Yes, we had a great Sunday dinner, thanks to your dish. The last coconut was spoilt so used dried coconut, ran out of ginger, so used powder. Didn't have fennel seeds, but it was great. Thanks a lot. ps. Had my molars extracted 3 days ago, but I gorged on this, worth the aching gums!!!!
Sudhir, Thank you so much. We have given the ingredients used in Goa to make authentic Channa Ros. But you can modify it to add tomatoes instead of Tamarind & you can also skip the sugar if you want, No problem at all. 🙂
Amelia, you will get it in both markets, Margao & Mapusa. Just check with anyone in the market and they will guide you. Button chillies are locally grown chillies used mostly by Hindu Goans in their recipes. They prefer these compared to Kashmiri chillies as they are more spicy and don't give a red color to the dish 🙂
Thank you so much Jenny. Yes we have used white peas to make this dish & traditionally these are the peas that are used to make this dish, but the dish is called Chonyacho Ros in Goa. 😀

Beautifully made. Did you grind the tamarind?
Yes, the tamarind was ground along with the other ingredients. It was put in the mixer just before the turmeric & water.
Name some shops in Goa as to where l will get button chillies. When l go to Goa, l will buy some. Thx. ..Mapuca or Margao ? .
Amelia, you will get it in both markets, Margao & Mapusa. Just check with anyone in the market and they will guide you. Sorry to say, you have used white peas not chana as mentioned.
Thank you so much Jenny. Yes we have used white peas to make this dish & traditionally these are the peas that are used to make this dish, but the dish is called Chonyacho Ros in Goa. 😀

We don't get these chillies Here what is the other options it's delicious
You can you even use kashmiri red Chillies but then the color will change slightly.
Are these white peas or kabuli chana?
Windsor, we have used white peas (vatana)🙂.... The name of this dish is deceptive because it is called Chonyacho Ros 😄
brother white peas are known as pila matar or yellow peas ... how it changed to chana (chikpeas)?
Einstein, if you watch the video you will notice that we have used white peas / vatana but this dish is called Chonyacho Ros in Goa. But it's not made with Chana😄 Do check out our Vegetarian playlist on the channel
Yes it's white vatana. You are right. .Though it is called Chana Ros. Thx. See it closely.
Green peas
are used for Puloa.
@@Amelia-zb8iwhmmm chana ros? i did not know that ... almost all of india calls peas as matar ... vatan will be understood as matar in some parts (gujarat, maharashtra) ... i guess word ros means stew / curry in konkani?
When you add the tamarind
Khairoon, you need to add the tamarind while grinding the masala. Check Step 5 carefully towards the end just before adding the Turmeric.
Or you may eat it as side-dish
Antonio Xavier, that's really funny 🤣
Do the chanas cook if salt is added in the cooker?are the curry leaves also ground, wont it make the rvy slightly bitter?
👍🏻
Thank you so much Jyoti 🙂
ماهو التشاناز، شكرا
Faizah, they are white peas 🙂

We called पांढरे वटाणे.
But nice recipe.

Sudhir, we have mentioned that this is white Vatana. In Goa this dish is called Chonaycho Ros but it's actually made with white Vatana 😀
This is not chana...Known as saphed vatana...
We are aware that these are not channa, and it's mentioned that these are vatana or white peas. But this dish is called Chonyacho Ros in Goa. 🙂
सफेद मटर को चना कहते हो यह आज जाना ।
फिर चना को क्या कहा जाये ?
Ashvin, This preparation is called Chonyacho Ros in Goan restaurants & homes. Don't take the word channa literally 🤣
