On the 9th of December, 2017, a speedrunner named ollymuirs completed a flash game called This is The Only Level with a time of 2:24.675. Over the next three years, this time was tied to the exact same frame by four separate runners, leaving a true 5-way tie for first place. In this video, we will take a look at why this tie exists and if it can ever be beaten. Has this game succumbed to the same fate of dragster, or is there more to the story?

So first imagine a bus...
But you can only get on the bus every 21 frames. So if darbian saves 12 frames in a level he will have to wait 9 frames to finish the level
its a 400-frame framerule

Update: as of October 30, 2021, the tie has been broken! A few frames were somehow saved in the last few levels, with the new world record being a 2:24.550

In my mind, this is the point of speedrunning. Pushing a game as far as possible to be at its perfection. So few can reach this, but it's always so amazing when it does

It was this game that started my love for old flash games
Its crazy to think something I played for fun and tried to perfect just for the hell of it, has been perfected 5 times by 5 different people
It would be crazy if even a millisecond save is found somewhere

And even if someone discover something, it'll be useless because you can't use it (because it's a glitch...)
So... the tie will stay as it is.
"glitchless" is kind of a misnomer in this situation. There is a game breaking glitch that allows almost every level to be beaten immediately, that's the glitch which isn't allowed in any% glitchless. As stated in the video, there's a glitch which allows the player to hold down left arrow key and mash the right one instead of alternating left and right - this glitch is allowed in any% glitchless since it saves a split second in 1 level; it's not game breaking. I'm sure that if another minor glitch like that one is discovered, it would be allowed in the run.
@@Jowensguy When it's only one glitch that isn't allowed, the category should contain said glitch, like "any% no AJS", "any% no OOB"

I’m such a fan of Jmtb02 games!! This is a great video. Really interesting and entertaining!
I remember playing this game when I was little. The developer of this game also made other Flash games featuring that blue elephant, and that includes "There is Only One Level", which spawned 3-4 sequels, and a spinoff "*insert number here* Achievements". A favorite of mines was their short yet sweet game "Run Elephant Run" where the blue elephant jumps off superstardom in Hollywood just to be with his significant other back in Africa while awesome music blares in the background.

Imagine a security gate. In order to get to the next level, the elephant must go through the gate. The guard can only open to gate every 400 frames. The elephant has to get within sight of the security guard (on the same stage) for it to open.

imagine speedrun categories allowing a game speed multiplier to do a whole run at a constant faster/slower game speed to break up optimization and make it more interesting

7:30 When I decided to randomly speedrun this game just cuz I thought it'd be funny one day, I did not expect to see myself on a video with 123k views. Good video, by the way! I started off doing attempts at this game just cuz I thought it'd be funny but it's actually surprisingly fun and interesting to do so!
Update: 7 people are now tied for 1st with that same time. Also dragster is now tied by 20 people
I don't really get the door cycle thing. Is there some sort of vehicular metaphor you could use to explain it better?
Every 10 seconds, a traffic light briefly turns green to red. Thus, cars are only able to get through at 10 second intervals.
Someone needs to make a tad for this. Would love to see a sub 1:50 gate cycle.

Aside from the jump into the gate in 20, not really, since you can buffer inputs between levels

Fuck I loved all these elephant games, the developer was a legend but he got hired by a company and put these projects to one side - it was so cool chatting to him back then :) jmtb02 right?
That developer has actually seen this video and shared it on his twitter, which is super cool. Another developer that worked on the elephant games, Tasselfoot, is actually a part of the speedrunning community for them.

So from 4:27 to 4:34 I want you watch that... they all in different positions so I think that you could get 1-3 frames faster so if they put in a couple hundred hours of play time a new record can be achieved
