Excellent video, thanks so much for sharing with us. I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk(yes a purposed money pit for Chrysler 😡). I was four houses away from coming home and pulling into my driveway, and my upper radiator hose burst(of course at the cheap plastic fitting they use) shooting coolant everywhere in my engine bay. I immediately pulled in and shut the car down. I replaced the complete hose, refilled with coolant and had no leaks on start up. I let it warm up and the heat was working great, and no overheating. Today I went to start it up and the coolant was almost empty in the reservoir. I refilled it. I started it up to back it up to look for leaks under it, and I couldn't find any. Then I looked at my reservoir and the coolant got darker, I checked my oil level and it had dropped below minimum. Three years ago I replaced a leaking oil cooler already( we know that's a pain in the nuts). Could you give me any suggestions to check first? Did I blow the head gasket, crack the block or damage the air cooler I installed? Coupled with the 4WD not engaging I am really starting to hate this Jeep 😡😡 Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated 😊 Jeep should buy this back from me, and end this nightmare they created!! Thanks so much.
wow so glad i watched this video, i want to learn all about vehicle repairing. never knew a engine cooler was even a thing, thought all the cooling was handle by the coolant/radiator.
I really don't think oil cooler are a mechanic necessity but something which modern engineers designed to increase number of parts in a cars that can break and increase after sale profit. A car can cool off using water jackets and radiator system.
Because of vehicle reaching higher temps quicker due to enviro parts such as egr , dpf and else, oil cooler is just another way to cool engine quicker not relying solely on coolant
Wow, great video for sure, I have developed oil leaks with my oil cooler and unfortunately, a slow coolant leak that I can’t seem to find, and brown discoloration a little bit at the bottom of the coolant over flow tank. I hope I can figure this out. I think I’ll do a leak down test on the coolant system. Hopefully I’ll get an answer.🙏🏻✝️
I found that coolant was mixed with oil in my Jetta 1.6TDI, seems like a faulty oil cooler. How can i clean the coolant system from the oil (which become like a grease after it has mixed with the oil).
Thanks, I have a Pacifica with the failing plastic oil cooler. My question is, how do I know the extent of damage. The engine is at 95K ...and I believe should have many more miles. But shop is saying to replace engine, just from the block test.
Greetings from NZ. When did the CDR wrangler have plastic coolers? I can see my coolers have very slow leaks? 2008 VM 2.8 A428 motor. They look aluminum from the outside?
@@Top5AutoRepairs thanks for the reply engine seems hot but the temperature gauge remains at 93 c max uk before fan kicks in which is pretty standard .thanks again
Can coolant get to the oil because of bad oil cooler ? Or only oil can get to the coolant ? My volvo has coolant in the oil dipstick but I don't see oil in the coolant.

Hey man, how are you? I have 2013 nissan latio1.2cc engin e. Its engine has been overheating quite some time now. Engine check light is on. I have replaced the thermostat and water pump. The cooler cap is okay. Now its still overheating. I am confused now. Then i saw this video. But i checked the oil cooler it has no signs of leak. Only leak was on transmistion pan. What should i do? Also the antifreeze fan has little bit of wobble. I am currently thinking about replacing the fan.
Also i thought about replacing the head gasket but the antifreeze is clean no sign of mixture or anything. The radiator fan is little bit wobbly due to a crash. It works sometimes. Not mostly
I just discovered milky oil in my coolant reservoir today but there was a small amount discovered about 6 months ago and 5000 miles. Car runs great and sounds good though. Got any ideas what's going on?
Yes I drive a mercedes jeep Had oil leaking from my car and having to top up my oil every 2 weeks took it to the mechanic 2 days ago to have it changed but took a while to go to the mechanic because one mechanic said i can still drive it did not realise it can cause damage to your car smh
I have a cayenne S 2016(twin turbo v6) have coolant smell, slow loss of coolant, oil in coolant but no coolant in oil. This has been going on for the past 3 months, also the oil temperature is higher than normal but not overheating, the coolant is at a perfect 200 degrees and have a oil leak. car runs perfect, no white smoke. 80k miles. Is it more likely the oil cooler or something worse like a head gasket or block?
Just noticing the same with my 2006 cayenne S. Did you get to the bottom of it? Have ordered a new oil cooler myself hoping it is that and not something more sinister.

Best to replace the whole engine oil cooler
