I sailed my Hylas 42 around the world. I never had a serious problem with the boat. At 25,000 mile the bolt holding the forestay broke. I has a spare that got be back to CA. Great boats.
I'm a big fan of this model. I've seen many examples. I think it's a little or maybe a lot overpriced for a monohul. Probably my favorite mid sized monohull. I'm always impressed with the interior woodwork.

If I could afford it and had access to some help sailing it when I needed to, I would get the 53' Oyster 2001 for sale in St. Petersburg Florida for $450k. I saw it the other day, looks great top side. Two issues though, it only has 180 gallons of fuel vs the Hylas with 300, and only has an 88 hp engine vs 125 in the Hylas. But for me, both would be ok as I would use either boat as a liveaboard.
This Hylas was built with extra fuel capacity, I am sure some Oysters were built with the same. BTW just heard Oyster Yachts has just gone into administration, an end of an era and very sad news :-(
I like that sailboat too bad I could afford to have it. What I really like about is this a center cockpit for driving the boat it's better than trying to look through a wall in the back of the boat trying to sale that probably is the best part of the boat is you can actually see where you're driving the boat for sale in the boat then try to look around and trying to guess where everything's at.
Thank you very much for your comment sm6wet.Vessel is now sold, that's why you don't see spec and prices. She was listed at CN$845K and sold very close to asking price.Cheers
If a real sailor wants a YACHT as opposed to a boat with Holiday Inn interior décor (To be clear, there is nothing wrong with Holiday Inn décor in a well furnished and operated hotel. So, if you like that in your boat, buy a Beneteau or a new Hylas, post sale of what was once a wonderous company that built and sold actual yachts. You will be pleased.) But if you want a yacht, Hylas will delight you as long as you purchase your used yacht built by the original manufacturer. AND, this Hylas 54 is one of those beautiful yachts. There are some minor issues, but otherwise excellent!
Lovely boat, but the cockpit is too small in my opinion. This would make a great boat for cooler waters, or ocean crossing where you want to eat inside, but for Summer yacht cruising you need a bigger outside space where everyone can gather.
I had a 1999 Beneteau 46. First boat. Sailed it. Extensively Amd modified electronics and added fuel tanks and genset etc. kk was amazed that it snd most boats have no large diameter PVC chases throughout the boat. They just run wire after wire. Bundled and exposed. In another life... also I like the Amel single water intake thru hull. And it’s sea birth and nav station and galley. I’ve sailed in it. It is bullet proof but not fun to sail. It’s fun to use all the gadgets but the boat is not exciting when it’s sailing. It feels like a bus.
Things missing for the mechanical minded. Engine room, bilge, chain locker/windlass. Water tight doors? Is there a water maker? Batteries/amp.hrs, charging system, kws of generator, engine hp. Air conditioning in master only? Engine/generator hours? Years since overhaul? Nice woodwork and open concept. Not crazy about the wash/dryer in the shower stall, and, access to engine room. Weight and gallonage.
beautiful boat, well described by a boat person, that's nice a few shots 'under sail' would have been nice I'd think there'd be some mention of the engine/generator/etc editing dept. gets an A+

Yes, it has an old-school "New England" look about it, as if it's made for working the coast of Maine or the PNW.
