Nothing hits quite like hearing someone describe the process of picking up, putting down, stalling on, scrapping, reworking, pausing again, and continuing to come back to a story☺️
When she hit 20k, I realized that I’m almost there in my novel. I’m putting an intensely long paragraph into Wordtune, but it’ll take a while because it’s over 280 characters. You have given me motivation to write, and I’m finally at 14,699 words. Edit: Now I’m at 16,500 words! Edit 2: Hit 20k yesterday, and today I’m almost done knitting a blanket!
I hope you all enjoy the vlog!~ 😊✨ I'm hoping to (maybe?) do monthly vlogs for this series, so please let me know if you liked it! A Year In Tokyo: An Illustrated Guide and Memoir ✨ bit.ly/3CjjBTz Support my channel and get bonus content 🌼 www.patreon.com/christyannejones
I hit over 52.000 words in my novel but i'm dealing with a 'middle part is boring to write, i wanna get to the end.' situation. This video gave me some motivation to complete it.
What can be better than a 22 mins video 💛💛🌼 I love love your vlogs ,I wait for them so eagerly they bring me peace 💛 thank you so much. Please take care💛
Thanks for this vlog - it’s very motivating. I’m a teacher, so spend most of my evenings and weekends either marking, planning lessons or looking after my toddler son, so I really need to try to use the rare moments of free time I have efficiently. Recently that’s been listening to podcasts or audiobooks when driving - that’s about the only free time I have! For the last year and a half or so I’ve just felt too tired once I’ve got work done and got the little one to sleep (if I’ve even managed!) I might try some work sprints for myself. If I have half an hour to myself I want to get some writing done. No excuses - I have to make time to write! 🙂
Your vlogs are hands down the best on the freaking internet, Christy. I know I say this on literally every video but man oh man...they're just the greatest! Have a lovely day. Seeing you write is just so exciting!!!!
I’m really glad I’m not the only one who has issues with the big bones of a story!! Prettying it up may never feel perfect but I feel like I’m better at it. It’s so good to hear you talk about the process!
Thank you for pulling back the curtain on what it is like to really try to get words down on paper. The starts, stops, highs and lows. I am just now getting around to working on a novel that I've been putting off for YEARS and this video has made the idea of jumping back in far less stressful.
rain in adelaide for long periods of time is so rare that it makes it all the more special! nothing is better then reading with a cup of tea and the sound of rain in the background xx
I kept nodding my head when you spoke about focusing on the structure of a story before focusing on the language. I am someone who obsesses over language, especially grammar and punctuation. But this isn't story. As a result, I too was in the doldrums for years with a great story concept and a crap plot. Only recently have I shown some humility and decided to focus on structure. I still think that my strength will always lie in language but at least I have learned that if the structure isn't sound, everything will collapse. It's great to see you working on another novel. I enjoyed this video!
Also, hearing you, or any people really, talk about writing a novel gives me an itch to try it as well. It's good that you admit you've sat with your idea for two years before strart writing in earnest, because, woah, that actually sounds realistic. Patience, girl, (and persistence) is what I need to remind myself of. Girl being me.
Writing novels is such a difficult task, especially when you want to publish it. I'm currently working on my first actual novel that I plan to publish in the future and it's much more daunting than the novels I write for my own pleasure/reading. I started the novel by planning it all out on sticky notes so I had a basis for each chapter. When I feel stuck on a certain chapter, I go to a chapter that I instead know well, then it gives me the chance to write more and eventually look back on what I have already written to fix the smaller details. Super fun and frustrating project but it will surely be worth the struggle! I enjoyed watching your video and seeing that I am not alone in procrastinating or struggling to get past certain blocks.
This video and the editing is so beautifully done, and you seem like such a lovely person! This was such a fun video to watch! I'm super glad I found your channel, and I can't wait to watch more videos! Hope you have a lovely day! 💛
Idk how I’ve come across this video but I’m so glad I have. When I was younger it was my dream to be an author. Thankyou for reminding me of this dream, feeling very nostalgic💕. Luckily I am following my other dream career, so not a sob story!
