In the videos you have watched you have seen the reaction because that is what makes it funny or ironic. But sledging is the same as trash talking. It is just the act of trying to annoy someone enough to get them to loose concentration.
Sledging doesnt always result in revenge mostly it results in falling of wickets of those who get sledged because they lose their concentration and give up their wickets
Not forgetting that sledging was adopted as a tactic in cricket after many good Aussie cricketers played a high standard of baseball. Niggling the opposition in baseball is a gold medal sport. Previous to that any carry on in cricket was something you'd share with a beer after the game. Doctor Grace was reportedly very famous for his dittties.
Freddie Flintoff: "Mind them windows, Tino." Meaning: try not smash the pavilion windows when you hit your massive six, Tino. Tino Best then completely misses the next ball and gets stumped ugly. The entire cricket loving audience of England shares Flintoff's shoulder-shaking amusement. The perfect sledge.
Steven smith shuffles his legs a lot for each ball that he faces. Ends up looking funny. Ishant seems irritated and starts to mock him to get him out. Virat is in splits :D
@@yash124 they aren't afraid champ its all because of the sandpaper incident. CA have put the Australian players on notice about sledging. Anyone who follows cricket knows that.
Yeah sledging is just chirp largely although it can get out of hand. A couple of legend sledges that I've heard about.... Australia's Ian Healy to South Africa's Kosie Venter (who was a sizeable bloke) that was playing very defensively and not venturing out of his crease against Shane Warne. "Hey Warnie! Put a Mars bar on a good length, that'll get him out of his crease." And my favourite is Glamorgan's Greg Thomas against the West Indies master, Viv Richards playing for Somerset in English county cricket after Viv played and missed at several balls in the over. "Hey Viv, it's red and weights five ounces. Now try playing it." The best thing was Viv's response of hitting the next ball out of the ground for six and to which Viv replied... "You know what it looks like, now you go find it."
Best sledging ever was Shane Warne to Daryl Cullinan, especially Warne's reference to Cullinan's sports psychologist. You should watch Warne's interview with Michael Parkinson where he describes this - it's absolutely hilarious!
Merv Hughes: "If I bowled you a piano, could you play that?" Or who can forget Healy (Aus) and Ranatunga (SL). Ranatunga has a habit of walking singles in One Day games, and at times would cop some sort of injury and ask for a runner. As a runner is requested, Healy from behind the stumps: "You don't get a runner for being a fat ****" Or Lillee (used it mroe than once to different batsmen): "Oi, you got some sh!t on the end of your bat" The batsmen invariably lifts their bat to have a look.... "Wrong end, mate"
Healy revving up Ranatunga was the best. Healy later claimed he called him "unfit" but I know what I heard in the stump mic that night and I'm still laughing.
I'd take that sledge from Gilly to heart, because he never waited for the umpire to declare him out. If he nicked it, he walked... now thats integrity for you.
Gilly should have educated the rest of his team mates to do like wise, bit hypocritical when Gilly is having a go at Kaif and his team mates like Ponting and Clarke do not walk knowing they have hit the ball, add Symonds to the list!
How was Miandad vs Lillee not included by the maker of this compilation, It easily sits on #1 and is one of the historic cricket fights. A 10 Minute version is on Robelinda's channel if you guys ever wanna react to it.
Sledging is not about revenge or a fight all the time. It is about, like you said, getting under the skin of the other person. They would say things so that may get the other side furious so as to unsettle them and not to let them get away with the game. Which eventually would result in frustrated moments and loading the game. It's all part of the team game. Australian team has been famous for their sledging tactics, which is also really beautiful. The one with the Indian bowler. H is s name is Ishant Sharma. It happened during a test that took place in India Summer 2-4 years ago. Whenever he bowls he makes awkward faces. It's not intentional it just happens. Smith till that too tease him. That was not actually sledging... The best piece of sledging in this video was the first one. That once was really beautiful. Also the one with 'Come On Fidy' that was between Flintoff and Bravo. And fortunately Bravo is still around 😅
Sledging is simply provocative banter (some cross the line, some don't) 6:30 This was funny & reminded me of Wahab Bowling against Watson (I think), would've posted a link to a video but couldn't find one.
Steve Smith always makes elaborate gestures when he leaves the ball. And now another Australian batsman, Marnus Labuschagne, is doing the same sort of thing. Smith, along with Virat Kohli of India, are probably the best two batsmen in the world, but Labuschagne has roared up the charts in his two years of test cricket. His parents brought him to Queensland from South Africa when he was 10. Merv Hughes, from the 80s and early 90s, was a notorious sledger...a larger-than-life character who still gives food value on Twitter. That moustache is still in fine fettle, albeit greyer.
My favourite: Glamorgan fast bowler Greg Thomas to the "Master Blaster" Viv Richards; " Hey Viv, It's, It's red, it's round and it's fast. Now try playing it." Sublime response: Viv hit his next ball out of the ground at Taunton in England and told the bowler in his broadest Antiguan accent "You know what it looks like Man. Now go find it."
Sledging is the same as Trash Talk. It serves the same purpose to throw the sledgee off their game - it quite often backfires. No different to trash talk. Steve Smith has eccentric movements when he bats, the bowler was just mimicking him to try and make fun of him.
With the Steve smith and Ishant sharma thing, they were pulling faces because steve smith technique is very weird so he made faces. And with steve smith charging at ishant sharma that is just how steve smith leaves the ball.

There is the apocryphal sledge between bowler and batsman, the bowler fizzed one past the ear of the batsman and said "it's round and red, if your looking for it", the next ball, the batsman hits the ball out of the ground and says to the bowler "it's red and round, if you want to go look for it"
Most of these one to one rivalries develop over long test series. Imagine playing against each other in a 5 match test series, that is more than 150 hours of play people within a month or so. A lot of the time the batsman won't respond or it will show the bowler/fielders that they have got to them and distracted them for their game. "Mind the windows Tino." Was the best.
Sledging is mostly stupid inane chirp. Sometimes it is hilariously funny. It’s rare for seasoned pros to be affected by sledging. In fact, some players ‘fed’ off being sledged - Steve Waugh being the premium example, whilst others were known to ‘lose it’ if sledged well - Glenn McGrath and Michael Slater fell into this category. As long as it doesn’t get too personal (race, religion, family) - sledging is fine. Incidents like “Monkeygate” are not.
