That feature with the pipe in the bumper is brilliant. Having the bonnet flip up and toss the pedestrian over the top of the car is a great idea for protecting the bodywork 😂👍

I had a mate with a lowered Capri. His drive home was through Richmond Park, those who know these roads know that there are small posts allong the road edges. One night he veered off road and ripped his underside to pieces on the posts.

The way the compressed air jet draws the air out of the cooling system is pretty much the same way the injectors on a steam engine work. Very informative bit of video there, for which many thanks - as anyone who's ever had to bleed a recalcitrant cooling system, those vacuum systems are a godsend.
Chris you are correct, it is indeed a venuri and uses the venturi effect (otherwise known as Bernoulli's principle) to create a low pressure at the venturi. At least that's the way I remember it.
Well done its a big project and lots more to do but you guys inspired me to buy my first salvage motor so here goes 🙏🙏

Even my mother likes you (She is 75 this year and she doesn't know anything about cars, couldn't tell the difference between a Ford Capri and a Lexus and has also failed her test twice. The first time, she nearly knocked a cyclist off his bike and the second time, nearly ran someone over on a Zebra Crossing)! 😂
Coolant in the vehicle: G12 purple or G13 which can be purple or green. I'm guessing the lads have put G13 in there. I can see a lot of people getting overheated 'cos green coolant has gone in! G13 is the later variation on VAG's glycerine coolant. Also distilled water is better for dilution than deionised due to increased purity

Yes, that's a stat for the DSG oil cooler. BTW when they fail, VAG engines never get up to temperature as the main engine thermostat is 'short circuited'.

I have done a coolant refill on a 2017 bmw 320i (needed new rads putting on it) which is said can only be done with a vacuum pump. it was a massive pain in the arse as i dont have one (or a compressor), i tried multiple times, raising up the corner where the tank is etc, but in the end the air lock was only occurring at the pump itself, and a half turn of the pully in the opposite direction was enough to clear it and it ran like a dream and worked perfectly after. so it is possible without the kit, but you pay for it in extra time and paracetamol (for the headaches lol).

Correct Chris, Venturi effect. If a fire fighter wants to add foam concentrate (the old way), he/she would add an in-line eductor into the hydrant supplied fire hose, drop in a pick-up tube into the concentrate barrel and the force of the water running past the eductor creates a vacuum in the pick-up hose and proportions the right concentrate to create finished foam.

The 'Venturi affect' was explained to me whilst studying Engineering thus: Mountaineers know not to stand in the entrance of a cave during high winds because the pressure differential between the outside and inside of the cave creates a vacuum. This will suck you out of the cave, never to be seen again.