I remember I use to be so excited to come home from school and write whatever story I was working on at that time. In high school I actually managed to plan a trilogy, and finished writing 2/3 of those books! It was a big part of my life, Thankyou for making sure I don’t forget it.
Really love your videos, Christy. The style of your dressing reminds me of many a quiet winter day, and the way you speak is such a cure. As a 20-year-old student, I am also thinking about a novel, and your videos are absolutely inspiring. It feels like you are talking to me face to face in real life.
I just followed you. Your writing routines accidentally drew me in a few days ago. Very cozy words and style 💛🧡 and the casual way you wove your project into the challenges plus mentioning that it feeds off of the vibes of Dorian Grey actually makes me want to behave out-of-character and read an adult fantasy novel, to see what it's about, and with all the work you've put into it. Saw in a video title that you finished it - congratulations! Good luck with the getting-it-out-into-the-world-part 🍀🍀🍀
I just found your account yesterday! I finally think I have the foundation to write my first book! I came up with the original idea in 2021, but I haven't written narratively since 2012 so I've gradually stretched my writing and idea-creating muscles :) Your videos are so relaxing and inspiring and I LOVE your accent :) I can't wait to watch more of your channel as I write my first complete draft!
First of your videos I've watched, the vibe and atmosphere is lovely. When you started making tea at the start, I sat back for a bit and drank some water and it was honestly a lovely chance to breathe in a busy day :)
I find the start of the story is the hardest part for me, because it's the part that's going to pull in the reader. I always seem to know how it ends, but it's figuring out how to get that that's the challenge :)
I just love to feel part of this. That's exactly how we feel just by watching you talk about it. Like talk with a friend about her news and her routine 😻💖
I am only 19 minutes in and I love your personality! I'm writing my novel at the moment. I might do a little blog of my process soon. I've already done a little blog of my favorite books that I love to read. I'll be watching the rest of this and don't worry, I'm like that too. But you do what you love to do.
I’m so happy to have found your page. I am a newbie writer, writing my first novel I haven’t even been able to start my first chapter I can’t get out of outlining 😅. I really think I’m overthinking a lot. But any tips for newbie writers are appreciated!
Beautiful vlog .... Warms the cockles of my heart.... Yes we would love to see this as a series ... Writers all across will wish you well for this inspiring series
I’m coming back to the beginning because I found you most of the way through the process. I’ve just returned to writing after over a decade and the project is one that’s been percolating in my head for quite sometime. It’s been a rough start, but I’m finally underway on the first draft. It’s kind of horror, kind of southern gothic.
I'm so glad that I have found such a lovely youtube channel. I feel so cozy as I watched your video. Besides, today there was some gray clouds and rain. So, it felt cozier :) Thank you for all your effort, I will be watching your other videos too. :)
I recently found your channel from your video about finding an agent :) I can't stop binging your videos since. I submitted a manuscript to agencies a few weeks ago and am hoping for good news - in the meantime I have started another novel that I am super passionate about and your videos have inspired me to take my time with it ❤ I can be impatient so that lesson was needed.
I’m only on my first chapter of my first book and you inspire me to write. I’m at 1619 words right now and I was feeling really down, because I didn’t feel like that was enough for how long I’ve been writing
What a lovely video. I too have decided to write a novel it sounds weird to say but I want to write it. I'm not as successful a writer as you and maybe nothing will come of mine but watching you start this process is inspiring.☺️
Good luck with your novel writing journey! :) I can write first drafts pretty easily, love the process but editing is intimidating. Recently I contacted an editor and am working with her to improve one of my standalone stories :) I am an artist and writer myself, so I am doing my best to share my process and progress on my RUclips as well.
