When Karina said "d-word your art" I was looking for a drawing I did last night, and when she said "You know what? Delete your art!" that's when I found my drawing on the floor, with my two criminal cats munching on it
Aww, you just reminded me of an old dog I used to have, who would exclusively steal and eat high end art supplies. Wood pulp paper? No thank you. 25% cotton or better for this pup! Synthetic fiber brushes? Absolutely not. Real Kosinski sable? Yes, please! She even gnawed chunks of veneer off of a lovely little antique French chest. As a non-artist, hearing Karina talk about the difference between her usual shading style and the one she is adopting is really fascinating- I don’t understand all of it, but I like seeing it and trying to understand.
As an artist it's also very fascinating to hear people talk about their processes and their struggles replicating other styles. I also really like how you talking about Karina like she's some specimen that you're observing because she is
"I don’t understand all of it, but I like seeing it and trying to understand.", yeah thats my whole deal with any art, but boy do I have fun doing so :)
It's wild how much Karina putting in the hair highlight really brought it all together. I love seeing them try other styles, and how their personal style still peeks through a little
The way Karina describes the Cardcaptor style just had me nodding and repeating "That's Clamp for ya" over and over again. They really know how to make an anime seem straight out of a french advertising poster for absinthe circa 1890
Jacob: "Nathan just kicked my headphones on the ground" Julia: "Kick that shit to the GROUND Nathan!" With these two statements we can extrapolate that Nathan just kicked Jacob's headphones off his head, without harming Jacob. Probably one of the power moves of all time. (lol) Also Karina's immediate reaction just being chaotic laughter is extremely relatable.
I feel like Julia's Makima at the end there captured how unnerving she is PERFECTLY. I feel so threatened just looking at it, but it's also just mesmerizing. Really makes you feel like you're about to die
Don’t get me wrong, Julia has always been bringing it in her art. But whatever practice or whatever she has been doing in 2023 has been working so well. I was immediately captivated by her Makima and I didn’t want her speed draw to end.
One of my favourite things about drawfee is how genuinly excited they get for each other's art. As much as they take digs at each other for fun, there is just such a positive vibe.
It's been two years since you tried to draw in the opposite of your own styles, and longer since you tried to draw in each other's styles, I think. You've all grown and improved and developed your styles a lot since then, so why not bring one of those challenges back for another go?
Jacob saying he couldn't do all that hatching by hand reminded me of the time that Julia DID... that was also an artists drawing thing in different styles. She drew Kaiba in the style of the berserk manga.
Drawing Suggestion: The Celebrity sketch artist Challenge: Eldritch horror Edition!!! Each artist picks an "indescribable" horror to "describe" to the other and can only do so with yes or no answers/questions "Is the tentacle to eyeball ratio standard?" "Yes yes it is....."
Yes yes yes I love this idea! I’m pretty sure they did a similar thing with an Eldritch horror challenge they did a while back but it’d be extra wild in the yes-no style of a sketch artist challenge
Is this one of those "banger" episodes Nathan was looking for? Because damn, it hammered up the list of 'favorite episodes of the year' for me already. And if it's not, my GOD man, what do you WANT!? This was fire, scalding and primordial, straight from the fist of damn Prometheus himself!
I cannot underestimate how excited I am for Julia's drawing in Disco Elysium style, literally let out а little scream when I heard what she was doing for the ep!! Disco Elysium been my brain disease for more that a year now
Is it weird to say that I haven’t even played the game or watched a play through of it, but I got super excited too? One of my favourite Instagram artists was really into it for a while and that’s the only place I’ve consumed DE content, but I just got so excited that Julia decided to choose it that I gasped and started flapping my hands about
"She's standing there menacingly." Yup. And when she stops doing that, she twists and smashes people from across the country. God, Makima is horrifying. I love her. 🤣
man everyone went so gosh dang hard on these. i love all of them. Julia's makima draws me especially because i love the disco elysium artstyle and i feel like she really captured it
Suggestion attempt 112! You should do a lobotomy corporation episode! One person picks abnormalities and the others draw them based on the name. Some of them have really fun names (like “Little Red Riding Hooded-Mercenary” and “Meat Lantern”), and others have very vague names that could also have interesting results (like “Nothing There” and “CENSORED”)
Julia didn’t like THAT Makima?????? That was one of the most beautiful and interesting fanart I’ve ever seen. This one is also awesome. I love everything Julia makes.
Here it is. More Chainsaw Man content from Drawfee. Thanks y’all. Edit: I just remembered the episode I was thinking of, it was “drawing fan art of our problematic favs…” or something like that. Julia drew Makima and made me read Chainsaw Man, and damn that was well worth it. It was so addictive that I read the 11 volumes in one sitting on one day, simply spectacular. Edit 2: You can’t believe me how excited I got when Julia said she did Makima again… I literally shivered for a second.
whenever you guys do an anime episode I always think to my favorite anime: Golden Kamuy and every time, I feel like one, some, or all of you would really click with the level of sheer chaos in that show. it's so full of buff man fanservice, seriously, that's gotta be something... and on top of that, it has a really intriguing narrative about war and veterans healing while trying to navigate even more mounting conflict... it can be very VERY weird, and incredibly silly, and charming, but then pivot into action/adventure, and interpersonal drama, and emotionally meaningful beats that really land... it's got a little bit of everything there is to love about an anime. plus my friends loved it, and part of why I watch Drawfee is because the sense of humor here reminds me of the way we are around each other... it's a pretty promising litmus test.
