Baby Robins Leave the Nest!!

- Their parents have worked around the clock getting these three babies ready for this day. The first two young ones went so quickly that I just missed their flight but, the last one lingered in the nest for about half an hour, enjoying the space and contemplating whether or not this was really the only way out. From a safe distance, I got the whole drama on tape.
Robins are such amazing parents. Mom and Dad take turns finding and bringing food home, watching over the little ones, and keeping the nest clean. Their job continues now as the babies practise their flying and learn to become more independent. The nest will remain empty, for once they leave, the whole family moves on and doesn't come back to the nest, not even for a visit.

Wonderful video. Thank you for making it.
Update - our four left the nest yesterday...it’s a bittersweet moment when they go, after having watched them for ~2 months, it’s kinda sad to watch them leave, but also very exciting to see them take flight! Your video was so well done, it truly captures the essence of the moment! Beautiful job again on your capturing it for other! Take care!
Thanks for the update and for your kind words. It is bittersweet to see them leave.
I know this is an old video, but going through this daily with my nest of robins! Great job showing the final stage, just in case ours happens when I’m not around! Thanks!
Mine took off today. I actually spooked them out unintentionally, but they all went off just fine. Maybe getting to see it actually happen was a little show of appreciation...from someone.
I am amazed that you could film that reluctant baby without continual head - bombing from both parents. great captions!
thanks! The parents knew that I was no threat to them, and I was always respectful of their space.
My window robins fledged today before I woke up and I was so worried that I couldn't find them anywhere on the ground. Thanks to your video I have hope now that they're safe and flying around. What wonderful birds robins are, it was such a blessing to see my window robins and your robins :')
Thanks so much for the wonderful experience!
A few years back I found a baby robin on the ground actually I found two of them. I thought they were both dead but when I threw them in a bag And when i was headed to the dumpster i heard chirping So then I Quickly took them both out of the bag.
One of them actually died from the fall but the other lived, I took care of the baby, put it in a heated area and fed it tuna.
Then it was at this stage where they usually leave the nest so I waited till i think it could care for itself but it flew near me every morning and it would let me hold it and stuff. so then winter came and it went away i was hoping it would come next year and it did! and it remembered me. and i havent seen him yet this year im kinda nervous but i guess it found a better spot to live. These guys are amazing
thats awesome i have five babies and the mother on our porch light lol they hatched like 3 days ago
I'm surprised they eat tuna. There is no way they will get that in the wild.
They are so lovely and your comments/captions are so sweet!
Very sweet. Just having four here read to fly!
How'd they make out? Did you get to see them leave?
@@actualfootage yes but my cat got one...however, the other nest (four) I believe made it, and two families of swallows (8 total) which I am very proud of...not always easy with three cats.
There so lovely, was lucky to have baby robins in my garden this year and see them leave the nest.
Just had two baby robins leave the nest a few minutes ago. I have enjoyed watching them grow and am actually sad to see them go. Be safe, babies.
OMG THEY ARE SO CUTE WITH THEIr FUNNY BeAKS I LOVE THEM SO MUCH❤️❤️😭
I love this so much!! There's a robin's nest out my window, and today there's only one baby bird left in there. There were 2. I hope the other one flew off and that nothing bad happened to him/her. The baby one left in the nest seems to be sleeping. I appreciate this video very much. Thank you.
NATURE IS PRICELESS AND AMAZING AND SHOULD BE CHERISHED!
private private - my thoughts and feelings exactly. We are so blessed with beautiful amazing nature. A precious gift!
I'm currently watching 4 babies one by one take off. The last one is procrastinating like the one you filmed. This is such a treat!
Nice captions! In two weeks I hope I'm at home to see our Robins fly from the next. They just hatched today. What a gift!
Thanks. I miss my robins. There were there for just a little while and then I came home to see them and they are gone. They camped under my deck. So I dropped sliced strawberries and dried blueberries between the wood. The parents ate them but the chicks only ate worms.
