Given I’m doing a full rewrite of the series and will be checking into Vacuo often now that I’m in V6 territory, anyone who reads it can expect the Summer Maiden to be making an appearance… probably this year. It just took over 100 chapters to get there.
I feel a great disturbance in he fandom as if many fanfics were launched.

Conspiracy Theory: The Summer Maiden is Ciel. From the small snippet we(probably) got, the Summer Maiden looks dark skinned, and since Ciel is the North Star from Pinnochio, what's a star? A sun. You know what burns hot during the summer? THE SUN. What do you jump in to cool off during the summer? A BLUE POOL.
Ciel means sky and Soleil means sun (hot like summer). You tend to see the sun more brightly (bright could also mean smart as Ciel seems to be) in the sky during the summer. Her shade of blue is a vibrant and light enough to symbolise the sky in the day. Summer has longer days so you'd see that colour more often. Her shade of white is similar to clouds on a sunny day. Sunny, like hot summer weather

Remember when we once thought Team RWBY would eventually get the maiden powers. Those were good times.
& yet, a part of me is going "But two of the Maidens are direct relatives to the girls, & Cinder hates Ruby, potentially to her dying breath..." All I'm saying is, if the Summer Maiden turns out to be a Faunus, it'll be hard to ignore those coincidental parallels.
I’m still not ruling that out completely with half of the maidens being relatives of RWBY.

I still think Team RWBY is our greatest clue. The maidens will be / are one breath away from the main four girls.
I mean it's not entirely out of the question. They killed off a lot of characters in volume 8.
0:12 Ozpin really shouldn't have given out majority of his magic power to the first Four Maidens without a failsafe to take back the power if a Maiden goes rogue and misuse it selfishly.
As much as I like Oz I really do think at some point he should have used some of his magic to lock the powers in place where they couldn't just be stolen if the maiden was killed you should have set up a system to where the powers will automatically go to the next person who's already been chosen at a
different location he should have also figured out a way to maybe have it where those powers are transferred to someone else instead of just women
because if you think about it Salem is a woman at some point she could maybe end up with the powers herself say is sender did manage to steal some of the other made in powers and then at
some point sender gets killed off the power could end up with Salem making her even more powerful again as much as I like the man he doesn't think things through I'm guessing that's why he always has to get paired up with a like-minded soul cuz he's like my soul has to be the one to think for the both of them 😂
I love Ozpin but so many problems would’ve been solved if he was a little more unethical ngl LOL
I assume Ozpin gave them the powers as a means of passing his problems onto others at a point where he'd given up on finding away to solve them himself.
Considering they only created the power transfer machine out of necessity in volume 3, and the only other way to transfer the power without Grimm magic was for the maiden to die, that doesn't have the best implications.

I think I can kinda this, I think Summer was the previous Summer Maiden but before she died by whatever Salem did to her, she didn't want to stick Ruby, Yang, or possibly even Raven with the responsibility and danger of being a Maiden, so if she was on the battle field at the time, she probably thought of Glenda, someone she knew could defend herself at the time and was close enough to Ozpin to be able to keep it secret or pass the magic off as her semblance
the only thing though is wouldn't salem have sent someone after ruby when she was a child if that were the case? unless salem knew zero details about the people directly opposing her which is possible but would also be incredibly stupid of her
@aelitastones1 It's possible that she didn't go after Ruby and Yang at the time because young children remind her of her own.
Salem was, after all, a mother as well, so she waited till Ruby and Yang could defend themselves.
I don't think that is the case. Besides the easy connection by the name, I doubt the writers would make it that obvious. Also Summer was a silver eyed warrior. So I don't know that they would have piled so many advantages onto one character.
My working theory was that she went up against Salem thinking she could take her down with SE. But failed miserably because Oz did not give her all the facts about what she was going up against. (Oz didn't even know she tried before it was too late.)
That theory has since been up dated with the reveal in V9 that Summer and Raven teamed up for a secret mission. My new theory is, Qrow might have gotten captured while spying on Salem. Raven recruited a reluctant Summer to help her rescue her brother. Things when south when they were over powered by Salem and her forces. Summer tries to buy time by holding Salem at bay while Raven ports herself and Qrow out of there. Summer perishes in the resulting fight with Salem, but not before her Silver eyes disfigures Salem with the scars. Might also explain Qrow's depression over what happened to Summer.
@@aelitastones1 I would agree. There was nothing to put Ruby on Salem's radar as a threat. UNTILL, it was revealed that she was a Silver Eyed Warrior.
If it's going to be a new character, I hope they are similar to Tatiana from your prewrite. We are so far removed from Ruby and Zwei being the Dorothy and Toto of Remnant that it would make sense to finish the Oz Septet with a Toto Allusion.
People were already theorizing Glynda as the Relic of Knowledge (Only because her emblem is a crown) and her only being a Maiden would still fit.
The less said about RWBY's "Magic System" in later Volumes, the better.