I'm not trying to pick favorites, the entire team is incredibly talented, but Jacob is such a fantastic artist professionally. Like Julia is experimental, Nathan has infinite whimsy, and Karina is frustratingly effortless and consistent. But Jacob, his understanding of scene, composition, movement... its way better than he gives himself credit for, and every time he takes the time to tell a story with his art its so goddamn evocative. I want to live in every world hes ever created.
Hank Green is known for explaining tough concepts in an understandable way. What if he explained everyday ideas badly? Like in the style of Zach Anner describing movies (who I would still love to see back on the show!).
Nathan's deadpan "you have to eat your vegetables before you get your dessert" was so good lmaoooo holy wow those eyes are incredible, Julia they looked cool almost immediately but when you added the yellow gradient I was like MY GOD
Seeing Jacob attempt such a cool and difficult style inspired me and broke me out of my artblock! Thanks drawfee for creating content that motivates people to try new things and make cool stuff ❤
It's so fun to see everyone challenge themselves! Get out of that comfort zone, we're learning art y'all! I really liked the soft vs hard colors and colored lines in Nathan's piece, Jacob nailing that pose and shading, Karina's line weights and that 90's aesthetic, and Julia going chonky (especially the braid and the shadow on the shirt under the jacket and tie appeal to me) ✨
Yall's speedpaints are my favorite episodes. I think it's because there's so much more insight into your processes, and you can go so much further with your artwork on them.
WOW they all NAILED IT. Nathans is so clean, hes really good at following cartoon styles. Jacob recently has been doing plenty perspective and foreshortening its so good! The colors they picked for their pieces are so complementary is so satisfying!
Kind of a combination of two prompts, but could you draw self-inserts of yourselves in each other's favorite fandoms? (like: nathan draws himself as a yu-gi-oh character for example)
I have to thank drawfee and mainly Julia for introducing me to Chainsaw Man when she first drew Makima. Immediately I became obsessed with the manga and finished it over a few weekends. Thank you guys for always having peek taste and outstanding talent.
All of these are so amazing! I really loved Jacob's piece and I think that the style really suited him and his skills of dynamic poses and foreshortening. And the color schemes were all so great-- I love the pop-y colors of CSM
Everyone's art was amazing (as always) but I really loved Jacob's piece so much! You could tell he was pushing himself out of his comfort zone, and the results were awesome!
Honestly the fact that Julia tried and pushed through such a difficult style-change really just proves how persistent and patient she is, and I would absolute love to see her push herself even further!
Karina said she had trouble following other styles, but shes gotten so good at it! that beautiful design on that background too wow! and god Julias is so mesmerising, its literally Disco Elysium! I love a Julia paint speed draw.
I love love love, at the very end, how the four pieces look side by side. Each one is so dynamic and different to the rest. The contrast feels very complementary.
Suggestion: There are many characters based on the 7 Deadly Sins, how about characters based on the 7 Heavenly Virtues. Or Suggestion: Draw Horror Icons as Magical Girls.
16:23 Jacob, these two colours on her clothes are my absolute favourite ones. You picked an amazing colour reference on your already fantastic character.
I watched this when it came out (and even commented) but now I have consumed the Chainsaw Man content and I am here again, to enjoy it on a deeper level.
The magic of drawfee is that I don't actually know any of the characters or art styles in this episode, but I loved watching the technical challenge and execution of these illustrations so much that it doesn't matter that I don't know the source material.
I love how Nathan and Jacob both specifically mention artists from Marvel Snap, but all the artwork shown from those specific artists from from DC projects xD
Speed Draw Suggestion: Finishing off *each others CHILDHOOD drawings* Similar to the 'Finishing each others line art' episode. But adding in the old 'Redrawing our childhood drawings' episodes. Interpreting each others childhood scribbles into full artistic beauty ~☆
I still think doing a "pancake art" challenge would be fun. Doing details and shading first and finishing off with the big base colors, adding a new layer on top any time anything is going to overlap, and then reversing the order of the layers and flipping the canvas to see the final result. The weirdest parts will probably be having to do details first and then having to reverse the order of the layers at the end.
I love this adaptation of pancake art, and I also think REAL pancake art would be a blast if the crew ever does non-digital stuff like variety hour again :)
Man, Jacobs drawing made me want to change up my entire art style. It just looks so very cool. I need like 50% more thick lines and sharp edges now. (The hand specifically makes me so happy for some reason)
First comment I think. An episode idea where Nathan draws a picture then Jacob zooms way into it and draws in the other picture. Karina and Julia would do the same thing zooming and drawing in each other's drawing. And Julia's would wrap back to Nathan's. They could animate it into a 10sec gif and have it loop. It would be a really fun short on RUclips.
