The Cleveland Browns aren't getting the return on investment they hoped for after giving Deshaun Watson the highest guaranteed contract in NFL history. Watson looks like the NFL's worst quarterback this season, and Cleveland looks like one of the league's worst teams. Following an embarrassing 34-13 loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 5, two-time MVP Kurt Warner said it's time for the Browns to go in another direction.
“There’s just so many things that I’m seeing that I’m like, ‘What is going on?' I don’t know who he is right now, I don’t know how good he can be as a quarterback. But what I know is this Cleveland Browns team isn’t nearly as bad as they’re playing right now,” Warner said on This is Football with Kevin Clark. “They’ve got a defense that can win, and they’re not going to win with Quarterback play like this. It’s been consistently like this for a long time, we've seen glimpses since he’s been in Cleveland but we haven’t seen a lot of them. It’s been this way for a long time and I don’t know what we’re expecting at this point.
“I just know they’re not going to win football games consistently with this kind of quarterback play. I just think you have to make a move even if it’s to allow him to step back, get away from all the pressure, get away from everything going on in his life over the last couple of years, and see if you can salvage his career.” After a 1-4 start, pressure is mounting on head coach Kevin Stefanski to make a change at quarterback.
Cleveland has the talent on defense to stay in some games. The Browns, led by Myles Garrett and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, ranked first in the NFL in yards allowed per play (4.6) last season. However, the unit has been unable to overcome an inept offense that has consistently put them in unfavorable positions this season. The Browns rank dead last in yards per game (239.4) and 30th in points per game (15.8). Watson ranks dead last in QBR (21.0), over six points behind Will Levis in the 31st spot. He ranks 34th out of 37 qualified quarterbacks with a -0.26 EPA per dropback, per nfelo.com.
While Watson resembles nothing close to his old self, Cleveland's struggles are not entirely on him. Injuries have decimated the team's offensive line. Starting tackles Jedrick Wills Jr. and Jack Conklin suffered season-ending injuries in 2023. Wills re-injured his knee in his first game back this season, a Week 3 loss to the New York Giants. Starting right guard Wyatt Teller was also lost to a knee sprain during the loss. Conklin has yet to make his 2023 debut.
Jameis Winston is the next quarterback up if Cleveland decides to make a chance. However, Stefanski said he has no plans to do so after the Week 5 blowout loss. Watson and the Browns will look to regain their footing when they travel to face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Yep...I can't unsee that play. I was amazed at how bad it was. He didn't even throw to the check down for 4 yards like he usually does. His connfidance, and football mind is gone. As a Baker supporter this is making me laugh my ass off. Guys need to be patient. Baker wasn't right after the surgery. He needed a year to get right. Nobody is pushing Chubb to get on the field and play. DW needs a year to get his shoulder right. Sucks to have to wait a year. Should have been patient with Baker. Don't go off the deep end. The organization needs to sit down with DW and get him to give thwm a team friendly contract. Same pay but add a year. He needs to do it to show good faith.
The Front Office Management team is INCOMPETENT and should be FIRED! They are accountable for this mess. They can't evaluate talent, or make good decisions, or negotiate good deals. They have submerged the Browns and their fans into football hell that will plague us for the next 3 - 6 years.

Sad part is: he is. He played his best game last week and that wasn't enough so he tried to be the hero this week and it blew up in his face. Instead of just doing him he tried to put the team on his back but this team isn't built for that.
He played well enough against the Raiders to be the 3rd best qb that week and it still wasn't enough, so he tried doing more and it just didn't work. And it will never work because those receivers and that offensive line is trash
The problem with moving on from Watson is he's still owed over 90 million dollars and his dead cap hit is over 140 million, so you might as well try to make it work because this situation isn't like Russ's situation. The broncos could afford to cut Russ because he was owed 40 million and his dead cap space was 80 over 2 years. So it makes sense to do that since they're rebuilding. Browns do that and not only are they rebuilding but they have to tear everything down.

It didn't matter in the outcome of the game, but when Deshaun walked off the field on fourth down this past Sunday and the field goal unit was brought on instead of going for the touchdown, it underscored the fact that Deshaun is a beleaguered, defeated player.

Just think if we had Baker and a couple #1 draft picks. They always have the BLUE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE on tv so the viewers know where the line of scrimmage is, Every Deshaun pass goes to the line of scrimmage, or some times 3 yards further.
Baker isn't gonna be successful without Chubb. He now has a amazing offense. He needs everything around him to be elite.

First off Jacoby was solid too, PJ Walker is a practice squad player and DTR was a 6th round rookie. Maybe that had something to do with it
The 2018 Texans started 1-3 and made the playoffs. Deshaun was the QB & he played inconsistent but they did no enough to get over the hump. Give Deshaun the length of his contract and then move on if he doesn't get us to the playoffs. Also, Browns fans holding onto Stefanksi and Berry like they're so vital. Give me a break, the only thing they bring is consistency but they're definitely flawed.

If Deshaun Watson is not the Browns QB moving forward (which he isn't), then the Browns need a long-term solution at QB. Period. Unless the Browns pick really high in a draft, then they will have to trade a bunch of draft picks to move up in a draft to get their QB. And the Browns have too many future needs to spend draft picks to move up, especially since they already blew 6 draft picks on Deshaun Watson. They absolutely should tank and get the best draft pick possible so that they can pick their QB. Otherwise, they'll either have to give up a king's ransom to move up in the draft or sign someone like Gardner Minshew to start next year and act like they are trying to do something.
Watson is a good QB. The Browns organization needs to get it together and stop fabricating false scenarios in form of a game plan in order to sabotage Watson!!! it seems they always have a QB PROBLEM every year! Weird!

The issues with this team go way deeper than just Watson. The whole team is undisciplined, starting with Myles Garrett, who is always good for at least one costly penalty a game. Lack of effort by the players, and a lack of preparation by the coaches. These guys did nothing all preseason. They get paid millions per year, and they play half as much as players used to. So, while Watson needs to be sent packing, I think it's probably time to blow the team up and start over. Get assets for Garrett while you can. I'd say right now the only untouchables on this team are Chubb and JOK, because they're the only ones that seem to give a crap.

The Army has a course that was required for Non-commissioned Officers called P.L.D.C (Primary Leadership Development Course). You can't put on those Sergeant Stripes without completing the course. A lot of Soldiers don't make it through the month long course. The Browns need to reevaluate their leadership structure and make a clear determination about who's running the football team. The NFL continues to play plantation politics with human beings. Money has taken the enjoyment out of professional sports. There has to be a limit to this greed and selfishness.