Thank you for the wonderful video! Your camera work is great! Our babies just left the nest yesterday... the last one spent the night alone and joined the others yesterday morning...
Robins are amazing parents. This time, the nest was on our front porch... A few summers ago one nested in one of our trees and endured so many nasty thunderstorms. It gave me tremendous appreciation for their tenacity... and care for their young.
Thanks again!
How sweet is this, I got to experience this last year !!!!!Thanks so much!
Thank you for your video. all of our babies left just when we had turned our heads and every year I enjoy watching them leave, and this video made me feel better. thanks
We have 2 that are just about ready to make the leap. Your video helped us learn that today looks like the day!
Awesome! Let us know how it goes.
@@actualfootage they didn't go yesterday - maybe due to heavy rain - but they leapt this morning. The parents missed the second one go and came back panicking and looking everywhere. Amazingly, a pair of house finches that have been hanging around helped the parents find them in the neighbors' bushes. Now they're all staying close to the chicks like one big happy family!
Amazing! Thanks for letting us know.
:) That was amazing! I had some Robins near my porch window that I've been watching for almost two weeks. This morning I went to view them and they had already flew out of the nest (it was empty). So, your video was wonderful to see because I wondered what happened to them.
This was my back porch 2 years ago. Thanks for posting.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video. I have had a robin building a nest and nursing two babies for quite a while on my back porch light (just like the one in the video). However, we have two big dogs. I told my husband and daughter not to let the dogs into the backyard, because the babies would be leaving the nest soon. I came home this afternoon to two dogs in the backyard and no babies in the nest. I was worried sick that the babies stay on the ground for a while and that the dogs would get them. This video gave me comfort that they are able to fly away to the branch of the nearest tree and get quickly out of harms way. The mother bird was certainly aware of the dangers over the last couple months since one of my dogs chased her on a couple occasions when she was on the ground getting worms. I don't see any trace of her or the two babies, so seeing this video gives me confidence that the baby birds are safely out of the backyard and enjoying their new stage of life!
Great video! At the moment, there are 4 robin nestlings on top of one of the beams at my patio. I've been watching them since the 26th of May. The nestlings look like those in the video now so it's just a matter of days before they fly.
The momma robin used to fly away when I got near, usually when I was rolling the lawn mower around or opening the fence gate but now, she doesn't even mind when I walk through. I've done everything I could to protect the robins since they took residence at my property. I've installed motion floodlights and pest repellers to deter the raccoons and even talked to my neighbor about keeping her cats indoor just until the birds fly away. Even though they haven't left yet, it feels good to know I've done my part to keep the babies safe and to grow big enough to fly.
Go little babies, fly and be free!
Me too. Mine are on day 14 since they hatched.
@@NextGenerationHealth update: 3 have left this afternoon. 1 is still in the nest. Will check tomorrow.
They all left yesterday. I saw the last two leave, flying very clumsily. Not sure where they're staying at but I can see some robins which I assume are the parents in a nearby maple tree.
He did it !!!!!
We have had Robin nests for years and have never seen them leave, although we have seen the recent babies in our back yard with the parents. Great video!
Robins only lay one egg a day, so the fledglings are usually hatched in the same order. This must be the last one to hatch. So cute, thank you for sharing. I currently have a nest of robins outside my kitchen window. So fun to watch.🐣
I have a nest under my deck, and I think I accidentally scared the 9 day-old babies out this morning. So I'm relieved to learn yours were only 8 days old. Thank you for posting your film that must have taken a lot of patience. I'm still worried about my babies.
Thanks for your comment. Have you seen the babies or the parents lately? They were probably ready to fly.
@@actualfootage I've been looking. I saw the parents near the nest twice, but they didn't seem to know where the babies were. I felt sad. I hope the babies are ok. The vinca under the nest is very thick. In one of my last photos (take from my laundry room window) at least one of the babies looked like it was thinking about jumping out of the nest. Robins are such a successful species. So I'm hoping the babies are ok.
just watched this because my sister sent it and she also has a nest at her home! this was just great. thanks so much for filming.
