koska katsoivat silloin että rata-autoilu on liian vaarallista, joskus '83-'84 ehkä. Henrihän kävi ajamassa pari C-ryhmäläisten kisaa ja taisi testata muuan Eddie Jordanin F3000 tiimille. Jordan kehui että Henkasta olisi yhtä hyvin voinut tulla menestyksekäs rata-autoilija.
Thanks for sharing this important insight on the tragic loss of Henri Toivonen ,and Sergio Cresto. I wish it contained more factual information about Sergio that might help us understand how strong the trust was between driver, and co-driver at that point in time.
Yeah this has been on RUclips before but got removed, I'm sorted this time though :-) this looks to be a real insight into the toivonen family I'm sure the producers could re-make this for the modern times and produce a dvd. Henri is as popular now as he was in his day, lots of young fans who were probably not even born when he was rallying. Good to see a toivonen book has now been released.
Henri would become world champion, but the destiny was another. World champion in 1985 was Timo Salonen and 1986 World Campion was Juha Kankkunen. Both driving Peugeot and team chief was Mr Jean Todt.

These beast were hard machines to drive, particularly the lancia on Tarmac!!! With 700 brake on high boost and no power steering with huge mega wide racing slicks it was an absolute workout just steering the thing thru the g forces of all those corners at Corsica with a totally locked trans (no centre diff) let alone the thousands of manual gear changes in a heavy 1985 gearbox and sintered racing clutch! You can see at 4:30 he's absolutely fucked and done more miles in one day than a full 1000 lakes rally Finland!!! 4 hour stages! Flat out!!! Think about that????
S4 had power steering, rather vulnerable though. But yeah, the physical burden of that event was off the charts. Even though S4 had compressor to give torque on low and middle revs, probably still the driver had to keep pumping the accelerator in corners / gear change to keep turbo pressures optimal. Almost the whole route was a series of corners....
40:33 well Audi retired from Group B befor the accidendt. The RS200 accident was the call for them. To bad that it wasnt stoped at just that time. Walter Rohrl said in his opinion only 5 drivers were capable of controlling a Group B car in full cry. He never said who they were however. I'd like to think Henri made that list. Like Ronnie Peterson, he had the skills to be the King. He just never got the chance to wear the crown.

It's a great and informative film. But very sad to watch. Sometimes I think it was fate and the only thing that could have stopped Group B was a fatal crash with the impact it made. I am not saying that God made it happen but it is spooky. One would have thought that after Portugal something would have been done about the spectators for a start. Then you see Alen etc talking about the fact that before the Tour de Corse in 1986 the drivers and FISA had a meeting and the drivers categorically said that the cars were too powerful, difficult to drive, difficult to concentrate and physically draining. In addition, the rally was too long, almost 1000kms, including road sections. Madness. In 2020 the rallies are 350 kms tops, even less, and I am sure some drivers are bitching even about that. I have heard at least 10 different theories for the crash, and all of them are indeed plausible, but the fact is we will never know. Probably.

Hyvä idea ja tekisen sen jos olisi aikaa, mutta taitaa olla turha homma. Edellinen Vauhdin surma (jonkun toisen lataamana ~2010) taisi olla muutaman kuukaiden Tubessa kunnes se poistettiin. Sinänsä hölmöä kun eihän tätä voi ostaa mistään.
Mahdollisesti tässäkin löyhkäävä raha puhuu. Esim Martinin tai Lancian suunnalta millaisen kuvan dokumentti heistä antaa. Ei todellakaan kovin kunniallista. Ehkäpä syystäkin.

B series was just too insane. He was forced to drive despite not feeling good on top of that.

700 and 600 are completely bullxxxt from people who didn't know or remember correctly. Delta was at 520 at Olympus.

Kuka tämän on suomentanut/teksittänyt? Heti kärkeen väitetään Toivosen olleen maailmanmestari, eikä kauaa mee kun suomennettuna ollaan jo kaksinkertaisia maailmanmestareita. Henkkahan ei maailmanmestaruutta kerinnyt koskaan voittamaan. Tykkään silti videosta, ei siinä mitään.

Hyvä idea ja tekisen sen jos olisi aikaa, mutta taitaa olla turha homma. Edellinen Vauhdin surma (jonkun toisen lataamana ~2010) taisi olla muutaman kuukaiden Tubessa kunnes se poistettiin. Sinänsä hölmöä kun eihän tätä voi ostaa mistään.
Mahdollisesti tässäkin löyhkäävä raha puhuu. Esim Martinin tai Lancian suunnalta millaisen kuvan dokumentti heistä antaa. Ei todellakaan kovin kunniallista. Ehkäpä syystäkin.
