When I fit some Tannus tires on my one bike as a test, I left them outside in the sun for a while to get them some flex and it helped a ton. I tried hot water but keeping the water hot enough, for x minutes was a pain, but probably also a technique. It was also summer, so I'm guessing in the winter you'd be hosed. I really do love the idea of no chance of flats ever, but the tires ride rough and are slower, come on bike industry there's a market for this if done right!
Before riding these Rubberrings with "comfort holes" in it, I'd go with the Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires if there is such situations of "you must not get a flat under any circumstances".
Commuting all year with bike 50km each workingday and a week ago i got one of those U form doublespike nail into the backwheel. Tat mofo got through my schwalbe tires like through molten butter. So id love to see working, save and bearable tubeless tires.
rubber tires like that need to be made for specific rider weights. They're probably made so that everyone can use them so they can likely support 250+ lbs... but if you only weigh 160 it's gonna be harsh. More options with softer compounds would be nice but that increases production/RnD cost significantly. Maybe companies could focus on a specific weight to support instead? idk.
they're also not broken in, would take a week of riding for the rubber to break in. Who knows, maybe they soften up and grip up after a bit of time? Definitely steel/alu only, lol.

Interesting concept, I do think soaking in a bowl of hot water, and some tyre soap stuff that's used for fitting car tyres might of made the tyre fitting easier. I like the product testing stuff.👍
I'm confident that after many hours of outdoor use, exposed to heat/elements, that they will surely begin to soften. Similar to new shoes, you must break them in before they are optimal comfort.

omg i had those tires. installed them on my ebike as i use it to commute to and from work and can't afford the time to change a flat en route. they're terrible!! YES they DO feel like they wanna roll out from under the wheel while cornering. But worse, that sensation happens when you're just going straight if you're doing speeds over 18mph. 25+mph causes the entire front of my bike to shimmy. terrifying. switched back to tubed tires, hadn't had that issue since, no roll, no shimmy at any speed.
That is scary that you actually used them. They should give you your money back. Scam. Anyone with knowledge of bikes knows this is a bad idea, the seller is duping those who are unaware. (the appeal of a flat proof tire is real)
Newb question Just bought my first bike carerra gryphon it's got 700 28c wheels, can I put wider wheels on it as I want to go off road with wider tyres
I've seen these or similar on bike share bikes when I went to China. So I assume the main application is the cheapest, minimum bar usability that never punctures, making the bike share service as cheap as possible to run since you'll never need to service a bike tyre until it literally disintegrates. And then just sell surplus to consumers probably at a massive mark-up.
In over a hundred years, no one has invented a reasonable alternative to the pneumatic tire. (I’m in NYC, hence my American spelling.) It’s quite arrogant for someone to think they can do it. Punctures are annoying, but the trade off is that if a pneumatic tire were puncture proof, it would be too heavy to ride. And here is what happens when you make a non-pneumatic tire.
Use a screwdriver through the holes to help pull it on and then seat the tyre. I work at a bike shop we have to put 10” versions of these on e scooters
If they were made if a graduated compound that was firm on the inside (for holding the frame securely), but became softer around the ‘comfort holes’ (for comfort) they would probably be much better. I’m sure it’s technically possible to laminate two or three compounds together.
Got this great idea...I call it a 'pneumatic tire (tyre)' that has a bladder inside the tire that holds air pressure at a multiple of atmospheric pressure. The tire (tyre) conforms to irregularities when in motion, and gives the rider a much smoother ride than with solid rubber tires (tyres). Nah...it'll never sell...
I think would be really hard to keep the air on the inside, youshould really try to invent a magic fluid that can seal leaks, that would really be genious
Heat the tires up. Hair drying. high heat, it will help you fix them to the rims, just like a pulley belt ,heating them up makes them easier to stretch and flex. when they cool down, they will shrink again locking them into the rims
I know you guys in the Europe do not know what the sun is but here in the US we would set these tires in the sun for an hour and they would then be much more easy to install
you had to heat them up them in the microwave for about 15 minutes before installing. Not saying, they are great, but it would have avoided the blisters :-)

What about for hardcore urban commuting?

Are you using tubeless wheels and tyres?
Wife went back to tubes.
Tubed tires with tough puncture tape (like flexible thick plastic) works well.
You could try making the holes larger with a drill bit, that would make the wheel lighter and more flexible.
I've seen a lot of them on rental bikes and community shared bikes, they are also used by those who ride long distances in extremely remote areas.