Nathan's : I love it and the leg behind the background thing like he is walking out of it is so cool! Jacob's : Love the colors and the composition is really rad! Karina's: I love the eyes and the background! Its so cute and adorable! Julia's : I love the mood and colors so much! The hair and the eyes are so cool
The only thing I know about chainsaw man is that the intro is a banger, ima watch it after this to relate to the jokes that you are probably going to make.
Just gotta say that I loved the way all of these turned out! Hearing your guy’s impressions of what’s cool about the different artist’s styles is really cool!
Sometimes I forget how great artists ya'll are. These were amazing. But hearing about Card Captor Sakura? That made my day. I still love the show, it's so positive. It really inspired me to be a better person.
It's a good day when Julia goes painterly in a speed draw! It would be cool to see Drawfee do something with traditional media. I remember Karina talking about doing sculptures in a fairly recent stream. That would be so exciting. Pick a prompt, then everyone creates the piece using their favorite traditional media. I don't know how you'd do it logistically, I mean recording a speed draw/paint/sculpt/etc would be more work than recording digitally. Still, it would be awesome!
Its so weird and cool to see comic artists that I've loved for years( like Dan Hipp and Kim Jacinto) being influential for you guys purely because of Marvel Snap
My favorite thing about Drawfee, especially speed draw episodes, is how much fun they have while making them! It's super inspiring to me as an artist because I'll just be like "that looks fun, I wanna do that! :D" It has an amazing way of bringing me right out of an art slump to do some silly fun poses

This Jacob piece makes me so happy, it’s wonderful to look at, and just so badass
I always feel bad pausing cause I have to watch these in bursts with my kids. You didn’t lose my view, I promise! I’m coming back to finish this!
I love love love, at the very end, how the four pieces look side by side. Each one is so dynamic and different to the rest. The contrast feels very complementary.
Suggestion: There are many characters based on the 7 Deadly Sins, how about characters based on the 7 Heavenly Virtues.
Or
Suggestion: Draw Horror Icons as Magical Girls.
16:23 Jacob, these two colours on her clothes are my absolute favourite ones. You picked an amazing colour reference on your already fantastic character.
We need a counter for how many times Nathan drops the pen. 💜💜💜💜
i love the use of the word squart in so many drawfee episodes. its such a good word
Julia's first Makima is what convinced me to read all of chainsaw man so thank you for the fantastic art and motivation
I have never not been excited for a speed draw, and y'all have ALWAYS delivered!
As someone who also really loves Disco Elysium's art style, Julia's absolutely SLAPS
I'm SO GLAD they brought in manga characters, that art of Quanxi perfectly encapsulated her Big Lesbian With Swords Energy
I love how Nathan and Jacob both specifically mention artists from Marvel Snap, but all the artwork shown from those specific artists from from DC projects xD
Speed Draw Suggestion: Finishing off *each others CHILDHOOD drawings*
Similar to the 'Finishing each others line art' episode. But adding in the old 'Redrawing our childhood drawings' episodes.
Interpreting each others childhood scribbles into full artistic beauty ~☆
Oh Wow! More Nathan doing Dan Hipp style. That is incredible
Drawfee is the stage upon which the eternal battle between Order (jacob) & Chaos (julia), Peace (nathan) & Violence (karina) is waged.
I love jacobs expressions in the ship speed draw and now the dynamic pose in this! 🎉❤ love it so much, he’s so good at pushing when he does it
I don't know why but your guys' witty banter and Art always inspired me to continue my own projects. Thanks for making content yall ❤
I love when you guys do the style challenges. I think it would be really cool to see you do this with Disney princesses!
Counter point: redraw your princess selves from that one episode in different styles.
This Drawfee episode comes with a built-in PUNCHLINE
The only thing I know about chainsaw man is that the intro is a banger, ima watch it after this to relate to the jokes that you are probably going to make.
I watched it a few weeks ago and it's actually really good, I can't wait for season 2!
Just gotta say that I loved the way all of these turned out! Hearing your guy’s impressions of what’s cool about the different artist’s styles is really cool!
Karina is so effortlessly funny, the nonchalant "my lil stinko bitch" made me laugh way harder than it should have
As someone who's been obsessing over both Marvel Snap and Chainsaw Man recenly... This is my favorite speed draw ever.
Sometimes I forget how great artists ya'll are. These were amazing. But hearing about Card Captor Sakura? That made my day. I still love the show, it's so positive. It really inspired me to be a better person.
I love the sharpie like texture of Jacob's brush for the linework and shading
It's a good day when Julia goes painterly in a speed draw!
It would be cool to see Drawfee do something with traditional media. I remember Karina talking about doing sculptures in a fairly recent stream. That would be so exciting. Pick a prompt, then everyone creates the piece using their favorite traditional media. I don't know how you'd do it logistically, I mean recording a speed draw/paint/sculpt/etc would be more work than recording digitally. Still, it would be awesome!
this is one of those "oops all cool art" kinda episodes, definitely my favorite type
