Greetings from Switzerland! Here the Helvetia 20 Franc is affectionately called the "Vreneli", something like "Little Verena" as Verena was the first name of the lady who modeled for the image. Except for some rare years that carry a hefty collector's premium, random years are relatively cheap compared to modern fractional coins that tend to carry high premiums. Needless to say, Vreneli's and equally plentiful French 20 Franc "Roosters" are the staple of my modest gold stack.
I have 1oz maple coins and other modern gold coins as well as bullion However, I'm going gold Swiss Francs, Italian Lira, and Austrian Ducats or plain old bullion for the cheapest gold content ...gold is gold....God's gold! We just put the stamp on it Done with buffalos, Maples, Phil's.....I stay away from AGE because they are ridiculously priced.
@@SilverDragons47 Calling this coin "Helvetia" is simply incorrect. It's a "Vreneli," even if that's hard to pronounce in English. There is a Helvetia gold coin, but that was the predecessor of the "Vreneli."
Lately under and over spot changes a greatly, on a near daily bases. I was looking at buying some platinum on the day the metals fell so much, but I found out it is harder to find at the big retailers and they were charging WAY OVER spot. Some of the cheaper items on eBay were a little sketchy to me. Ended up not getting any.
Just think: Exactly two years ago, Gold was at 1,635.00 an Ounce. Fast forward to today (4-12-22) and the cost of a Gold Helvetia to buy is almost at the 400.00 mark. Help!
Fascinating! On a separate note, my Vreneli coin has a somewhat light “copper” tint to it as compared to yours, which looks more yellow. Perhaps due to the mint and year of production. Love the design anyway! :)
We as Silver Stackers are a very diverse group!! I think that is one of the best parts!!!! Just as in life itself. Diversity is key!! How boring would it be if every single person was the same!! Same color, weight, height, and thought process! A horrible existence!! So we are a very Diverse group!!
I just bought a Swiss Helvetia twenty frank gold coin on ebay, I should get in in about a week. I'm super excited! The Swiss miss gold coin wow and so affordable. I didn't have to wait months to save up for it, I happened to have the money now so I went ahead and bought it. Hopefully it will be the first of many in a collection.
Greets from Germany. That is NOT a "Helvetia"! It is called a "Vreneli"! Vreneli's replaced the "Helvetia" in 1897!! "Helvetia's" were minted from 1883 thru 1896. "Vreneli's" 20 Franc gold have been minted from 1897 up until Today with Dates missing in between. From 1911 thru 1922 the 10 franc "Vreneli" was introduced. 5000 examples of the 100 franc Vreneli were minted in 1925. First of All, "Helvetia" is the Latin Name for Switzerland. The Old Swiss Confederacy of the early modern period was often called Helvetia or Republica Helvetiorum ("Republic of the Helvetians") in learned humanist Latin The Latin name is ultimately derived from the name of the Helvetii, the Gaulish tribe living on the Swiss plateau in the Roman era. The allegory Helvetia makes her appearance in 1672. The official Latin name Confoederatio Helvetica was introduced gradually after the formation of the federal state in 1848. It appears on coins of the Swiss franc from 1879, and was inscribed on the Federal Palace in 1902. It was used in the official seal from 1948. The abbreviation CH was first introduced in 1909, as international vehicle registration code. So now you see that the first 20 Franc Gold Coin from "Helvetia" - Switzerland was called the Helvetia, minted from 1883 thru 1896! In 1897 the "Vreneli" replaced the "Helvetia". 1897 was a Transition Year for the Swiss 20 Franc Gold Coin. In 1911 thru 1922 the 10 Franc "Vreneli" was introduced. In 1925 a 100 Franc Gold "Vreneli" was minted in a total of 5000 pieces, so finding one might mean needing to sell your Family! 😁 I hope this has cleared up the Fact that "Vreneli's" are NOT "Helvetia's"! 🤨
I love your videos and input on this wonderful hobby and retirement plan supplement. But dude, what's up with the silver stacking gang signs that you do with your hands. Lol. Are they supposed to replicate the Dragon logo? Keep up the good work my friend. I'll keep watching even with the hand spasms. Hahahahaha
Hi Silver dragons i have 2 x 1935 Vrenelis as well as a load of silver swiss 5 franc coins which i am considering selling as i wish to place the money into my other hobby which is watches.. any suggestions on best place to advertise ?
Wonderful coin piece, one of my favorite. My all time favorite ones are the 1 ducat and 20 crown of Austria, gorgeous coins with the double headed eagle. The ducats from 1915 are all re-strikes, before that date they are circulated. Love your video man, greetings from Albania.
I almost picked up a few of these until i found out that no LCS will actually buy these back. Lots of stories regarding these being very hard to sell back if the time arises
Those particular coins aren't legal tender anymore. And they were used as currency. The only real key date is either 1926 or 1927. I can't recall which.
Too bad e-bay did away with their e-bucks program nearly 2 years ago. Are you saying that you got the coin under spot because of your e-bucks discount? If not then you really need to tell me how?
Try 10 or 20 Corona Austro-Hungarian coin. Along with French and Swiss franks, they are most usual historical gold coins here. Common years are always sold at gold spot prices and Austrian Mint is still making other A-H coins as bullions. You probably know this, just saying, because I consider Philharmonikers ugly as hell, including gold version.
I can see why you might be adding some Gold to your stack, with the G/S ratio being almost 95 to 1. WOW! This has got to be some kind of screw-up. Might have something to do with the “Markets” turmoil, and investors moving into Gold from stocks. I’m not sure if I’m pulling for Silver Spot to drop to $12 per ounce, or blast off to $45 an ounce?? Only interested in buying if spot stays below $18.
O/T, but what kind or kinds of silver would you recommend a new stacker with $150-$200 buy? I have some silver as gifts, but I've never bought any before. Thank you.
@@SilverDragons47 Thank you! To get the best price online, most places want you to pay with a bank wire or a check, which is a little intimidating when you have never bought something online like that. Could you make a video about paying for silver and what that process all entails?
i really like them, but am detered because neither the weight, nor purity is marked. so, even with a scale, the potential buyer would have to already know they're 90%, or take your word for it.
BTW... Saying "bullion coins" is a redundant term and a term which is a conflict in terms. Some definitions of bullion state it to be UNCOINED metals (like an ingot). So one can't have an uncoined coin. Second, calling it a bullion coin is redundant. The essence of bullion is metal valued by 1) weight 2) purity of the metal. Coins may also have these attributes if made of silver, gold, pt, or copper, but coins also have the official fiat declared value (please exclude numismatic value). Here's the issue... when one describes a gold or silver coin.....we already know weight and purity of the gold/silver coin speaks to the value of the coin. We don't need to reconfirm these obvious value points. Bullion differs from gold/silver coins via the fiat stamp (past or current) declaration

Vreneli ❤