Could be someone from Team NDGO, but unlikely.

Giving it to either Coco or Velvet would make their involvement in the earlier volumes retroactively more important, and allow their friendship with Team RWBY to be a plot point; after all, two of their friends were a Maiden and a candidate and we all know how that worked out for them. Something for the cast to have understandable conflict about.

Glynda being the Summer Maiden makes sense, looking back on everything. It never made sense that Glynda was "too old" to get the Maiden power. She can't be any older than Raven.
I guess the idea is that Raven got the maiden powers when she was just a student under Ozpin or at least before or a little after Yang was born.
Remember that episode where they are explaining the maiden process to Pyrrha? Qrow says that the maiden powers can’t be passed on to a dude- or some old hag. And he glances over at Glynda as he says it and she glares death back at him?
Agree, Glynda makes some sense that she is Summer. (Though I thought the summer maiden would be based in Vaccuo.)
Also there is no age limit on having the power. Only getting it. Glynda could have gotten it young. Maybe she was once a student under Ozpin. Probably been at Beacon forever. It's probable she is aware of his penchant for reincarnation.

That that is where she encounter the then spring maiden. Tried to train her in the ways of the tribe, but failed. Ultimately resulting in her getting the power.

I have a feeling that Glynda is the Crown of Knowledge relic in human form and the summer maiden has silver eyes.
The Summer Maiden is obviously one of the Malachite Twins.
Remember when they fought Cordovin in Volume 6.5?
Theory: Oscar's aunty Em is the summer maiden and hes known this whole time, but hes been so resentful of Ozpin and his fear for his aunts saftey that hes refused to say anything
I've seen speculation that it might be Sun's older cousin Starr due to mention of her having an 'uncanny sense for the weather' around the end of Before The Dawn, but there is also a good chance he would have recognised her in the meeting he walked in on.
Its Ciel, RT was pulling a fast one on us the whole time with not including her in Atlas, Ironwood sent her off to Vacuo to become the new Summer Maiden after the fall of Beacon and the reason shes not in the books is because she's in hiding doing training.
I'll be honest, I'm so worried its going to end up being Ruby who is the summer maiden. They said how she had just disappeared without a trace, and Summer did just that when she went off to fight salem. Not only that, but whenever we saw the outlines of the maidens, one clearly had petals around her in the same way Ruby does whenever she uses her 'semblance'. Summer was said to have the same ability and Hops even said how Ruby's semblance was speed but, that there was something off about her ability too.
Whenever Ruby uses her ability, she becomes petals that can do a lot more than speed. So, its all feeling not subtle at all that Summer was likely the summer maiden and thus, thought she could fight salem and handle it. Especially with being a silver eyed weilder too. But when she realized her mistake, she likely thought of her family and thus, Ruby became a maiden. If she isn't fully realized, that explains how Ruby doesn't know and thinks her ability is just a normal semblance.
That's my thought anyways. If its proven wrong, GREAT. Things shouldn't be that obvious and Ruby really doesn't need MORE main proganist superpowers. But if it isn't Ruby, than I'm worried like you, its just going to end up being a new random character.
I’ve been going on the theory that they’ve been lining up the maidens as characters who would pass their powers on to our main 4 girls.
The powers go to who you’re thinking of when you die, and right now we have Weiss in line to get Winter and Yang in line to get Spring.
If Summer is Summer and still alive inside some gruesome experiment somewhere, Ruby could pull down Summer.
That just leaves Blake to get Fall… doesn’t fit perfectly since she has little to do with Cinder but maybe it could work somehow.
If the girls are going to become Maidens, it makes more sense that Ruby would become the fall Maiden due to Cinder’s vendetta against her. Either Ruby directly kills her making her Cinder’s last thoughts, or something Ruby did or related to Ruby kills Cinder putting Ruby in her last thoughts. If Glynda is the Summer Maiden, I think Glynda giving her powers to Blake is feasible. The story would have to do backflips to try and establish Glynda as being an adult figure that Blake trusted in Beacon, but I could get behind it a lot easier than Summer still being alive 10 volumes later
@@calicomarker Yeah the Cinder-Ruby connection is admittedly much stronger than with Blake. But the seasonal theming just works so much better with Ruby as summer: her colors, her personality, her mom...
If I was writing it I'd make it part of a last-act face-turn for Cinder- maybe she resents that she was never told her new arm would slowly take her over? Or whatever Salem told her to bring her on-side in their first meeting was a lie? Either way, it's some kind of last minute F-you to her old boss.

