I always love a video just about painting a model.
Honestly I don't always want to learn something in every video. If we just got videos show us what he painted, I would just be happy with that. I just want to be entertained.
@@slambaz2 Yah, happy to just listen and pick up information by osmosis.
@@slambaz2 Yeah, painting can be challenging sometimes.
Chalkboard sequence is quickly becoming my favorite segment.
I was going to write this same comment! Touche' Craig!
Omg omg omg. I'd just die if we got a chalkboarf series with Scott in a tweed jacket.
Kill me.
It is super helpful as a beginner painter!
Concur, its an awesome visual contextual representation of a concept.
Quick flash, here's how you can do goodlier with less effort? Hell yeah.
"Just painting a model" are my absolute favorite videos. It's why we subscribed in the first place because we love watching you paint. I know it's not flashy, but I can't get enough.
Yeah I really got annoyed for awhile at youtube because every of the mini painting channels was doing it. I dont want to be sold some Method or product I want to see someone use their skills to tackle a problem.
There are mornings and sometimes entire days where it’s relaxing and educational to watch a video like this. It’s like the Joy of Mini Painting.
Scott Ross? I can imagine Scott with the full afro, but not a beard.
That paint bottle swallow got me crying from laughter! WE LOVE YOU SCOOOOOTT
My favorite kind of video is just painting and talking about it. Your art is bad ass.
Made this post before I could finish the video. I guess I fall into that category described at the end.
Honestly, this format is pretty great. Hopefully you get good metrics on it and can do more like this
Just painting models is what most of us still want from our model painting channels. I found switching paint manufacturer vastly reduced the "chalkyness" of my white paint finish. So that might also be a factor for some people ☺️👍
I would watch this format consistently. As someone who has no art/painting background, getting color and paint theory embedded in the content really jimmy my jams.
0:26 Got to admire that stylish knee-hold hairdryer technique… I’m giving it an 8/10
I love watching people who are passionate about something, or skilled, or have something they want to teach. That’s why I subscribe and come back for every video.
The click baity ones can be fun, but it’s never going to be more than a fling.
I think this is one of your best figures so far. Love the details, love the asides to educate without taking away from the experience, and love that you seem relaxed enough to let your personality come through. The lean into the goofy without it being C Movie level cringe is perfect. ❤
Insert generic reply about how I really enjoy just seeing you explain a paint job and your approach.
Because I really do. The smallest little choice you make even if just 1 of them in the whole video helps me with my own painting journey. And that can not be overstated. Keep it up Scott!
"Paint Academy at the chalkboard" with Scott is my favorite
I’ll say the same thing I said with your cook bust last year. Most of us don’t care if the video has a subject, i just love watching you paint stuff and talk about it like this!!
I hope this video does well so scott can keep making straight up random videos of him just painting any mini he feels like cause its relaxing to watch tbh.
This kind of video is what people can actually learn something about painting. Love it very much.
I honestly love when people just paint a model and explain their reasons for doing things as they go.
I do love just getting to sit back and watch a mini painted.
Wow, the content provided in the video aligned exactly with the expectations set by its title, I am 23% more satisfied as a result and am more likely to watch another video in the future.
thank you, RUclips viewer
Yo I don't wanna repeat what otters said, but here's my take from a different angle: I like seeing YOU, Scotty-boo, just painting and talking. Not this kinda content in general, but yours. I like your videography, the narration, the puns, the mood, the studio background etc.
Thanks for doing one for the niche within a niche community. It's fun to have someone painting and talking about painting on the TV while I'm painting. :)
Black primer, mechanicus standard grey, dawnstone, administratum grey, tamiya panel line accent colour black for the recesses and white. I'm painting Iron Hands and this is the recipe for my bolter casing and captain/lieutenant helmets. Grimdark af. Really pleased with how it looks.
I got the feeling your scipts got way more savage recently, and im all here for it
Bro that skin is clean. Idk why I don’t absolutely love the face, but the overall effect of the model is sick.
My favorite type of video. Just a “hey I’m gonna paint this model today” video
I actually really enjoy the parts of your videos where it's just painting and talking, so I was actually really pleased to see a video that's just that. Sometimes I don't necessarily want to watch a video with a specific purpose. I just want to see how YOU paint and hopefully learn some stuff along the way. Great video as always mate. Keep it up.
This has some of THE best Alton Brown vibes and I am here for it.
Maybe I am part of the niche, but I love a "just painting a model" style video. Already looking forward to the next one!