This vlog was so fun! I loved hearing about your novel and your writing process. I'm intrigued!!! Can't wait for the rest of the series (& to read it ;))! :) xx
Love your vlogs! They are always so cozy no matter what you film. Good luck on your teacup project!! And don‘t exhaust yourself. Have been working myself yesterday on a game developing project in the university and now I am soo exhausted but can‘t stop thinking about the project even though I didn’t make any progress… 😅 Anyway… I wish you a stressless writing process ☺️
Hi Christy! New subscriber here. I've just discovered your channel and I'm loving the content so far. This vlog was particularly inspiring, because I struggle with buckling down and writing too--especially with the "big bones" of a story. I love the imagery, the details, the dialogue, but nailing the plot and the characters' motivations is something I have always struggled with. So, you are not alone in that! And I'm glad you've found a way to overcome it. I can't wait to see more from you. Have a lovely day! :)
it's so satisfying to watch the vlog and made my day (the potential sesame seed lemon cake! lol), it is so peaceful video as usual. thanks for the experience, wish you all the best with the new book!
As soon as I saw it I gasped and googled Howl's Moving Castle Calendar and found it! But the first price I saw was on eBay for $300! I want one but not that bad
Loved this! Can’t wait to see more of your writing process with this project! Starting new project is always my favorite thing… finishing them… not so much! Hahaha but this makes me get in the mood of writing so thank you for sharing ☺️
I was in the same position then I decided to write a thriller story. Write-delete-re-write again and again it’s a really big challenge. Because then you first re-write a story your will always think that the lines are not good enough and then it’s really can take the years to finish the book. No matter how hard it was in the beginning.
I know I’m not the person you asked but I find that writing a paragraph then going back and using a thesaurus or a thesaurus for emotions for example is really helpful to getting better vocab !

4:39 well, that 'again' describes my pain and the agony i feel when i have to rewrite or edit everything in a row...
Ooooh that howls moving castle date thingy is adorable. Did it come like that or did you repurpose it with those date/month thingies from elsewhere?
As soon as I saw it I gasped and googled Howl's Moving Castle Calendar and found it! But the first price I saw was on eBay for $300! I want one but not that bad
okay I just saw one that was $65 but it was sold out

oh that sounds good! Thank you so much for the recommendation 💛
Good luck with the new book!
you started writing it on my birthday!!
when we hyperfocus we are sinking to some extent into our subconscious (getting into flow) to pull up everything authentic+magical, we enter the world of magic....trying to do anything menial/mundane is not good for the magic in flow process. i have to carve out much more uninterrupted space to get deep into flow. ;)
excited for this new series!! good luck with your writing :)
Hi! I'm also a writer and I create my own universe, with a chronology and timeline; it's difficult because I write fantasy, and I had to make a map of my world (by photoshop, with my husband). I have so many characters, and it will be a trilogy. But I'm not alone in this big project. Recently I found an illustrator and he is sooo genius. I'm so, so happy, and I hope this project will be grateful for you too. It's a great dream to publish a book, I hope you success too! Good luck, from Canada. :)
I go to writing groups and it seems most of the under 40s are writing fantasy. I don't know why that genre in particular.
@@thursoberwick1948 It's probably one of the most popular genres for younger people as there's lots of imagination and being able to experience entire new worlds. Hi Christy!!! New subscriber here! Excited to binge watch your videos ….
Great work you put in to this. Keep it coming
In love with her from now on
You should make a video on how to get started on a novel.
I usually use the search and replace tool for changing names cuz I change them every month lol. Just click on replace all.
Where is this tool there?
Loved this! I just subscribed! I'm a writer too!!
congratulations on A Year in Tokyo omg!! so happy for you taking steps away from that demonic imposter syndrome thing we all get once in a while😪

thanks for video, please a video of tips for writing novels
This came out on my bday
I think is gonna be a good read
I love writing but I get unmotivated because I can never think of a plot that gets me hooked on the story, or intrigued by the characters. if *anyone* has even the slightest plot idea, general advice or character ideas I'd appreciate it so so much! If I'm given an idea I will make sure to twist it and add things and I would never copy anything directly if you didn't want me to. thanks again!