I allways thought that glenda's storm and ice shards and such were made by manipulation of dust through her semblance
Star Wukong from the end of the second book, Sun introduces her at the end for no reason. She ticks the faunus maiden idea. Also the idea the summer maiden is someone that appeared in vol1-3 is a problem, if even glynda was a maiden you'd question why she wouldn't use that power to defend beacon and just defeat cinder.

I've always thought that Glynda was the Summer Maiden. The only thing that could really make more sense, would be some new character who dies and passes it on to Yang. And then she gets mentored by Glynda.
Yang is already connected to Raven.
And mentoring for any member of Team R/W/BY is no longer shown after V6. They instantly know everything already.

I was thinking the summer maiden could be Sun's cousin. She's a character that was introduced in the books, you could develop Sun more with him finding out his cousin that took care of him for years is this all power being with a target on her back. Plus I don't know I feel like that whole tree in the desert vision that Sun uses to focus maybe have something to do with maiden powers like what if one of their mothers were the previous maiden and they died there at that tree or something idk I'm just theorizing too.

If you read the EC Meyers After the Fall and Before the Dawn books, I think it's heavily implied that the Summer Maiden in Sun Wukong's cousin Starr

Frankly i think it matters less who the current maiden is but rather who will inherit her powers and I am Positive its gonna be one of team RWBY and you cannot convince me otherwise
If team rwby inherits the summer maiden powers it'll be Ruby that gets it to make her allude to Summer even more
If the plan was for Team RWBY to get all the maiden powers, I'd assume at least one of them would have it by now. Unless the plan is for all four of them to get them back to back, with Raven, Cinder, Winter, and whoever else dying all in quick succession, which I can't imagine not being forced and contrived.

My theory is that the maidens will all know Team RWBY and die, giving their powers to the heroes. Cinder will die thinking of Ruby, Winter and Weiss, Raven with Yang. And the only "maiden" thats close to Blake is Illia. To be clear, Illia is not the maiden now. The current maiden will die, and pass the powers to Illia. A season or two later, Illia will die and pass the powers to Blake. Ruby will be the Fall Maiden, Weiss will have Winter, Blake will be Summer, and Yang will be Spring.
Velvet as a Maiden is the thing I didn't know I needed but that I now need TODAY.
While it's obviously going to be a new character, i hope the PERMANENT Summer Maiden is actually Velvet or Coco. It would bring Team CFVY into the limelight again and their semblances would go so well with the Maiden powers. Velvet could just create the weapons she uses and Coco could boost her Maiden powers with her semblance.
Summer could have been one of the previous ones and that's how they found out she was dead, because they found the next Summer Maiden.

There's Also another pattern. the maidens rarely if ever are in the same continent. Probably a failsafe from ozpin. Why have the maiden in one place when they are more difficult to track down when separate.

But seriously, Glynda being the Summer Maiden seems like a neat idea, but meeting a new character isn't that bad of an idea either, at least imo. Guess we shall see if the Vol. 10 is ever released
On the other hand, I like the designs of your merch. I can't buy it myself, but hope everyone else who gets it enjoys wearing it, while posing like a Jojo character. If you wanna some drip for the Autumn season, this is what you need
It would also be kind of funny in a way if she was the summer maiden, because her emblem is a crown some people have speculated that maybe she's connected to the relic of choice, but her actually being the summer maiden and therefore being more connected to the relic of destruction would probably throw people for a loop.
Personally I think it's a fun idea, better then introducing a whole new character and it would satisfy some fan theories people have had for a while.