White being a combination of all colours only works with the light spectrum, when you’re dealing with pigments that show colour you’re going to end up with grey, brown, or green depending on what pigments are used in your paint
I love just watching people paint and ramble about their thoughts in painting. This is a fantastic video :)
I love it when you paint a model without making a spectacle about it. This video is for me. /s
4:59 THIS! YOU ARE KILLING IT IN THIS VIDEO, MAN!
What?! A miniature painting video on a miniature painting channel?! Inconceivable!
I love watching your videos, my inner head voice works the exact same way, you often answer/ask the questions I ask myself.
3:30 THIS! This was a clutch moment. This is a great explanation.
Dude - NEVER underestimate the joy we viewers get just watching a painting video like this. I feel like many of the big hitters in this Painting world (Sqidmar, Midwinter Mini's etc..) are falling into the same problem. I love how you paint, and there will Always be something to learn. Feel free to bait the thumbnail as much as you want, do what you gotta do to get the clicks but dont worry about "only " making a painting video - these are my favourite type. No shade on Emil, but I was having a much more enjoyable time watching paint videos compared to the current relentless WARLORD TITAN videos - if you get what I mean. I get the pressure you feel to constantly grow but stay near the thing you love and great things will come
I love just painting a mini, plus you still manage to teach us bunch of stuff!!! Thanks Scott
Mixing that Tamiya Clear with thinner worked so well holy shit. It looks so good
Crushing these display models. Glad you could have fun with it and looking forward to the next one as usual!
This video is just the kind of thing I like to have playing when I'm painting
Scott, I really hope you see this is the sea of views and comments. I know you have to deal with all the clickbait and thumbnail stuff that RUclips pushes but you have so consistently put out helpful and good content that it doesn't need to be that. Most of the time, when I get a notification you made a new video, I don't even read the title or look at the thumbnail. I just make a mental note to watch it because I respect your talent as a painter and how well you articulate things in your videos. I often am just looking for videos of other painters painting things and just talking about what they are doing and how they go about the process so I can compare to my own process. Not everything has to be a highly crafted tutorial. You could make a series like JUST PAINTIN or something where you just talk about what you are doing and why while you paint a model and I would LOVE that. Maybe you already do that on TWITCH but I Would rather watch a condensed youtube video than a long form stream. You don't even need to go in depth or try to teach something. Just like, "I am choosing this paint and process because XXX." Anyway, thanks for all you do.
Feels like a return to the old Miniac here. Love these videos.
It really is all about the painting, afterall. These videos never get old.
These chalkboard sequences are feeding my need for Good Eats/Science Guy style content. Bill Nye and Alton Brown would be proud.
This is different from everything I have ever heard. That being said it makes sense. All the bone paint colors out there is insane. Got bone white, washabi bone, some other bone colors, bright bone paints, medium bone paints, dark bone paints. I wish this video popped up on my feed when it came out. Im sad I missed out on that kick starter.
Love the model. The chalckboard is nice break and help understanding for the future.
"The internet loves hacks!"
Must be the key to your success!!! Air horn sounds!!! Lol
Great video Scott, thanks for sharing!
That thumbnail was amazing. I liked the large slightly blurry Scott.
Didn’t know how much I needed this vid. I suffer from chalky whites or light colours. Never knew it was about opacity. THANKS more than you know! I thought it was crumby citadel large pigment light coloured paints
Really enjoyed this, no gimmick title or hack, just painting and talk and explain what you do! make more like this!!! :)
Man I needed that painting white tutorial like... yesterday haha. I wanted to tell myself "man, I wish I could airbrushing the white skin tones on 32mm scale minis" and then that reminds me that at 32mm I can probably get away with it being rougher. That or just airbrush the skin first and then paint the details so I don't have to deal with overspray.
Great video, thanks Scott! Never thought of blending in white that much, it always scared me.
I do also just love the “how I painted this random model” videos
This episode had a "Bill Nye" the painting guy vibe, nerding out about colours and technique isn't vanilla, it's science!
I love the chalkboard talks. Fun addition and the blend color squares were particularly awesome.
The comedic bits just keep getting better.
Maybe a bit of an unsung feature, but this was a great showcase for the model. The detail in the gauntlets doesn't show up on the KS page.
Really neat job. Not sure about "demographics and engagement", but I'm precisely drawn to this channel for the technical explanations of things. The chalkboard explicitly. Maybe the niche-within-a-niche-within-a-niche of being an engineer metalhead that paints little dudes and dudettes for fun.
