    Did you see the new spy shots from South Korea, showing a hatchback version of the EV4?! It looks awesome! I just watched a RUclips video, linked through an article in Inside EV News and it has a bunch of new photos, in addition to the ones you showed here. I have a Rivian R2 reserved and have been considering an EV6 or an EV3. However, if Kia brings the hatchback version of the EV4 to the U.S., and it looks as good as I think it will, I may have a winner! Kia, bring it here and I will give you my money...
    Fantastic channel, BTW! Very thorough and informative. I subscribed immediately!

    What would be important to the success of this car is whether they build it on similar battery technology to the EV5/EV3 or EV6, as there are plenty of slow-charging sedans in Europe ( BMW i4, Citroen e-C4, Volkswagen ID7, Polestar 2) but only the Ioniq 6 in the fast-charging category with a normal price.

    I agree on your assessment that the EV4 looks to be a true sedan rather than a liftback, which for me personally is quite gutting as I move larger objects in my vehicles frequently enough that I simply cannot give up the opening size of a liftback or hatcback. It's a real shame; the EV4 was something that I've been looking forward to since it was announced as (hopefully) an EV6 in a smaller footprint, but with no liftback tailgate it becomes basically a non starter for me. I do hope all the sedan purists and other buyers that don't have my use-case will be very happy with it, and I suppose I'll hold out hope that they'll have a liftback option - but that's one hell of a hedged bet there.

    @TheIoniqGuy Though the panel line you highlighted does seem to indicate a traditional trunk, a liftback frame could be hidden underneath that long rear window. Supporting the notion that the EV4 sedan is a liftback, I found the following quote on autoblog: "it’s a low-slung four-door with a long liftback...a car with traditional sedan proportions but a large cargo area that’s hinged at the roof." Let's hope it's true. And if both a liftback sedan and an EV4 hatchback (a mini-EV6?) come to the US, I'll be eager to test them as potential replacements for my Mk6 VW GTI.

    The EV4 is okay, but I really prefer the utility of a station wagon/hatchback/SUV. I'm impressed by the new Hyundai/Kia lineups but the Ioniq 5 is the one that really intrigues me most, with the EV3 being a close second.

    Yeah, it's basically an Ioniq 6, but with recognizable Kia styling, inside and out. I know some drivers are happy with sedans, but… I much prefer a hatchback, like my LEAF had, and not a trunk, like my Model 3 had.

    Great looking but sadly, a sedan.
    Off topic, I'm in upstate NY and got home in 90F+ heat after an hour on the highway. Plugged in to my home charger (40amp, 9.6kW) and after an hour it crashed! BlueLink told me it stopped charging due to overheating. Plugged it back in this morning and all was fine. Anyone know anything about this?

      That’s the ICCU protecting the car from heat related damage from high current charging when temperatures are high. Same problem that we’ve been complaining about for nearly two years

    At first glance - to my eye, it looks like the EV4 will be a hatch/lift back? The glass extends down too far to allow for even a tiny trunk opening. I am hoping for a hatch/lift back! If you are correct that it has a trunk only - then it is a big *no thank you* from me.

    I do like the size of both the EV3/4. The Hyundai IONIQ 6's interior for the US should not have those wings on the dashboard where the digital side mirrors were supposed to go.

    @TheIoniqGuy If the next generation of Kia/Hyundai EV's do have a redesigned ICCU, that would make an interesting video. My number 1 issue with the E-GMP line has been all the ICCU issues. My number 2 is the lack of true OTA. Where true OTA means no need to go to the dealer for any software updates (Ford, Rivian, Tesla).
    Based on the KiaEV9 forum, it sounds like the EV9 has the same ICCU problems the other E-GMP platform based cars have:
    "The gist of this story is that if your ICCU fails, be prepared to wait a very long time to get it replaced. Our EV9 has been sitting in the dealer service center for 17 days. The Lemon Law in Colorado is 30 days, and I'm pretty sure our EV9 will be sitting at the dealer long enough to trigger the Lemon Law threshold. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to keep the EV9 if we hit the Lemon Law limit."
    "Same boat here.. Car has not worked since Dec 26th. ICCU has been 'ordered' but no timeline on when it could arrive. Dealer heard '2-4 months'. Filed lemon law paperwork and have received a buy back from Kia. Sorry, but I am not waiting 2-4 months to 'maybe' fix the problem - especially on a 78k car that I have only been able to drive 6 days since purchasing on Dec 20th. Lemon Law it and get your money back. My VIN was 20,4xx - so I am going to wait for a bit, see what updates come out, wait for higher VINs and then maybe lease instead of purchase the next time around. It is a shame, as we absolutely loved the car. It checked every box... but being unable to charge at level 1 or level 2 and having to jump start it 7 times - it is just not reliable."
    There is a whole thread of people reporting ICCU failures on the EV9 thread (of course it is Reddit :)

    I dunno, it's a bit the Prius Syndrome: make it sci-fi so everyone knows it's a different type of vehicle. Popular car style advances gradually; if you leap too far, you're just taking a wild guess at where things are going - you disconnect from the curve of style evolution, and it just ends up looking a bit weird. Imho this particular design is borderline.

      ICCU revealed as a charger error. Also you should know that only Hyundai is doing ICCU and mastering it while Tesla can't and BMW is just CCU with only 2 years warranty.

    • @Molishious
      @Molishious 5 месяцев назад

      This is the first Hyundai Kia/ EV that doesn’t appeal to me at all. It’s so similar to the EV6 without the benefit of having a hatch. I think the EV 3 will be a big hit for the right price especially if it comes out with an AWD GT-line version. I doubt the EV 4 will sell well.

    • @ericgregori
      @ericgregori 5 месяцев назад

      @@lONlQ The ICCU recalls is not a charger error. It is a fundamental design flaw that Hyundai/Kia has been punting on for 2 years. Multiple TSBs, a recall, and a class action lawsuit.

      @@Visualhead_Spacer Really? They made that claim with the Ioniq 6 as well, yet with the latest ICCU recall you have to go to the dealer to get the firmware update.