The summer maiden being a new character seemed the most likely until Sun shut down the idea in V9: Beyond - That said it could have just been a way to lampshade the criticism before they do it anyway.
Summer Rose seems likely to have been the Summer maiden before her death, with how they made Winter the Winter maiden. It would actually be more of a twist at this point if she wasn't.
Coco is a fun option, but I think her style of combat doesn't mesh well with the maiden powers we've seen.
The downside to Velvet being the Summer maiden is she'd probably use elemental weapons (like Penny did with her swords) instead of her hard-light copies from then on.
Glynda makes sense, though she's always seemed rather boring to me. If she is the maiden, I hope she's given more significant character work.
Whoever it is, by the end of the season I'm expecting the current Summer maiden to die and Nora to become the new Summer maiden. Her recent focus and narrative journey to find herself just fit the bill - plus the relic of destruction contrasting her arc of "be strong and hit stuff" from volume 8.

My original theory years ago was that Ruby was unknowingly the current Summer Maiden, and her mother, SUMMER Rose, wad the maiden before her. Ruby would of became the Maiden after Summer's death, implying that her daughter was the last though she had befor dying.
I assumed the her big explotion of power she released at the end of Volume 3, that nuked Cinder and all the Grimm was her Maiden Powers, and that Qrow mentioning that her "Silver Eyes" are a rare trait later in the episode was just him subtlety hinting that Ruby inherited MANY traits from her mother.
Also she was frickin' named "SUMMER" for crying out loud. It's not like RT was very subtle with the names of the Maidens.

I think the summer maiden might end up being a villain we haven't met yet... Or someone cinder kills off very quickly (so we can get the whole "cinder gets all the maiden powers" ball finally rolling).
The maidens roughly seem to correspond to the cardinal witches from the wizard of oz (hence why there's four). Not so much in character inspirations but in the theming of the maidens - with the witches of the north and south being good (winter and amber - cinder doesn't count since she unnaturally stole hers) while the witches of the east and west being wicked (raven in the east and ??? In the west).
Alternatively, we will get to see a good witch of the west (summer maiden) but have her be gutted by cinder soon after - taking on the thematic direction of Salem's inspiration as her first successful attempt at couping her master and becoming the new wicked witch of the west... Which will ultimately fail, but cinder isn't known for hee foresight.
The hooded figure in the “RWBY: Beyond” video; even though she is all covered up, she still has a FAR darker skin tone than Glynda Goodwitch. And her eyes seem to be more dark brow or even black. I’m starting to think she may even be a black woman.
I think Star might be the Summer Maiden (Sun's cousin who lives in Vacuo). The only evidence I have for this is that she's a new character who serves no other purpose. To be fair it's been almost four years since I read Before the Dawn but I don't think she actually does anything of substance
I think the theory of glynda being a relic makes more sense
FINALLY someone else has brought us this theory. I have suspected Gylnda being a maiden since like vol 4 while rewatching the series. Another example is the vol 2 when the food war scene came to its conclusion and Gylnda fixed the damage in a magical way. and also her weapon is a wond like is one of the few weapons (rom vols 1-4) than was not also a gun. cause if you think of it,
Cinder: she glass bended her weapons and at the closest we seen her use a gun a bow
Amber: Used a staff that had no gun mode
Winter: Used a sword with a trigger mechanisms to help her use dust with her gliphs, but not actual guns
the old lady: she did use a weapon
Penny: was the outlier who was never meant to be a maiden
Raven: Uses a huge katana with no gun mode
Possibly the most important? Glynda needs a reason to exist. She hasn’t really done anything - odd for a character who appeared prominently in the first episode
However, Cinder FALL, WINTER Schnee, they haven’t tried to be subtle so far (to the point I don’t think anyone seriously thought Winter would be a maiden because it’s so obvious) - so as much as I’d hate it I wouldn’t be surprised if Summer was the Summer maiden
Glynda would be an interesting option for the Summer Maiden, and I really like the idea of maidens staying away from their respective vaults for as long as possible. However, I think the most likely person is Starr Sanzang, Sun's cousin who is introduced in Before the Dawn. Not only would she fit the Faunus maiden bill, but she's notably described as having a keen sense for the weather.