Thanks for sharing this video it gives me peace . When I got back home today the two baby Robbins I've been watching for the bast two weeks were no longer in the nest. So this put my mind at ease.
Birds learning to fly takes time and patience
4 baby robins just left the nest in my front porch awning today. I will miss them so much! Fare thee well, babies ❤
I love your video
Good video! Robins nested so I could see them out of my window. Woke up this morning and they were gone! Went to get the trash cans and I'm pretty sure I saw the parents following their babies, one even had some food in it's mouth! It was cool checking up on them,I'll miss them!
Absolutely loved this. Thanks for sharing with us 😉
Great video footage and subtitles! My baby robins just flew their coop today!
Our Robins had 5 babies, today they all flew except for one. I hope the Momma comes back and feeds him and gives him some encouragement to fly.
What happened? Did you get to see?
Thank you for sharing and I LOVE your subtitles on it. So Adorable. We have a Robin's nest that we've been watching from day 1 - eggs to grown birds. Today I went to take my daily picture and they were gone! They didn't even say goodbye! It's kinda heartbreaking. Thank you for showing me how they fly out of the nest. Makes me feel better and now I didn't miss anything.
The babies in our bush left the nest this morning but one baby is just setting on the porch railing for the past few hours. I hope they all survive as there are cats in the area. Great video!
I loved your captions speaking for the little robin......so so cute!!
Thank you!
We just had a similar adventure with Robins ...wonderful memories..wish I could have "taped" it
Those babies that left the nest still have to be fed by momma robin! They haven't learned how to forage for foods. That takes a few more days. The fledglings will remain in the area not too far from the nest, and the momma has to feed each of them, and will sometimes forage right near them.
I got the same experience, but did not see them living the nest, wish i was hoping.this morning i woke up and for my surprise they were gone. I jus hope they doing alright ..I'll be missing them.
That nest looked perfect.🥰
I would title your lovely video, “Sheldon - The Early Years - Always A Worrier”. Adorable!
Beautifull
Thank you!
awesome video. the 4 babies I've been watching on the neighbors window ledge are still there and being fed by the parents. a few minutes ago one got up on the edge of the nest but must have chickened out because he got back in.
Just came across your video. We, also, just had 3 babies leave the nest this morning. Very Cool !!
So cute! I love it!
There's a robin's nest right above one of my windows. Today I saw the mother trying to - what it looks like - to coax her babies to fly but I don't think they're ready yet.
Too darn cute!!! Wonderful subtitle👍- i just checked a nest on my back deck also built on a lamp: hadn t seen the babies for awhile: empty nest too!!!
Very cute! I have been videoing a nest right next to my front door from tiny, bluest, blue eggs to today, 5-20-18 - they hatched 8 days ago. They have grown feathers since just yesterday. It's pretty great watching them grow every day. I guess they'll be out of the nest in a just a few days. They won't have far to fall! 😆 😍
It's amazing!
Nice. Thanks for posting. I loved your captions. Very funny.
Loved this!
thank you for this great video, and commentating.. I really enjoyed it:)
I have a tree right out my window and there's like 3 different nest's one a right by my window just hatched 2 days ago. So cute
I got to watch the robins build their nest right outside my window, watched what good parents they are feeding their babies about every 15 minutes from sun up, until sun down. They were knocked out of their nest by a raven, who took one of the babies but my son was able to put them back in their nest. Next came a squirrel which I ran off just in the nick of time!
This morning they flew away! I am glad we were able to save the babies!
ours just left the nest but were not ready to fly apparently.
Hope they can before the cats find em!
Terrific
I'm glad they were in a safe place where raccoons can't get to them
Lovely film - nicely done!