And yes, can't wait for my Dutchess to arrive with the rest of the KS goodies (no rush, no stress, it's all good, but super excited about that one).
Scott, sometimes just a simple video on watching you paint and talk is enough, gives me motivation to get out some minis and slap on some paint.
This is a great format for this kind of video. I have learned nearly everything in it from you before, but watching and hearing you go through the process helps a ton.
I really enjoy some simple mini painting videos like this where you learn some additional techniques for painting at a relaxed pace.
Was not expecting you to gobble down on the old Tamiya Clear. That really caught me off guard.
I think what separates you from other mini creators is that it isn't the "concept" of the video that brings attention, most of us like just watching you, how you present, your personality and how you edit videos makes them stand out. So do whatever you'd like, even just paint a miniature like this, all videos are excellent
Halfway through the video I was thinking “I’m so happy he’s back to painting models in his videos”. Then you stole all my thunder at the end 😂
Giving me real Alton Brown / Good Eats vibes with this video, absolutely love it.
i think these videos are great, like hey i painted this crazy model, here was the process and here is how i tackled hard areas! it gives viewers/painters who are newer some wisdom if they ever run into a difficult area on a future model. love this content!
You anticipated all my comments as you went so I will simply say thanks Scott 🤘
Great video. I am 100% here for the paint'n'chalkboard talks.
The video quality really helps with seeing what you are doing what an awesome paint job
Thank you Scott
Sometimes Scott there is beauty in simplicity!
I have an infinitive need of simple videos like this, they are the perfect 'companion' whilst I paint a mini myself :)
This was cool. I liked that you ended up touching on a bunch of different things because you weren't focused on a specific topic. Like, you probably mention the trick about mixing ink with paint when doing freehand in the video about freehand, but I'm not tryna do that and haven't watched it in a long time. BUT that tip is aces and useful for other things like recess shading and now I'm thinking about what else you can do by mixing ink with paint. I might not have gotten that if I'd heard it in a video where I was focused on learning freehand. I would like more videos like this where you paint a thing and talk about the stuff you want that went into the process. I'm also a big fan of the excessive detail. Love the Bill Nye presentation style with the blackboard.
so, I think my favorite part of your "just paint a mini" videos is the hilarious throwaway lines we get in the voice overs. It feels like we get more in these videos than in the others. but I enjoy them all. Thanks Scott!
Perfect title. This is the content I’m here for.
Very cool idea. One suggestion if I may: make the game as flexible and universal as Saga. Saga is a ruleset that works with historical minis, with fantasy, scifi, or anything else you could think of. If your game does the same for, say, the vast worldwide catalogue of 54mm or 75mm models, then the sales should go through the roof.
Back to basics and I am for it
Everything improved since you started, even the air cut
I have recently followed a skin guide by Francesco Farabi where he started with a puke coloured green as the base for the skin. Later ot was cover wit alizarine crimson ending up woth really cool rich shadows. I also used this method for a creamy white ivory on the same model where the greenish tones remained in the shadows and it workd pretty well
I liked that you painted a model and talked about it.
Doing something what you enjoy just for sake of doing it. I can get behind that !
I like the whole painting a model, but I come for your motivational utterances for me to paint more minis. And for that I have to view the whole video of bonus wonderfully edited content
I love the chalkboard lesson. I'm an idiot but anything on the Chalkboard is easy enough for even I to understand!
Good to see you painting more minis!
I love your honesty in the behind the scenes thought process of what goes into each video.
Fantastic vid, thank you
Definitely love videos like this
TBH any video you make will have your style and comedy attached so that makes it interesting. Make videos that make you happy and I'll watch.
Love the title, exactly what it says on the tin
Ahhh it's nice to see someone overthink mini painting as much as I do.
🧊 Cool. 😎👌
Beautiful.
Looks great, Scott
A beautiful min and a beautiful paint job! Well done Scott!
I really enjoyed this, thank you!
I really like the format if this video and that mini is probably my favorite to date. Always a pleasure miniac
This was one of my favorite vids
I’m all about videos like this. So relaxing and educational. Motivates me to paint more.
Amazing work scott
Best kind of model painting video. A video where someone paints a model. Happily have more of these!
Content totally delivered on promise and expectations set by title. Just happy to watch you paint and hear your insight into the process.
I’d love more of these fun+educational videos with no particular topic. Bits of wisdom, bits of great editing, and bits of… Miniac. Decided to support on Patreon.
Thank you!