Velvet because it would likely be the easiest to implement powerups to her semblance, like go past the limitations of using up each of her weapons
I think it should be a villain since RWBY has killed so much off and the heroes are really bloated. So I think one of the Malachite's could be good.
Even if RT is shut down, the show and writers haven’t changed. So still thinking like an RT writer, there can really be two options: original soon-to-die character or Glynda. Unless said original character lives on better than others for the longest time, that be interesting too. And Vol 8 setup a Glynda cameo during the broadcast.

feel like everyones had thsi thought in the back of the mind for a while since glynda's whole kit relies on telekinesis yet has shown to do more than just that
I don't know about that especially with crwby and them constantly reconing things and ect. Plus wouldn't cinder and her group figure out who she is and will killed them as well just like the fall maiden. Like if beacon was falling they should clearly used there powers to get rid of much of the grimm and save many people as possible. Also I hate the summer argument because that ask the question where was she the entire time and that she abannoned her family. Plus I don't believe the "whole planned from the beginning" thing because of the constant recons, things from vol 1,2 and 3 and how it doesn't connect to vol to 8 and especially 9 (which I hate) espically with certain characters like Adam, Blake, Ironwood, Ozpin and also certain things as well like ironwood decent "into madness" adam and blake realtionship, the whole stupid bumblebee/wasps ship(that cause so much damage and makes zero sense on why these two would ever like each other especially when they like guys and yang should still be angry at blake. God I hate this ship and can't stand it why people defend this cancer). sorry for the rant fun video to do it just there things that connect. Than again we will never know because we will not get a vol 10 and rwby won't get a contunation because why would viz continue when crwby not only failed numerous times but lost so much fans and to pander people who don't care about rwby and plus it doesn't help when they said rwby isn't proftiable anymore and will most likey do a reboot and be a smart thing to do to get rid of rt mess as well. Which I also hope as well because the way crwby ruined the story, make the characters beyond unlikeable and how they ruind relationships like ruby and yang for shipping and for pander certain groups, and just shown they don't care it needs to get a reboot. Like why not make a icequeendom or contunive it there viz manga or start over and do there thing which I hope we do get a reboot and have them start over
3:10 Y'know, it's funny you mention this. I had a theory a while back that each of the Team Rwby would get the maiden powers through the current users deaths. I figured Winter and Raven would die, giving their powers to Wiess and Yang respectively, and I thought Ruby would final best Cinder in combat or something, and her dying thoughts would be on how a child beat her. What would seal the deal for me if the next maiden has any kind of relationship with Blake, I guess if Velvet were the maiden it could also work since she knows blake already.

I think Glynda is the crown relic in human form. Her symbol is a crown and they even gave her blue gold earrings styled after the relics during that clip when ruby sent out the message. She didn't used to have those and the colors are both specific and not part of her pallet, that was a deliberate choice.

We have to keep in mind cinder isn't inheriting the powers naturally. So might not be possible under most situations.
If oz really wanted no one to get the relics he would have destroyed the keys. Or made himself the one key.
To my knowledge the maidens and magic was shoe-horned in in volume 3. Cinder was originally meant to be just a dust mage that wove the dust into her clothes, hence the scene in volume 2 of her stitching her cat suit. Most likely in episode 1 Glynda just combined her semblance with dust in her riding crop, but can be interpreted as magic for later.

But originally.... the possibility of Summer Rose as a maiden and is in hiding (clues watch volume 5 and 9) - Raven came to fetch Summer for a mission I think to seek the summer maiden. Then (raven) attacked and made a fatal wound on the (summer) maiden knowing Summer(Rose) will try to save her, but can't, now the magical power has transferred to Summer (Rose) since the final intimate relation trying to save the maiden. After that she (Summer Rose) became the new summer maiden, now.... is also on the run and hiding, like Raven didn't dare go back home for the sake of their family. Again it depends on Kerry and the new writers at viz media.
i think Glynda is actually the personification of the Relic of Choice, or the Relic of Choice made human, to "hide in plain sight" kind of situation

I feel like if Coco or Velvet was the summer maiden it would have been at least mentioned in the books After the fall or before the dawn, but I would love it if either of them became the summer maiden later in the series.

