  • Grow your woodworking business with wedding "smalls"! You asked for it so here it is. The average cost of a wedding right now is $30,000 with over $2000 of that being spent on decor and rentals. There is a ton of money to be made by renting or selling wedding decor... and if you're not interested in that... these are great high-profit items for any woodworking business!
Let's break down some more builds and I'll also show you step-by-step how to make 3 decorative lanterns using only 1 fence picket!
Often, smaller items are looked over by new builders looking to make a name for themselves because they are looking for "that one build" that they can sell for a ton of money. They aren't considering the cost of the build and the time spent making it. Ultimately any business comes down to profit margins. I'll give you a few examples of how selling items that anyone can afford can generate crazy sales with minimal cost of goods sold!
Sometimes we overthink things when the most profitable items we are looking past. Let's change that.

Would u be able to help me identify some wood that I have in my barn? It's a little over 100 years old. It was leftover from my house that my great grandfather used to build the house I live in now.
I believe it was used for the floor joist.
      2×8/12'
      2×10/12'
They are reddish brown in color.
I wish youtube would let us post pictures in the comments.

I picked my mom up from work yesterday and she told me she wanted me to make something cheap yet beautiful out of fence pickets. I said I follow a guy on RUclips that has a bunch of crafts from fence pickets.. Matthew Peech. She pulls up the video and it is your planter boxes lol. This is my 20th year as a wedding DJ. I've seen all the trends. One of the most enduring is the rustic decorations. The log slab centerpieces. The old glass pane door, white washed, with the seating chart written or attached to it (one table per pane). The directional signs. Take your ring box but narrower and instead of boring a hole put a band saw blade slit in one end. Then put a rectangle of card stock with the guest's name and table number in the slot. Instant card holder from a 1" branch that's ½" high. Easy. Wooden crates turned sideways on the desert table. I even saw a 2'X3' board with dowels sticking straight out. Then they hung 4-5 donuts on each dowel and put it on the dessert table. Hysterical. So many options. Thanks Matthew.

Excellent timing that I found this video and I am not lying when I said to her, "sure, no problem", that YOU were the fist resource that came into my mind for how to put it together. This video did not disappoint, thank you. Take care and have a good one, Adios!👊

Another way to make the colored jars is to put some medium to fine sand blasting media inside of them and shake it up real good to put some texture on the inside of the jar. Clean the jar out. Pour some chalk paint of whatever color you want inside and roll it around until it's coated, pour out the excess. The texture from the sandblasting media will cause the paint to be matte and since it's inside the jar, it makes it more durable and cleaning easier. I used to take cheap glass vases and do this to them and sell them.

For the candle holders, if using real candles, you might want the top open. Seems like it'd be a fire hazzard if not open. You could easily use a medium sized hole saw to drill out a hole in the top.
If using LED candles then you could leave as-is.

The ones he showed in the pictures looked even simpler than the ones he built. Like just essentially a bunch of "sticks" all suck together probably with just a bit of glue and brad nails. They appear to just be a square piece of wood cut into many pieces and build a basic little box with butt joints. Even simpler than the design he made.

Using your theory of putting personal spins in stuff, ill use the info you gave as well and combine it.
Use the corner brackets from the tissue box video to cover the top end butt joints on the lanterns. Would look BADASS, plus cover any wierd little gaps that may be there from the jigsaw

Of all the videos where you mention the importance of staging / decorating the item - how about making a video on the process of staging or adding plants/flowers to the planters, etc?

Can also do woodburning on it. I use these designs and do custom woodburning on each piece.

Ok I know it was for wedding rings, but since my grand baby just lost her first tooth I thought of a tooth fairy box right away.

@@MatthewPeechWoodworking I don’t have the room for working on stuff right now, but it doesn’t keep me from enjoying videos and imagining. I was thinking on it even more and thought if a keepsake box that can be passed down to the child and could be used for grand children. Something like the tooth fairy box, babies first haircut for clipping of hair. And big enough for maybe first report card and all the firsts type thing. Then a treasure chest or something like that to keep all the smaller boxes in. Kind of like a baby book that people actually will fill up. Also maybe even put a date book in the keepsake box for writing the dates down when it happens. This way when pictures have been damaged in storage you don’t look at a picture of your son for 25 years thinking it is a picture of your daughter only to have her say Mother it says right there baby boy. Who looks at pictures with a magnifying glass anyways. Not that I ever did that.

Another awesome video. Love the idea of rentals but I have no place to store anything. I build and sell asap. My shop is 200 sq ft. I have to assemble everything outside.

Yes, the rental business is not for everyone. These items would still work for build and sell asap.