I like
I have watched this process on my own balcony. I remember the first day when I thought the wind had blown this dead grass up on my balcony deck. Then I looked up and noticed some hanging from the light. At first I was going to take it down and not let the nest be built, but then I changed my mind. Wanted to see how the whole thing went. I was excited to see the nest with its nearly perfect round shape, then the eggs (4) came, then they all hatched and changed so fast in those 2 weeks!
nice video. I just located it as I have 4 baby robins that hatched late last week and I was curious how long before they fly off. Nest is sitting atop a section of a 24 in log in the log cabin we live in....deck is covered by roof but was shocked the high winds we get didn't blow it off. Mother appears young herself but wonderful care with the partner of these 4 babies so far. I realized sitting outside early morning a few weeks ago a nest was being built. I was fortunate to have and make the time from 6-11 a.m. to see her making the nest/stomping the inside down and dipping prairie grass into muddy soil to hold it together. What a memory! Hope like you I can see them fly away but your video is the next best thing!
...Thanks for this!! we had a Ronin's nest on our windowsill, & the only survivor climbed out of the nest yesterday...he didnt find his way back in until today, but i saw him perched on the edge, & now hes gone!!? really hope they flew away, he was about the same size/age as yours...
use to get doves nest in my hanging plant. sometimes i could stroke her back as she sat on the eggs. but, she would ruffle her feathers to make her seem bigger.
currently i have a finches nest in a hanging wreath outside. i have found blackbird's nest and robin's too!!
@djdulin thanks! I hope you get to see the ones outside your window leave the nest. It's a weird feeling, though, once they've gone - gives a whole new meaning to the term "empty nest!"
Great video! I have one in my backyard that's getting ready to fledge the nest today or tomorrow. I hope I get to witness it! Thanks for sharing! I'm in VA.
Nicely done JP. I have one on my outside lights as well. THey are almost ready to fly as it is day 8. How fast they grow....
Ken Camarda thank you Ken. Yes, it all happens so quickly - I was mesmerized by the whole process!
Who would dislike this!?
Really enjoyed this video. It was really well done. I was even a little nervous for the little guy. We discovered a Robins nest in one of our shrubs just out side the bedroom window so now we know what to expect now thanks to you and your video. Great job. Thanks for posting. Thumbs up all the way.
A Nature Video grapher or bird taker of videos, anyway good video but the Kubota's videos are my type of videos.
Jerry Busby
Other than Kubota's I think the greatest thing God ever created was our feathered friends
I can agree with God's creations and someday soon I think we will see them as they were intended to be. I am so much looking forward to day!
Paul Short Thank you Paul. Did you get to see the ones by your window fly away?
Yeah they left me some memories in my favorite smoking spot after weeks of the mother flying directly into my face....
I had baby Robin's leave the nest today last one took her time but went
I didn't know it took only 8 days for the babies to fledge, I thought it was longer.
I thought it would take at least two weeks, but this bunch was quick.
Mine where on a lampstand too! I feel really bad because I went to take a picture before they left the nest and jumped almost on top of me, it couldn't even walk like Bambi :(
Got 2 coming down in my garden.
I had some babies too and I was watching them. There were 3 of them and momma would come in and take care of them I was hoping they would hang around until my grand kids came. One day 2 were gone and the third had a harder time leaving the nest. I knew one day at lunch he would be gone too and I wished it well. I got home from work and it was gone I was so happy. Until I walked around with my dogs to the other side and it hoped out and my dogs got it. I thought I saved it but it died in my arms. I was so sad that this was this poor babies end. I was watching this video to see if this is how they fly out by falling down first. Momma had it safely tucked in on a gutter behind a lavender bush. I am very heartbroken this baby died did not tast it's first flight?
almost every year I get a robin nest right next to my door and I always end up scaring one out of the nest but usually they are old enough to fly.
I love this I just wish the mama Robin in my neighborhood would stop dropping her baby poop all over the edge of my pool and deck!
there is a robin that just finished building its nest on a tree right next to my bedroom window
Did you watch them grow and fly away?
@@actualfootage yeah
@@actualfootage well i missed them flying away because i wasnt at my house at the time but i watched them go from just being eggs to being all fluffy
Hear the Mother/Father Robin warning you / trying to chirp you away
I've had bird nest on my porch two years now, fascinating, one day they are there, next day gone.
