RUclips hiding the dislike button just encourages garbage/disgusting content to be spewed out all over the site without any reprimand.
Am i going to be able to tell a tutorial or guide is a waste of time via the dislike button? no. not at all. all because youtube wants to sucker up to cooperations because the big dislike bar hwurts thweir fweelings!!

People often look to the ratio for a quick estimation of validity, as most things only ever get truly ratiod on YT when the content is downright fraudulent. This is how many people detect things like scams, false advertising, or have a controversy attached to a company/creator brought to their attention. By hiding dislikes, scammers become much harder to detect and corporations can much more easily sweep negative responses to their latest cash grab bullshit under the rug.
When you are a faceless corporation or disingenuous con artist, you don’t care about feedback or actually being legitimate. You only care about LOOKING legitimate.

The site doesn't wanna deal with that whole can of worms, so off go the dislikes. An excruciating amount of people have been hurt or even killed by the dangerous stuff that is so light-heartedly presented in those videos. I guess all it takes for this to end is a rich kid, like seriously rich, to accidentally kill itself with one of those tutorials.

I love how youtube's reason for removing the dislike button is because of harrassment even though you can easily turn off likes and dislikes numbers for public viewing. Also most people getting a shit ton of dislikes are big companies like youtube themselves. And dislikes and criticism in comments are 90% justified here on youtube. Very rarely are someone disliked bombed just because.

Honestly I'm not even here for the platform anymore, but for the creators. If youtubers were moved to a different website to make their videos I would be more than willing to go. RUclips has just been acting really stupid these few years and they still don't do anything about it. I don't feel comfortable staying at this website where so many people spend their time on, giving them views, money and they still can't listen to their "fans"

Yup we are all on the same page brother, a group of creators need to signal the exodus for this to happen. Also it is a shame. This isn’t the RUclips we love, it is not the same company/site. That’s why I don’t feel bad about leaving. My loyalty was to the old RUclips, this has become something more dangerous than it ever was before.

They say it’s to protect creators, especially small ones. However, it’s only to protect the damn news and scammers. No matter what you believe, you should be able to collectively dislike and show how fucking hated something is.
Edit: I was thinking, couldn’t they just continue the OPTION of turning off comments and likes/dislikes? Like leaving the responsibility of hiding dislikes and comments to the creator? After a while we prolly won’t even have comments without some special RUclips subscription if it’s not outright taken off the platform.

The funny thing is that I accidentally hit the dislike button on a video earlier too, and it gave me a message that said “we’ve given the creator feedback.” RUclips’s specific reasoning for removing the dislike button was to prevent “dislike bombs” on smaller creators. So…. You can still dislike bomb videos, the creator can still see it, but the only difference is that *we* can’t see it. This doesn’t really fix harassment (though we all know that’s not why they did it)

@@calipsaa2285 - The reality is that, though RUclips has really been cracking down on harassment over the past few months, they rarely actually care about real harassing content unless it makes them look bad. Most of their changes to the harassment policy have had ulterior motives. I can’t say for sure what RUclips’s exact motive for removing dislikes are (though many people certainly have their own theories), but it’s clear to me that they’re just blowing a bunch of smoke about “harassment of smaller creators” because they never take action when it really matters.
And what does it all mean? Nothing.
Excellent use of the mvm theme. Honestly I think it sums up the entire struggle pretty well. RUclips and their bots vs the will and free speech of the masses. Fuck em I say. I’m not a slippery slope kinda guy but this is disturbing to watch and should be villainized in case any other platforms try to follow this path.

Oh man seeing Bob & his Tank brings back memories when Google started making drastic changes on the platform especially 8 years ago, I was 13 at the time and didn’t understand about corporate monopolies but looking back it makes me upset that RUclips was bought by Google because it has caused a Dark Age for RUclips, Google has been a blessing and a curse on the platform but as of recent for the past couple years now it’s become cursed.
Now that Bob is making a return, he finally has a new purpose and it’s to boycott this platform that has screwed over so many people, a platform that doesn’t listen to the mass majority of content creators even though they claim they do. Instead of going forward, they are going backwards.

not so fun fact: that extension only works because AFAIK the dislike is still sent to the computer viewing just not displayed. in a few days, apparently, youtube is removing it from being sent to the computer viewing the video as well.

Ironically, now that I can't see the dislike count I'm kinda anxious because I want to to know wether my fave creators are doing good or bad and usually that wasn't a problem because they do great on almost every video but now I just can't know for sure, like wtf youtube.
I actually stopped watching a few people who shown personality types tied with those kinds of things entirely because now they can silence anyone who disagrees with them leaving only positive comments and likes.
Simply put this change has made many things no longer viable.

This has got to be one of the most upvoted "popular" yt videos, percentage wise. Almost 50% of viewers actually clicked the button. I don't think I've ever seen numbers anywhere near that on the platform.

When one of the creators of RUclips talks about how shitty the decision you made is in the description of the video _on your platform,_ you messed up
When the first ever person to post something on your platform agrees it was a stupid decision, you've royally fucked up
Tim is a young boy, a RUclips content creator. he really likes Super Paper Mario, and despite all the criticism this game gets, he wants to prove that this game is actually good. so he makes a video proving how this game is good, however, as the video continues, Tim stops making actual points that are based on something and have proof and starts getting emotional and ends up just sending hate on people who don't like the game. obviously, people don't like it, so they dislike the video and write negative comments.
now, there are two ways for this situation to end:
1. Tim understands his mistakes, looks at dislike counter and all the criticism and uses all of that to become better and improve.
2. Tim looks at the dislike counter and gets mad at people who disliked his video without realizing why they did it and quits RUclips.
unfortunately, the majority of people on the platform end up in the 2nd option.
if RUclips wanted to do something about it, they'd make an introduction to how like/dislike counter works, make a text appear when hovering over the dislike button, make a seperate comment section for actual reviews, bring back the 5 star rating system etc.
surprise surprise, RUclips doesn't actually care. they only deleted it for scammers and companies to not have bad reputation, probably because RUclips gets money for that.
this really does prove that this platform isn't about creativity and expressing yourself anymore.
And video creators can block comments. Wouldn't things be easier if they just try that?
This is actually a pretty awesome animated backstory/context to something like a copypasta. I like the voice acting and animation, too. Very nice work.

The fact that you need a plugin to see the dislikes is the saddest thing this platform has done. This doesn't protect content creators at all, removing videos that promote harassment and hate speech do.

Yea I believe the idea of removing the dislike button is very stupid because that'll just encourage people to spam hateful comments instead. I believe having horrible stuff written about you or your content has a more negative impact than just staring at the numbers of dislikes. 🤔
