  • Holy shit this one was incredibly hard. Pretty much everything shown in the video is intentional, and there's very little optimization left. By far the toughest run I've made. Probably not touching this boss in a while lol. I'm pretty damn proud here.
Originally, I didn't think beating Metal Sonic was even possible. And even if it were, I figured most bosses would either be too straightforward or too tedious to be worth trying interesting stuff with them. Out of curiosity, I ended up looking it up and stumbled upon brianuu's method, in which it was pretty much impossible to get an S Rank. It took them 20 minutes, but it can be lowered all the way to ~6 minutes if you only turn around the stage once (NOT once per hit), and then slowly follow Metal Sonic from there, which is much easier without the falling ground. Still, I wasn't satisfied, and by pure accident, I managed to hit Metal Sonic twice early on. It escalated from there, and now it's a full ALTERNATE route which is actually the intended straightforward route, althought still jumping over the death floor, of course.
The waiting after the lamppost attack is intentional since otherwise I'd get two lampposts per attack instead of one, meaning much more delay when jumping backwards to avoid them. So is the decision to long jump instead of dive jump most of the time, since camera angles make it weird and very difficult to properly align yourself to truly use the full speed of jump dives, meaning it's much easier to maintain a constant fast speed while long jumping, and it's also MUCH easier to remain aligned that way (which was a nightmare in itself and I had to constantly subtly move sideways to realign with each camera angle, which was pretty hard to figure out since delays meant death here).
You /could/ optimize it by not putting on the wing cap at the start (only by a few miliseconds though, the waiting reduces this gain) and thus by not flying at the end (this one gains more time, but it's /incredibly/ hard to hit Metal Sonic without flying, and it took me VERY long to figure out just how much easier it was by flying, which is why this run took me so long to S Rank in the first place).
Anyway, may try the other bosses quite soon, who knows! I should also probably try uploading Crisis City, but it doesn't quite feel good enough imo, or optimize some messy runs in here (Planet Wisp still kills me), but idk. I've almost given up with City Escape and Rooftop Run though....

Thanks! I put a lot of effort into speedruns using this mod, so I'm glad people are enjoying it :)
It's also pretty cool seeing that no one else has tried this yet! Can't believe I seem to be the only one

      Yep, it's possible!
It mostly consists of three things:
      1. Being able to keep up with Metal Sonic by long jumping, jump diving and realigning with the camera
      2. Being able to side jump and skip the kill and autorun trigger right behind you to take breaks if needed and dodge the lamp post attacks
      3. Hitting him during two times he's behind you and/or slower than you: while he's charging his boost at the start and end of the stage, and while he's charging the ring spark attacks after the first hit and after the lamppost attacks
As long as you're able to do that, you can keep up with him pretty much forever and take as long as you need! You can even wait as long as you'd like after each of the side jumps.
Doing all that though, is definitely difficult

Any tips for city escape honestly struggling really hard on it. Ironically there's too much invisible walls and death zones that kills me so it hard to get S rank