@TheNatester222 that would be a good thing to google! I wonder if it is what all birds do, to keep their nests clean? I noticed that the parents didn't eat every single one they plucked out ... sometimes they just flew away with it in their beak ... and then probably promptly dropped it, splattering on the ground!
Great video...iIhave 3 lil robins outside my window sill that will probaly leave the nest any day now. Im like a nervous mother lol. Thanks for sharing.
thats awesome i have five babies and the mother on our porch light lol they hatched like 3 days ago
We had mummy robin made nest she had 3 babies so cute, the nest wasn't big enough cause mother sit on top of the nest. The babies getting big the mother on cement ground she had food worms in mouth, yesturday morning last time saw mother robin and 3 babies i was away with my mother when got back before 3pm, found out around noon time mother and babies robin left the nest i wish i saw them leave it would so cute. Almost like 3 baby robins it is amazing how mother robin looks after her babies so intersting, i miss them all remember pooping on ground leave a mess😔 wondering what do you do with the nest? Keep it leave for next bird comes? Or take down well my mother going keep it not coming down. Robins interesting bird all kinds fat one slim ones they are cute birds in away😊!
Four little ones are in a nest in my neighbour's eavestrough, and I can tell already that the nest is gonna be way too small. I'm about to post a video of them.
I wonder if animals actually do suffer self-doubt like humans.
Good question! I wonder, too. Or maybe it's a timing thing?
thats very true but they actually are mostly fed by the male for about 2 more weeks, meanwhile the female starts a new nest.
Is nobody gonna talk about how the mom ate the babys poop😂
The first time I saw it I was stunned. I thought the parent was removing the downy feathers or something to help them fly better. But, yeah, that's how they keep their nests clean. Not so much the walls and other nearby objects, though, when they fly away with it in their mouths and let it go. We have a sign on our mailbox that says "No Drop-offs" but it doesn't help, lol.
@actualfootage that's funny. My 12 y.o. actually posted that after I pointed it out to him. We had a mom build her nest on the front porch light so we were anxious for the babies to leave so we could remove the nest and clean all the poop up. Mom has happily moved on and found a more agreeable place to nest.
I witnessed a last one out of the nest last Sunday.
aww so precious...mine just left and i'm sad not to watch any movement in the empty nest
It's real - empty nest syndrome! I felt sadness too after these birds left.
All our robins have left their nests, only one died. We think he got confused being near machinery and did not know which way to leave and he died, we did not find him until he was expired, rip. We have a family of robins that return each year and this was the only dead one for more than a decade as far as we know at least til they fly. Our first robin came over 10 years ago. We did not have robins before that due to cold temps, over time they get white age spots so you can recognize them.
That's amazing, only one in ten years! I realized the year after I made this video-the year after we moved into this house-that they do like to come back year after year. Unfortunately, by then, we'd changed up our light stand, where they'd made their nest. They attempted a nest in a cedar out front, but it was too low to the ground and the eggs didn't make it to hatch. I was sad for the parents because it seemed they were confused, and it made me wonder how long they'd been making their nest on that lamp stand for.
Thanks for sharing the video. Having raised pet birds for many years, I watch when wild birds hatch as well. Understanding the life cycle, I have a question. I have been following 3 baby robins from hatching to flight (yesterday). The total timeframe from birth to flight in my experience has always been 12-14 days, and these were no exception. So imagine my surprise with your "Day 8" marker. Do you think you might be off by a week? Or were these three baby robins avian prodigies?
robins fledge in 8 to ten days, its true.but are cared for by the adults for about two to three more weeks.
This is beautiful. May I link it in a web quest on Art of STEM Online?
Yes, please do, as long as you don't alter the video. Thanks for asking.
actualfootage and a foot for your pic. awesome funny joke! lol! hahaha! XD
I Need help..Just found a baby chick on the ground..what should i do to nurse him to adulthood?