I have a theory about the Summer Maiden. One that I doubt is what the show is going to go with, but it's still something I've been thinking about.
The Summer Maiden, whoever she is, has already been working with Salem. Before Salem learned about Ozma reincarnating earlier than usual, she was going to send Tyrian and Hazel to Vacuo. She only stopped because of this new info. I always wondered 2 things "why Vacuo next" and "why not at least still send Hazel".
Well, if she already has someone working for her over there it would definitely explain why she prioritized there after Cinder failed to get the the knowledge relic the first time. She wants to make sure her other Maiden doesn't screw up the way Cinder did.
However, she also prioritizes Ozma above everything else because there's one Relic that he made even harder to find and if the Summer Maiden is already on her side, then she could just get the Relic whenever, even if this Maiden is a Bigger screw up than Cinder.
It also seems really weird, to me at least, that Salem only picked one woman to be all the Maidens. You can say it prevents in-fighting all you want, but Cinder has proven that she'll F-up Salem's plans regardless. If Cinder died at any point in the story so far, Salem would be screwed. She'd either need to find someone else, manipulate Emerald hoping she'll be enough, or make deals with preexisting Maidens. Maybe that's what she did at the end of Volume 3 when Cinder got injured?
Also, this is totally something I could see Salem lying about, "Oh, Cinder you're definitely my chosen ONE
Another thing is that Glenda semblance allows her to fix things and the relique destroys also the name is CosmiKing
If the theories of Summer being the previous Summer Maiden and her being dead are confirmed, maybe Ruby would be the current Summer Maiden. She would have forgotten about it because she was much younger at the time and was going through the trauma of losing her mother. Besides, it's very likely that Summer's last thoughts while dying was the daughter she was leaving behind.

Years back if you asked me, I honestly thought the maidens were going to be the RWBY team. Ruby = Spring, Weiss = Winter, Blake = Autumn and Yang = Summer (Or Yang being Spring and Ruby would be Summer)
I've liked the idea of Glinda being related to the relic, or being the relic itself. Plus, she's shown weakness during a news clip during a Yang section in volume 4 when using her power to repair a building. I'm convinced Summer Rose is the Summer maiden.
We have met the summer maiden, but only if you read the novels. She wasn't directly named as the maiden, but she was heavily hinted.
It is not Coco or Velvet. They were not in the know about Salem until Ruby's broadcast. They are clueless of the entire shado war in the books.
It is not Glynda. We were told the maiden was going to rescue CFVY during an early draft of the books. Since CFVY are in Vacuo, the maiden must also be in Vacuo.
All the maidens are naratively related to Team RWBY. As such, the summer maiden is likely related to Blake's story, which means a faunus or related to the faunus storyline.
Thus, the best candidate is Star, Sun's cousin. She was introduced in the epilogue of Before the Dawn and was described to have an uncanny link to the weather. Star would also make sense for Sun trying to denied it in the Beyond short.
If I had to pick someone to be the Summer Maiden, I would pick Theodore and it turning out he's a trans man. Now I understand that it can be viewed as transphobic implying he's "really a woman". That's not my intention and I don't mean it to be that way. That being said, I think it would be interesting that his backstory is that he discovered his identity and transitioned when he already had the maiden powers. Since the only way to lose the powers naturally is to pass away, transitioning wouldn't mean they would just go away.
As a side note, I also would want a character like May Marigold being on the opposite side of the same coin making her valid candidate for the maiden powers as transitioning means she meets the requirement of being a woman to become a Maiden.
I think it would also be a clever twist. It's the Relic of Destruction after all; sounds like something you would want to have some extra reassurance it stays locked up. So what better way than looking for a woman who's the Summer Maiden to open the vault when the truth is that the key is actually a man?
The only reason I would not want this to be the case is if the people Viz hires to write the series is CRWBY. Knowing their track record, I would be worried they might end up doing it poorly like they've done with a number of other things.

I think it’d be a nice plot twist that the Summer Maiden is actually Cinder. That would explain why the Fall Vault is still not found by Cinder and it’d be a nice twist. It would also give them an excuse to go back to Vale.
