Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation or the SCO Summit in Kazakhstan. The two leaders hailed their friendship and oversaw the expansion of the regional security bloc. Putin said Russia's relations with China were stronger than ever, whereas Xi called Putin an "old friend". Meanwhile, SCO welcomed Belarus as its tenth official member. The meeting in Kazakhstan between Putin and Xi is their second in two months. Earlier, the two leaders vowed to strengthen their diplomatic ties. The two nations have deepened their economic, military, and political ties since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
